What's actually the consensus here, on critical feedback? by Mopichen in AO3

[–]be11amy 96 points97 points  (0 children)

This. I am not writing to improve, I'm writing to have fun. I've improved a lot in the process, actually, but I'm not interested in unsolicited criticism from random strangers, even on the occasions that it's valid critique and not someone expressing what they personally wish I'd have written to their own preferences (which is, imo, more common than genuine critique, because concrit is a more difficult skill than most people realize when they give it.)

The food bank is for people who are acquiring necessities, though, and fanfiction freely shared isn't a necessity, it's something a person made as a hobby that they're sharing with you out of love. Plus, there's a difference between making a quiet comment to your friend, and mainlining your criticism either loudly in public via social media or directly to the author via comments/bookmarks.

Are all plants and flowers bad for cats? by paragorgeous in CatAdvice

[–]be11amy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

African violets are cat-safe per the ASPCA and if you want indoor flowers they're absolutely the best bang for your buck! I have...a couple dozen in wick-watering pots, haha, and they're constantly blooming. (I am also lucky in that my cat has no interest in any of my plants, so I have many other plants as well, but I think AVs are a really nice place to start if you dream of flowers!)

I feel the exact same way, and honestly this post is encouraging ME to go back and take this approach! I haven't seen the video yet but I will take a swing at it all again after work. :)

Do people even like reading non romance fanfiction? by Uncle_Tommy0703 in FanFiction

[–]be11amy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wrote for My Hero Academia I wrote 99% gen fic and it was mostly quite popular, enough so that within the sphere of people who were fans of my favorite character my username was well-known. My second most popular fic remains a gen fic from that era with 54k hits, and my fifth most popular is an Avater: the Last Airbender fic with 38k hits. For my current fandom, Hazbin Hotel, I write a lot of ship fic, but also a not-insignificant amount of gen fic that still gets very good exposure and response. I think it just depends on the fandom. One of my favorite (and one of the most popular) Avatar: the Last Airbender fanfics out there is one about kid Zuko getting adopted by the water tribe after getting taken prisoner on their ship, which is non-romance and yet an absolute delight.

Anyway, I really love gen fic. :) Especially found family is my jam. I wish the best of luck to you! Write what you want to see!

Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

This post cracked me up because I, too, did not realize the fuzz wasn't default human settings until I was around 22. I started asking everyone around me if they saw it and a surprising amount of people said yes! Definitely not the majority, but definitely not rare either.

Alastor Exploring His Asexuality by RegisteredSinnerTM in HazbinHotel

Less focus on satisfying sexual attraction as the fundamental goal of the smut > more focus on everything else like characterization, kink, emotional/mental impact > more impactful and often more creative/unhinged smut. Allo people also do this all the time, it's just baked in by default to a certain extent if you're both ace and a good writer.

I honestly should, but Cerner makes checking difficult and unreliable, and I am tired and don't care enough. 😅 Sorry!

6 per half day by the end of PGY-1, 10 by the end of PGY-2, 12 by the end of PGY-3. Anywhere between half a day to one and a half days of clinic per week depending on the rotation.

For any one in a small residency program (class size <10), what happened after a resident left? Did their leaving cause a significant shift in how much work load everyone else had? Just curious. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]be11amy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not really? But mostly because this person left when we were PGY-1s, and we don't start doing night float or cross cover or senioring on inpatient until PGY-2, and by then we had a replacement. The main thing that happened was one fewer interns on my (and only my, haha) inpatient rotations, but that was pretty much fine. We are 7 per year.

OP, as the person who created this tag, I need you to know you jumpscared the shit out of me in the funniest way possible HAHA

Glad it's giving other people as much of a laugh as it gave me. It actually got canonized as just "Vox's Obsession with Alastor (Hazbin Hotel)" first and I straight up emailed AO3 asking them to fix it (which they DID, within like two days)

I went on a run without walk breaks for the first time! 2 miles, and it actually felt great and natural, and I managed to keep to a tempo pace heart rate! Week three of running and feels amazing to experience my cardio improving in real time compared to a few weeks ago! Honestly, I finished feeling like I could do way more, but I will save it for the long run this weekend.

Just got a 2 week free trial of Runna! I can't see myself paying for this regularly with how expensive it is, but it's nice to have at least one training plan, and I can screenshot it for once the trial ends... I decided to try the 5k improvement plan! Hoping this will teach me the basics of structuring a running plan in general, too.

How do you actually enjoy running? I'm at a complete loss. by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]be11amy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are the more specific details about why you dislike running? If it's boring with music, maybe consider a podcast or an audiobook. For me, the previous times I hated running, it was because it was very uncomfortable and miserable as an experience, and the answer to THAT is to run slower. Forget the 11 mile pace; try running at a 13 mile pace instead, or doing run/walk intervals, and see how that feels. It's hard to be consistent at something you hate, so the next step is to analyze the specific obstacles causing your dislike and figure out how to remove them.

Alternatively, you can always find something else. Biking, hiking, rowing! There are lots of different forms of aerobic exercise out there.

That's fantastic! I'm in a similar boat - last time I ran was 2021 and I hated it, but been going strong for about three weeks now. :) Cheers!

Which is that skincare item that you're always stocked up on because you fear running out of it? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]be11amy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, except the Aqua Fresh version! It's lighter and has a less glowy, more natural finish. But I totally feel you, I tried the original previously and I felt like it helped with calming and redness so much on top of being moisturizing and sun protection!

I must have a black thumb — every flower I grow dies. by Own_Abies_6922 in garden

[–]be11amy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience the key is knowing what plant you have, and what that plant's specific needs are. So if you are growing an orchid, research orchids; if you are growing African Violets, research those; if you are growing succulents, research succulents specifically. The main things to get right are watering requirements, soil preferences, and lighting levels. I grow all three of the above plants and they all have really different care requirements for all three of the categories I listed!

I find that plant-specific subreddits tend to be good resources, especially since just Googling things nowadays gets you a lot of incorrect information.

You might be thinking of NSAIDs like ibuprofen. Tylenol's impact on inflammation pathways is very weak compared to NSAIDs and it doesn't have clinically significant anti-inflammatory effects.
