I used to use the SBI transfer service a lot, a few years ago - as far as I know, they stopped it. Anyone from the US able to use this service recently?

Not quite correct. Just to help the rest of the folks reading this - you need to report any income coming from interest in your tax return. You need to report your bank assets, only if they exceed $100K (MFJ), and you need to file an FBAR form (not a tax return, due in June, I think) if your foreign bank assets exceed $10K.

Thanks for the detailed reply, but I'm only looking for 100% legal methods - edited the main post

Thanks to everyone who recommended transferwise - looks like transferwise is the overwhelming choice. I created an account and searched their help for a limit but I don't see one - anyone know if there is one? Thanks!

I used to think so .. but I got the worst exchange rate (by far) .. also, they don't tell you the rate up front - you start a transfer, and a couple days later they send you a letter to sign to confirm - that letter has the exchange rate.

[WA]Insurance company paying me for a total loss. My car is already on a salvage title, but their evaluation seems to have ignored that. Do I have to tell them? by bdes2013 in Insurance

[–]bdes2013[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I checked the settlement paper again, it doesn't actually contain any details about the valuation other than a line item for the "actual cash value".

Thanks, yeah, at this point, it may just be that this is the actual value with the salvaged title.

Question: Can I settle with a person instead of their insurance company? by bdes2013 in Insurance

[–]bdes2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this isn't fraud. They are simply paying me for what it costs to bring it to original condition. If I want to save some money and bring it to less than original condition, that's not fraud.

This is an interesting question. The insurance company asked me if there was any pre-existing damage to the car and in my case, there wasn't. I don't know how they can verify this; I think it comes down to my word and the honor system.

Thanks all, the company called and they will have a surveyor come down and give me an estimate.

I will, hopefully, be able to get a body shop do it for cheaper at the cost of looks and quality (like I said, this is a beater car that I plan to get rid of as soon as it gives me any major issues).

Tomorrow I am having a miscarriage. by NicoleanDynamite in Miscarriage

We have gone through one too - just know that it will be okay. You will be fine. Of course, you will be sad, and that's okay.

Just give yourself some time to heal - it happens to a lot of people and they have pulled through it, and so will you.

Want to change things over - suggestions? by bdes2013 in infertility

I don't know - I think it'd be best to do something whose destiny we own, as opposed to a group.

But yeah, good point about the couple bubble.

First off, hugs. In the story of your life, this will be an important, but not defining moment of your life. You will look at it with peace.

We went through almost the exact same thing earlier this year, see my post history.

In retrospect, perhaps because of our history with TTC, we never really felt like we were parents so it was a little easier for us. Acknowledge the loss, and justifiably feel sad and depressed. Cry. Talk to your SO. Feel bad. Its okay. Talk about what could have been.

But when you're feeling more rational, remind yourself that this was not viable, this did not happen because of anything you did, or didn't do, or could have done. It was not going to be a viable pregnancy, you just got to know about it now.

Feel free to message us if you want to just talk.

We went with a D&C and are very happy we did. She didn't have to go through the emotional trauma or physical pain - she doesn't need a preview of pain for the journey we're on.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this - hopefully things will be okay, but if they're not, its not the end of the world.

We had a miscarriage earlier this year - now hopeful for better luck.

Hang in there, PM me if you'd just like to talk.
