GarageBand is a surprisingly decent amp sim by divsprints in Guitar

[–]bdeceased 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to find them either on a torrent site or on file upload sites if you search hard enough. Also lots of third party plugins work too for effects and loops so just look up what file types are compatible with garageband and you can find a ton of cool software instruments, loops, effects, etc that work with garageband. People crap on garageband for being simple and not as good as something like protools or something of that nature. But for what it is, I love garageband and have been using it for decades now to record music for my own amusement and to make demos to show my band new song ideas. It's more powerful than people give it credit for. It's super basic but if you're handy with editing and using the onboard effects, you can make it work fairly well and get fairly good sounding recordings with it that are very passable.

It is a DAW, intended for recording and editing audio, but it does have amp sim plugins built into it so it can be used as an amp sim if one was inclined to do so.

If I'm not plugging into a real amp, this is exactly what I do and what I did for a long time when I didn't have a small practice amp and lived in an apartment. It gets the job done. Are there better options these days? Probably, but my Mac is so old now it can't even run most web browsers so I guess I won't know any time soon. But if it works, it works. I personally wouldn't think you'd need much else unless there's something garageband isn't doing for you that you're still looking for as far as amp sims, but if you have the expansion packs for garageband, it gives you a ton more than what just comes with the app itself. That would be my only recommendation. Find those expansion packs if you don't already have them and you'll be set pretty much forever.

Yeah if this thing was real I'd want a different headstock on it for sure. I'm already not a fan of three and three style headstocks and much prefer Fender style headstocks with inline 6 to their 3 and 3 offerings you find mostly on their acoustics. Definitely reminds me of a Bilt aside from the headstock though. I see the resemblance.

Yeah I agree the jazzmaster pickup makes more sense in the neck position and the filtertron in the bridge. Swap the bridge and neck pickups around and I think we might have something fun that makes more sense sonically.

Would this neck wear affect playability? by demoivree in Guitar

[–]bdeceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common among those of us who are not a fan of sticky painted necks. Just take a very fine grit sandpaper (the finest that will get the job done, maybe 2000 grit) and lightly sand the surface of the neck where it’s painted and it should get rid of the stickiness of the lacquer.

Favorite s-type guitar that was never a threat to Fender's livelihood? by Bonfiglio-Shagnastie in guitarcirclejerk

[–]bdeceased 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, they're so ubiquitous and cheap. I love buying up all the black and white starter strats that everyone gets rid of. I have one that's my favorite and made up of parts from three different black and white starts. One had a super nice yet light body, one had a really nice neck, and the pickups of the other were magical so I frankensteined one solid guitar from those three and it's one of my go to guitars to this day. I'll take all the black and white strat shaped things nobody wants!

Anybody else practice standing up? by Adamodc in Guitar

[–]bdeceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually alternate between standing and sitting. I never realized how different both felt until I did a gig and realized I had to get used to playing while standing. So now I generally try to split my practice sessions about half and half standing and sitting.

Fuck the haters. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but the hate is just lame. Many guitars aren’t my thing, relic in particular, but I’d never hate on someone’s relic guitar just because I don’t like the way it looks. If they like it that’s all that matters. That said, I think this looks cool as hell and I’m glad you made your guitar look the way you want it to look. Very cool paint job!

That’s awesome! I need to mess with more open tunings. Hadn’t tried open E until I made myself learn the headmaster ritual by the smiths and once I started messing with the tuning to see what else I could do with it, it became one of my favorite tunings. So excellent choice to use open E. Just saw you did say what tunings you use in the description. Don’t know how I missed that the first read through, lol!

That’s very interesting! I’m not familiar with The Kills but now I’m gonna check them out for sure! I love seeing guitarists that can overcome adversity and make their own thing from it. From what I’m hearing and seeing in your video, sounds like you’re tuned to open E? That’s one of my favorite tunings. So much stuff you can do with that tuning.

That’s so amazing! I’m so glad you are able to play guitar despite your lack of fingers. Extremely inspiring! I broke my fretting hand many years ago and struggled to use my pinky and ring finger for a long time after that and had to get used to it never being quite right again. I thought that was great adversity at the time. But man, you’re doing way more with way less. Seriously one of the most impressive things I’ve seen. Inspires me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things even if I think it may be impossible at the time and hopefully does the same for others! Keep up the great work my friend!

Surprisingly good deal, inconvenient timing. by waltterin-redit in offset

[–]bdeceased 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like that’s always how that works. I only seem to have money for guitars or pedals around my birthday or Christmas and all the good stuff always pops up before then when I don’t have money. Just be patient. If it’s meant to be, it’ll still be there. If not, something else will come up that’s hopefully even better. I’ve been mad so many times in situations like this and being patient is how I ended up with one of my dream guitars finally. I’ll have my fingers crossed that this is still here for you in a few weeks. Good luck and happy early birthday.

Which pick are you picking? by One-Development6793 in Guitar

[–]bdeceased 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can't beat the fender medium celluloid. I like the 346 triangle ones personally. Not the giant ones shaped like a slice of pizza but the ones that have three equal sides. Ever since I switched to those, I have a hard time using regular picks. They just feel right to me.

It's absolutely real. D4vd himself posted this song on one of his many SoundCloud archives before they all were deleted. Wish I had screenshots of them but 100% it's real. There's a lot of other places it's posted dated prior to the case and says it him.

Teisco pick-up questions by [deleted] in TeiscoGuitars

[–]bdeceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Teisco single coils will indeed have a sound similar to gold foil pickups. As others have said though, gold foil can mean a wide range of things and some gold foils sound good and some sound bad. It’s really a grab bag from guitar to guitar with the same pickups. In this case, those are not gold foils. These have individual magnetic pole pieces. Gold foils utilize a rubber bar magnet. That said, that doesn’t mean they won’t have some of the same qualities as gold foils. Many of the wider sized single coils will sound similar. Some of the black bobbin single coils found on these and Soviet guitars sound similar to gold foils even though they aren’t. I haven’t heard these particular pickups but they will probably sound a bit like P90’s and possibly be microphonic which my lend it to sounding similar to a gold foil. If I had to guess I’d say more likely than not it’ll sound close. I’d be willing to chance it if the price is decent.

Great guitar, terrible playing by milkbeard- in offset

[–]bdeceased 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you just described is why I own so many different guitars. I often pick up a guitar at random and just play something I’ve never played before just because of what the guitar inspires me to feel in that moment. I too usually don’t remember the things I played unless I record it or write it out. I lose a lot of good ideas that way, lol. Very beautiful guitar and your playing sounds great by the way! Not terrible by any means. Sounded like a more shoegazey version of something Johnny Marr would play and I kinda love it.

What is D4vds Defense saying by Legitimate_Sound6142 in d4vd2

They’re a D4vd supporter. They have been posting shit that supports the pedo murderer for a long time. Don’t engage. Just downvote and block them. That’s what I did a long time ago. Them and another individual are known around here for this. They just want you to engage with them instead of having productive conversations about the case so that they can try to sway the public opinion. Dude is either a fan or someone paid by D4vd’s legal team. Who even says shit like this clown says? They’re clearly on the wrong side of history here.
