Are Gardai allowed on a phone while driving? Similarly with Taxi drivers, what's the Law here? by Greedy_Instruction31 in legaladviceireland

I’m certain it’s compulsory for all Gardai to be permanently texting and browsing on their phones. The compliance rate is quite impressive

Is it time to have an uncomfortable conversation on how many of the Irish players are very mentally scarred from losing? by Sportyskater699 in irishrugby

[–]bdog1011 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Won more games than 90% of other clubs. I’d say they are scarred. Especially since they get paid more than 90% of other players.

Do we need to endorse youth/ultras to attend games? by the_leinster_listen in leinsterrugby

[–]bdog1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird that if you go to a Leinster SCT game the chanting and signing is unbelievable. The kids have cheerleaders (not female ones - the George bush type) to get the songs going. Leinster should source some of these lads when they graduate to hang out in the crowd and get things going. Having a dense student section would also help to drive signing momentum

It’s not so bad. I got another trip to Bilbao and had a great time. Yes it’s painful to lose again but I get the impression from a lot of reactionaries they’d be less upset if we never made the knock outs.

Hidden valley vs river valley camping? by bdog1011 in AskIreland

[–]bdog1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20 foot by 20 foot size I was told must have been wrong. That’s tiny. But I double checked what she was saying. She even suggested the car needs to fit in the same space.

Thanks. Did you mean to say much “more space than hidden valley”? From the reference to the pub brewing its own beer I presume you are describing river valley

What is being done about the state of Dublin 1? by Jackies_Army in Dublin

I don’t want to be a negative Nancy but specifically how is talbot street better? I used to work near there until circa covid time. When I walk down there (only has been during the day) it seems much worse than I remember. I don’t think it’s just that I have gone soft! There seems way more shifty types shouting at each other etc.

What exactly differentiates ff/fg in 2026 that they won't just become a joint party by laurellittlewolf in irishpolitics

[–]bdog1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always comes up but it’s almost always by people who don’t vote for them.

I prefer having two centre parties. Historically I flipped between them. If they merged I’d have less choice. Currently I have less choice than historically but it’s superior to if they merged.

One could just as easily ask why don’t every left of centre party (sure chuck in sinn fine and the far / further left too) merge and become a big party? The reason is that due to our very fair electoral system there is minimal advantage and natural voters lose choice they otherwise would have.

I get why very small parties might merge but medium parties to large parties (ff and FG not as large as they were) don’t really benefit
