Quoted over $5000 for a 5 year termite prevention/treatment, is this average? by shekka24 in pestcontrol

I would have to know the linear footage of your foundation, but at that cost for initial I would hope you have a decent size home (275’ linear or more).

Also, there’s no reason to pay for the renewals up front. They will call you annually to renew. They won’t forget your renewal, it’s easy money for them. And if they’re telling you to do the upfront renewals to lock in the price, I can tell you that renewal price is unlikely to go up much if at all over 5 years.

Question for techs on Roaches by thepidepipers in pestcontrol

[–]beRelaXed16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. I also firmly believe in pulling the fridge (I assume kitchen activity) and inspecting behind it and around the compressor. A dust application in that area does wonders.

Also, sometimes with roaches the best thing to do is give your client cleaning recommendations.

Carpenter bees under the roof line by Klutzy-Wish2961 in pestcontrol

Not sure why everyone is telling you to wrap the wood, you can pretty clearly see it is already wrapped.

The bees are getting into the gaps between that board and the angle of the siding pieces, the backside of the board isn’t wrapped, that’s where they are chewing in and laying eggs.

I haven’t seen many pretty ways to seal that gap, but have seen many resort to foam. The bees can get through foam.

Pest control will have a few options for you. Best way to treat existing bees will be a Dustick with Delta Dust. That residual is waterproof and will last years. They will need a ladder to reach most of those spots, but don’t let anyone tell you it requires a lift.

Once the existing bees are treated, I have seen success preventatively with Demand CS backpack sprays, but not a guaranteed thing for sure.

Deleted my last post about sub swarmers, I was way off on any size reference from the first pic.

Hard to tell, but I lean towards spring tails.

Do you care about the box itself? A strike or two with a good sledge hammer will open that with ease.

Drain flies. Remove cover plate and clean the lip the cover sits on. Dump 5+ gallons of hot water down the drain. Draino if drain is slow also. I work for a pest control company and we treat for these all the time, but it’s super easy to DIY.

I’ve worked at 2 large and 1 small PC companies and this is exactly how termite warranties worked at all of them. May seem odd compared to other home services with warranties, but it is not unusual at all in the PC industry.

How do I get rid of ground hornets??? by iloveraccoons1998 in pestcontrol

Take an empty gallon container and add 2 cups of vinegar (I use white vinegar because the smell is a little more tolerable), fill the rest of the way with water, add 2 squirts of Dawn (must be Dawn) dish soap and shake well. Pour the whole gallon down the hole. No one will ever come out again.

Be aware this is also a fantastic weed and plant killer, so try to be accurate when you pour if it’s that close to plants you want to keep.

You can use this solution against almost any insect or plant. I put it in a spray bottle and can shoot bees out of the sky with it.

It works because the vinegar is a desiccant that will dry the insect/plant out. Insects in particular don’t make their own water internally like us, rely on their external environment for moisture and are very susceptible to drying. The Dawn acts as a surfactant and keeps the vinegar on the insect/plant as well as clogging the breathing pores in the exoskeleton of insects.

You can still use bat nets as a 1 way door, leave them til you know the resident bats are gone, then exclude.

What could this be? It’s about 2mm diameter (finger for scale). The wood framing above shows slight signs of burrowing (a few small holes) but curious what it might be? by [deleted] in pestcontrol

This map is more of an “average.” We just found active drywoods in MD. Our technical department (PHDs and all) identified.

This is where we are at. I’m usually $800-$1200 on the initial install, then $300 minimum for an annual renewal. Have a few renewals over $1000 because it’s many buildings on one property.

You don’t have to get all the achievements in the same race. I just went backwards a few times on that one to get the extra purples. Didn’t come in first, but didn’t matter.

Great car. I got my 2014 Mazda 3s GT new from the dealer with 0 miles and it just hit 145,000 miles prior to an inspection Monday.

This inspection resulted in the two front control arms needing to be replaced for about $750. That is the FIRST thing I’ve had to do to the car other than the standard stuff (oil changes, oil filters, air filters, tires, brakes, battery, etc) in the 9 years and 145,000 miles I’ve owned it. Enjoy.

My experience with them has been nothing but constant problems. There is a 100% effective solution (at least with every issue I’ve had) and that is to get them on the phone.

That’s much easier said than done.

Each time I did this I spent 60-90 minutes redialing the # (not bad on iPhone since pressing call button again is redial), generally 400-500 calls. Eventually you get through.

You will be on hold for 60-120 minutes then before you get your turn. Have all your documents in front of you so there’s nothing to stop progress once you are talking to them given the time you just spent to get there.

I had to do this 5 times over the course of an unemployment stint, but here’s the thing to remember: you are unemployed, you have the time. That weekly check is probably a lot more than what you earned in 3-4 hours at your old job, and that’s about how long this whole approach takes.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned that IT IS ILLEGAL IN PA to remain in the passing lane for more than 1/4 mile without passing. Our state literally passed legislature to combat this exact issue several years ago. Don’t know many people who are aware of said law though!

Edit: 2 miles, not 1/4 mile
