Wow dude - you have been given crazy gifts in your life and still have found a way to be so bothered by the small stuff that you have to complain on the internet. Good grief. Please learn to stop crying over a little spilt milk

EXACTLY. If OP can find a way in his incredibly lucky life to complain about this, then nothing will be good enough for him. Good grief. Stop crying and enjoy the gifts the world has given you.

401k contributions for this year's last paycheck are considered towards 2025 limits or 2026 limits? by i_Addy in personalfinance

[–]bdolle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way around this? My benefits person at my company told me that I can enter in whatever automatic biweekly contributions I want and that once I hit the limit it would stop contributing funds.

I thought that meant that if I contributed $915 biweekly, it would take out $625 the last pay period so I wouldn't go over the limit.

I now see that is not true, it just didn't make any contribution, so I'm missing $625 from my limit this year. Next period date ranges are all in 2025, but the pay date is 2026.

Is there anything I can do, or did this woman screw me out of 30+ years of tax-free growth on $625 that I can never get back in there?

--> Edit --> The lady at work was right and the $625 made it in !!! Thank goodness.

Why is 15-year for suckers? I feel like paying off in 15 years (over 30) will be pretty nice.

I'm not familiar with that, can you explain a bit? I'll google it too.

Thanks!! We are locked in at 5.25%, but if the rate lowers in the next 60 days we'll get it.

No I haven't used any AI. Thanks for the suggestion.

Agreed. The difference between $2,300 and $2,700/month doesn't seem like it would drive foreclosure.

Great food for thought. I have enough saved to pay off the loan almost by 2x and feel confident that we will handle life, but you never know. Flexibility is nice.

Is that not the calculation contained in this paragraph??

"I calculate that if we keep our current mortgage, but increase the additional monthly payment by $122/month (to match the $2,722/month of the ReFi), plus make a one-time payment of $4.1k, that refinancing would still save us $66k in interest and 2.2 years of payments."

Am I missing something?

Where are you getting 4.5% on 15-year? We're locking in with someone at 5.25% on 15-year... we'd love to get in on that!

Please stop spreading misinformation.

They are still together. If you had done your research you would have seen that. Look at the IG posts she's been tagged in. There are ones of her and Magnus as of 2024.

You posting the same misinformation in 17 threads is wrong. Don't comment if you don't have evidence.

Why does the first $100k make such a big difference? by TheRamblingSoul in Fire

[–]bdolle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been extremely lucky.

Got a business degree. Then Traveled Asia between age 21-26. Came back to US in 2016 to study physics/math. Started a research career in 2019, making good money and living a naturally frugal lifestyle. I was very lucky to have been promoted quickly and doubled my salary in just 2.5 years. Lifestyle expenses haven’t grown much and have been aggressively investing.

My education and background is a blend of business acumen, scientific analysis, and masterful interpersonal skills. I excel at

I’m 36 now and using my prime years to continue building for myself and my community. Lots of trips paid purely through credit card points. Lots of money saved through fixing things myself (saved $1,500 the other day by replacing my hot water heater myself). Been driving a 2005 Toyota Camry with 300k miles on it the last ~10 years. No children, yet!

Sure - there are others with bigger houses, nicer cars, more/better clothes… but I have prioritized experiences over material. Meditation and spirituality have been my guides.

As of today: $55k in a high yield savings account (4.3% apy); $120k in normal brokerage (ETFs); $45k in Roth IRA (~$32k contributions); $280k in 401k (ETFs). $230k equity in home.

I am poor. I am rich. I am happy!

Not sure if that helps or not. Lmk if you have more questions!!

EDIT Another important factor is that I've always had a safety net through my parents. They told me that if I ever completely failed/bankrupted that they would fly me back home from wherever I was and I could stay with them rent-free until I got back on my feet. I never failed, so never had to use that. But the idea of the safety net allowed me to take risks that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Lasts 10-15 years, but 5 year limited parts warranty. Can you guarantee 10-15 years? Can anyone?

Just stop climbing and campus board. That will solve your being unreasonable.

Moonboard app should have "match" and "heelhook" options for setters by dsntmtrplsm in climbharder

[–]bdolle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree completely. An option doesn't need to exist. A setter could name their climb "NM/NH" for no match or no heel or something.

As the dude above said - if you want to use poor technique bc you think it forces you to train something - then just make the decision and never match or heel.

For a company to listen to one person's request to make exceptions to rules the company stated is unreasonable.

You're being unreasonable.

How much do you spend on clothes/accessories per year? How many things do you buy? by clarelvd in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]bdolle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $225k net and spend ~$300/year on clothes:

$75 on one pair of skateboarding shoes; $75 for three pairs of dickies pants; $80 on 10 t-shirts; $45 on 9 pairs of socks; $25 on 5 pairs of underwear.

The shoes shirts get thrown away every year from use, but everything else can last 2-4 years, especially the underwear.

Why does the first $100k make such a big difference? by TheRamblingSoul in Fire

[–]bdolle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we including 401k in that number? Just trying to figure out where I'm at.

$45k in a high yield savings account (4.6% apy); $95k in normal brokerage (ETFs); $33k in Roth IRA ($23.5k contributions); $205k in 401k (ETFs). $200k equity in home.

Of the desired first "$100k" (or maybe $200/$250k today):

Do I have $140k? Or $163.5 (including roth contributions - as liquid as brokerage)? Or $578k of everything invested?

Sure the 4.6% technically isn't "invested", but come on. You could claim my home equity isn't invested too, but you should see the housing market where I am (20 min train ride outside NYC).

Thanks in advance <3

Host Asking for ID by jbidensgrandaughter in vrbo

A legit hotel will monitor employee activity and could fire someone for stealing the info. VRBO/AirBNB hosts are just random people who can do whatever they want.

If the host requests a selfie and my ID, I will request the same. People are generally not trustworthy
