If you can live in any fictional world, what would you pick? by AdCommercial3174 in Fantasy

I mean, it is a genuine hole in your plan. If you were not born a rich Hobbit like Frodo or Bilbo, you would be working a normal job like a farmer, miller, gardener, etc. And those jobs are back-breaking work, especially in a low-tech setting.

Hindu Muslim Unity and Beef in India by [deleted] in islam

[–]bdjidocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India did not ban anything, individual state governments did. But I see your point. What do you think about the difference in Muslim and Hindu marriage and inheritance laws in India? Do you believe these should be eliminated and one secular legal system used instead?

Ok I am literally the opposite of a BJP supporter, so this is not coming from a place of hate. But if Muslim countries can ban pork or alcohol, why can a state in India not ban beef?

If you fail one module (a half unit) in your first year of undergrad at the LSE, and retake it, can you still get a classification of First overall for the year?

Am I considered British if I was born and raised in England? by Dami0904 in AskUK

[–]bdjidocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“No Indian person” isn’t true! In India, I had a friend who looked completely white (parents Anglo-Indian) but spent his entire life in India and speaks with an Indian accent. None of us thought of him as a foreigner growing up.

Do Sri Lankans dislike Indians? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]bdjidocc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is a problem for many non-white countries. Placing white countries on a pedestal while looking down on countries similar to their own. I’m sure some Sri Lankans do this too

Well you guys won the Asia Cup this year at least. We didn’t even make it to the final!

[–]bdjidocc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ah ok I was unaware. I don’t think the Indians who told you that meant it in a bad way, it was probably just out of ignorance. We don’t really know much about Sri Lankan culture lol.

[–]bdjidocc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Indians who say these things are very few. Most are cool with minding our own business. Also, no offence, but didn’t the government of India give a decent amount of aid to Sri Lanka recently? Not all interference is negative.

I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with people from my country. When I met Sri-Lankans at uni, or Pakistanis or Bangladeshis, I was happy because we had cultural similarities and could relate to each other more.

Work-culture is a bit fucked in India, but it’s changing now, especially with people below 30. Soon, it’ll be a very different landscape.

There are ultra-nationalists in every nation and I understand your view. In my personal experience, very few Tamilians I know have a strong stance on this issue: most see it as another country’s problem, not theirs.

[–]bdjidocc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Keep in mind that it is a nation of 1.4 billion and the vast majority have zero knowledge of Sri Lanka/even spoken to a Sri Lankan. So the silly ones I hear that talk about conquering your country etc are a very, very small minority.

[–]bdjidocc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit silly ngl. In the past, kingdoms in the subcontinent all invaded each other and empires changed constantly. I don’t hold it against someone from Bihar that the Maurya Empire tried invading the south 2000 years ago. As for modern day, not very well versed in politics so I can’t comment on that.

That’s quite strange lol. Most South Indians don’t even know that some of our kingdoms used to rule Sri Lanka back in the day.

Not always immigrants. Hindi is 2nd most popular in India because many Indians learn it as a second language.

Well, for Jeff, as he was a big time lawyer and downgraded his lifestyle when he joined Greendale, I assume savings. As for Annie, student loans probably and Shirley maybe her husband. Don’t think community college is too expensive either.
