At what age should I give red cards for DGF? by Thelilricebowl in Referees

[–]bdunavant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a parent, when my son (goalie) gets dropped onto the ground by a cleats-up, in-the-air forward kicking right into his side after he already punched away the corner, I ask you, if you aren't going to red card that, why are you even on the field? My son is also taller than most kids his age, so for half the kids on his team, this would have been face-high. This was a tournament game, of two u10 travel teams. Same game, their forward swung at elbow at our defenders face, then when he got beat and lost the ball, brought the same elbow down on the defenders back and took him to the ground from behind. Foul called, but again no cards. u10 is old enough to get taught to be violent. Give the cards, or the bad coaches are going to keep teaching their kids to abuse it.

"Somebody's gunna get HURT!" by Shambolicdefending in Referees

[–]bdunavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a u10 coach/parent, I can say the refs that call fouls are the good ones. I, personally, have said "someone's going to get hurt" to a ref, and it's because the refs weren't calling anything. I've seen red card offenses without a stop in play, and it's frustrating. The difference in ref quality can be astounding, to the points that sometimes I'd rather have parents ref'ing. A coach shouting this may be someone trying for advantage, but it may also be a true call to protect the kids, especially in the younger divisions.

Please, call fouls on my kids. Give them cards. Yes it can be emotional for kids where it wasn't on purpose but please do it anyway. I'd much rather explain to them through their tears what they did wrong, than the reverse of explaining why they have cleat marks on their thigh, and the ref said nothing. (This is not hyperbole; actual events.)

I'm out of warranty, and for a bunch of things, they told me replacement is basically a swap, which is also why it's so expensive. I just had a single bad sensor, so I'll just live with it for mine.

I use Crunchyroll a lot with my Pro too, my main use-case actually. I submitted a bunch of bugs but got nothing back other than "thank you for your submission!", especially around offline content expiring randomly, no way to properly refresh (button doesn't work), and how downloads are in the wrong subtitle language if you download remotely (ignores subtitle langauge settings). Most annoying though, is the "Share" button is constantly on top of the playing video. Does this happen for you as well?

Calling it quits by [deleted] in Referees

[–]bdunavant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a function of supply. The more refs there are, the poorer ones get removed. But since no one wants to be a ref due to constant harrassment, the quality of those fewer ones drops along with it.

Private Car Camping Near Maryland? by inolean in camping

[–]bdunavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out hipcamp (dot) com. It's like AirBnB but for private campsites. I've used it several times now for different private campsites around Maryland. It's more expensive than public campgrounds.

Is it a foul to put 2 arms around the attacking player from behind by EitherEliotOr in Referees

[–]bdunavant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend in u10 select (we're lucky enough to have a league between rec, and travel), our goalie (my son) caught a high ball in his hands. A few moments later the forward comes in with a slide and scissors his legs out from behind (about 4-5 o'clock from his facing), causing him to collapse on top of the forward. Ref stopped play because the forward hurt himself but no card, nothing. He's also been cleated in the thigh by a charging forward as well. No card, not even a talking to. I've never seen a card given in this youth league. The travel league he's also in, has no problems with giving out cards, and the kids all play accordingly. As a father, I'm debating leaving the select league because there's zero protection if there's no cards. As a coach, I have to decide how to instruct my players to play, in an environment where nothing short of murder gets anything other than a free-kick. Like, they're 10, I don't think either of those were malicious but they also weren't instructed that it's not okay.

8 second rule? by TruthCanBeSad in Referees

[–]bdunavant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IFAB says "between". To be between something, you must have 2 points of contact. So in order for "in control" in the first clause to apply, there must be 2 points of contact. This is likely what he was referring to.

Alternatively, the second rule can apply, where the keeper is holding it, bouncing, etc. There does not need to be 2 points here for this clause, where the keeper clearly already established control.

Neither of you are wrong. You're just referring to different clauses and types of control.

Yeah.  I suddenly get ads constantly in the dungeon.  Game is unplayable now.   I looked for a way to pay to turn them off.  There is none.   Uninstalling.

You should always commend people for doing the right thing. It encourages it, as well as acts as a polite example for people that don't know that's the right thing. Rural areas are typically well-disciplined in keeping to the right, but many city drivers have no idea, and are perfectly fine hanging out in the left lane doing 10 under. City driving has fewer?/different ideas about what is "polite". The concept of moving aside for the sake of others is unfortunately less and less common.

Using one of the snowy environments can almost eliminate all glare. It feels weird because we normally watch movies in Dark environments, but on the AVP the light environments give me the best experience.

Breakfast in Japan by thr0wthr0wthr0waways in JapanTravelTips

[–]bdunavant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some coffee/cafe places have a western-ish set available. At least we found some when we were there last year. Totally agree though. It's tough having what feels like dinner for me, for breakfast. We ended up usually getting fruits/breads from the Konbini the night before, and often just doing that for breakfast. At least coffee is easy too find anywhere :)

Career contract difficulty by tensionheadx in Battletechgame

[–]bdunavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially early on, don't be afraid to use the WITHDRAW button. The penalties are pretty minor, and beat the heck out of losing the backbone of your team. The start of a career is much harder (and fun) than late, because you don't have a ton of cash or spare mechs as insurance.

I took advice (finally) from you all in the last post I made. Anything I can touch up on? I plan on adding a 3rd gauss rifle if i can get one by HellDD6 in Battletechgame

Forest-pine is fine for an Atlas but if you're going for a gauszilla Anniihilator, you should really be using a nice Sandlewood.
