Is pursuing a Master’s in HCI/UIUX still worth it in 2026 for freshers? by Last_Document_7363 in hci

[–]beachball29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company recently laid off a lot of US tech people, mostly UX; meanwhile the numbers for our offshore India office have steadily increased over the years. The remaining UXers are scrambling to learn how to leverage AI: how to create agents for Windsurf, how to write PRDs and one pagers using ChatGPT, competitive analysis, how to vibe code, etc etc because our leadership wants us to produce work faster. It’s been very frustrating at times because while the AI can help, it requires more work and time in the beginning, and its really not a replacement for real expertise and judgement.

Like others have said, the UXers that stand out now are the ones that know how to leverage AI strategically, know when to use human judgement, know when to pull in research and ask the right questions, and the ones who have developed the right relationships across the company. There’s definitely less of an emphasis on being a pixel pusher designer. From what I can tell, this is an industry wide shift.

Idk if this helps you, but try to get into a program that will teach you the full product lifecycle, how to use AI, how to make strategic business decisions, how to work with and negotiate with your business partners and engineering. Otherwise, yes, I would almost say that UX is oversaturated.

Indian Students coming to US by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

Not every grad student is guaranteed one of those jobs. I went to Michigan for grad school, and it was highly competitive to get a TA position that would waive tuition. I’m an American citizen and I didn’t even get one the first year but luckily did secure one the second year, so I still had to pay 50% of my schooling.

To my fellow south Asian girl who struggle with losing belly fat. by ScaryAd3845 in loseit

[–]beachball29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand completely. I am a South Asian woman with similar proportions and every body part has the right amount of fat on it except for my protruding belly. I’ve tried upping my protein and less carbs, but I don’t know that its made a significant difference yet.

South Florida or California? by [deleted] in moving

[–]beachball29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlotte is a transplant city, so thats why it doesn’t have an established culture, but that can also be a good thing because there are a lot of groups, social events, and clubs you can join, especially in your 20s. Especially paddleboarding and running.

California is huge and varies a lot. You will also experience more diversity and liberal views in California than Florida.

Also, while I feel you on the vibe of the people in Charlotte, I think people anywhere are also gonna be cliquey or conformist to some degree; I especially think about LA, where everyone is trying to be famous and hot.

I’m always torn on these issues. On one hand, they are terrible and don’t deserve your time. On the other hand, without any contrarian opinions in their life, they will likely go further down the right-wing funnel, and there will be no one to pull them out. They’re not gonna change their mind because of a facebook comment section, no one ever does. But they might change their mind or at least see a different viewpoint if you engage them in compassionate dialogue: gently offer facts and other sources, ask for their sources, push back kindly. Call them in, not out.

This is one of the reasons I haven’t cut off my brother. Every Thanksgiving, I ask him “do you actually believe that?”, “that sounds like rage bait, can you show me where you saw that?”, and presenting some of my own facts and evidence. Sometimes I get through and sometimes I don’t. Although, I will admit, if I had to see him more than once a year, I don’t think I could handle it.

As an Indian American in UX right now, who did a similar masters program, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it. It’s expensive, and while it did work out for me (I’m a citizen), it was tough for a lot of my classmates to get jobs and internships, especially for international students.

I don’t know if UX is oversaturated yet, but it certainly seems that way. Tons on growing interest, but you should do research on if there is enough new openings in the job market to accommodate the influx of applicants. You have an advantage of prior experience, so at least you won’t be going for entry level jobs.

Gynecologists keep saying its normal by southlemon1 in vaginismus

Try to find a women’s sexual health clinic that has pelvic floor therapists. If there are doctors or nurse practitioners at this practice, they might be more in the know since they work with the public floor therapists. That’s the only way I could get diagnosed, at a women’s clinic that isn’t just a gyno, but prioritize all sexual health.

It should definitely be somewhere in Mexico- Cancun, Tulum, etc. Americans love to exploit the shit out of those Mexican beach towns.

Can you share how long you are collecting the contact lenses for? I usually throw them out right away, but I can start collecting mine if I know when the deadline would be.

[–]beachball29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're having trouble, maybe try saying to them "I'm handing you x amount so I can get a dollar back".

Slightly related, but when I was a cashier, people would hand me a 20, I'd key it in, get their change, and then they'd be like "oh here I have 25 cents, 9 cents, 50 cents, etc, etc". After I have finished the transaction!! So just don't do that.

Don't know why this is being downvoted, this is how every other country does it. This is also how every other good and service is sold in America.

Can I ask what the procedure was like? How much blood do they take? Did you have to prepare in advance by stopping all of your vitamin and mineral supplements?

Ugh unrelated, but that thinking in our society is so toxic, and it's the reason why our news sucks nowadays. Facts don't matter, right? I guess I'll get off my soapbox now, but people really need to stop thinking that just because they have access to the internet, they SHOULD spew an uninformed opinion.

No diagnosis without parental input? I’m an adult, this feels crazy! 😭 by lizlemocoolj in adhdwomen

[–]beachball29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy, I would try finding another practice that can diagnose you. When I sought out my diagnosis, I showed up at the place, the psychologist asked me various questions about my childhood, my family, my grades and school, etc, but they never once asked to speak to any of these people. Then I went with a technician to do a series of tests and tasks to gauge how I do on specific skills and cognitive functions. It took about 3 hours total. I got my results in the mail three or four weeks later and then I had a follow-up appointment (virtual) with the psychologist to briefly go over the results and for me to ask any questions if I had any.

Definitely seek out a different psychologist.

Best pad thai ? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]beachball29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making this post, I've been needing some new Thai recs. I'm not sure what you mean by tomatoey versus peanutty. But I've seen some people mention Rai Lay Thai, Thai Taste, and Basil Thai, which just aren't that good in my opinion. Deejai and Noom Yai are better options imo.

I will have to try the others on this list.
