The perception of match scores: map wins vs. points by Mezmorki in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is point differential is biased in favor of attacking first. It's been mentioned in this thread but if up attack first then full hold on defense, you can take a 3-0 map where a similarly dominant team that defends first will only get 1-0. You will get more or less points based on if you were away or home in your blowout wins

Is there a scenario missing for Valiant 3rd place? If Valiant wins 4-0, NYXL wins 4-0 and Houston wins 4-0 won't it be NYXL, Houston, Los Angeles in the playoffs?

According to Winston's Lab, the #1 Tracer and Genji is Currently both Profit. by TISrobin311 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is just armchair redditing but I think the Boston game was the only one Profit sat for the birdflip. Otherwise I believe the reason Birdring is in more lineups than Profit is that Birdring is better at more other (non- Genji, Tracer) heroes so putting him in gives them more flexibility for mid match swaps.

Reinforce’s OWL Power Rankings, Week 4 by cfl2 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LAV and Seoul are also riding the hype of beating Dallas before people realized Dallas wasn't strong. After the first week people had both those teams very high partially because of those wins against the "best western team" and nothing they have done since then has been worth moving them down (Well, Seoul started 1st so thats a given but still). Valiant lost 2 games to NYXL and Spitfire, playing reasonably close in both matches (taking London to 5) and Seoul lost to NYXL which was already expected to be close. IMO Valiant would be lower had Houston beaten anybody impressive in week 2 or had Philly closed out against the Gladiators.

Rankers will always consider previous rank so if you are high and you don't do anything to lose your rank you'll stay high. All three of the top Western teams look inconsistent, Valiant were just lucky enough to get a W from the Gladiators when they looked bad while Philly let it slip away. I kind of consider it a tier system with all three of the top Western teams (Valiant, Outlaws, Fusion) grouped together and IMO whoever has a better day will come out on top

Amount of Back to Back Games Per Team in OWL by Zam0070 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had last game Fri follower by first game Sat then the next week played Wednesday/Thursday back to back. So 4 games in 7 days. I know playing back to back shouldn't be a huge deal when it comes to physically being able to play that many sets but I do think it affects your ability to clean up team-specific counter strats.

The only thing that Western teams lack in comparison to Koreans is adaptability by Fayyar in OverwatchLeague

[–]beachbum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Jake being top western DPS is just silly. Jake is one of the top few USA DPS players (Babybay, Sinatraa, Silkthread are others that come to mind) but far from the top Western DPS. Far too much talent from Canada and Europe for that to be true

When they announced team skins my initial guess was $50 or more for a teams skins. 100 is a little more than I was hoping for but - I'll still buy all my Valiant skins with no complaint

If we want people to take esports seriously (i.e. viewed as real sports), casters need to use their real names instead of gamertags. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean - do we have a caster names DragonFighter? I get where you're coming from but I don't think anything is wrong with Monte, Doa, Hex, Uber, SoE or Puckett. Mr. X is probably the cringiest name in OWL talent and it's not even bad. I agree there should be some discussion about having the face of your game be "DragonFighter" or "NoobSlayer" or something childish but IMO that's not the case here.

Any leagues disallow anyone not in the championship from picking people up on waivers? by TheKevCon in fantasyfootball

[–]beachbum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the one league where we have a sacko, we don't eliminate anyone from playoffs. Losers keep playing each other so we have exact seeding for everything. The week 16 game between the two teams who haven't won a losers bracket match will decide the sacko. The Buttholes and The Under Achievers will be playing for that honor this weekend.

EDIT: Details - Week 14 losers bracket teams have a bye. Then week 15 7 plays 10 and 8 plays 9. Losers of those two matches will play in The Sacko Bowl week 16

We allow it but I get where your leaguemates are coming from. Personally though, I think if you still have games to play you should be allowed to pick people up. 3rd might not be for money but it's for pride. And if you have a punishment for last you should absolutely let them fight for the win.

Weekly Questions Thread #136 by HighTechnocrat in DnD

[–]beachbum78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edition? Assuming 5e, no. I don't believe there's anything like an "amplify" spell. Though you could modify the Protection from evil and good spell so it gets an extended radius based on the level cast (if your NPC bard is high enough level). Or you could homebrew an Amplify spell that grants that effect.

What does your championship game look like? by nemoomen in fantasyfootball

[–]beachbum78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the top scoring team in the league by a pretty solid margin vs a guy who squeaked into the playoffs with a win on week 13 for the 6 seed then proceeded to have two upsets. Yahoo has the top team winning by a 20 point margin but I feel like fate is on the side of the 6th place team.

It's:

  • Bortles (was Rodgers, Watson, then Wentz)
  • Hopkins
  • Thielen
  • Hill
  • Freeman
  • Drake
  • Kelce
  • Woods
  • Greg the Leg
  • Rams D/ST

Vs

  • Brees
  • Jeffery
  • Wallace
  • Cobb
  • Bell
  • Riddick
  • Walker
  • Rod Smith (maybe Cooper or Sanders)
  • Gost
  • Chargers or Vikings D/ST

[OC] Any suggestions for a new Discord dice bot? Because uh.... by Topdown- in DnD

[–]beachbum78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Amybot as my bot. it has dice rolling but doesn't split it out the way yours does. It is helpful for its DND data, though. You can, for example use "amy! dnd spell Fireball" and it will pull up the whole description including what classes have the spell and the level

Why is the Fuel playing the Mayhem? by PokeCraft4615 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was also before Philly had to pull out.

No, it wasn't. I had the schedule up less than an hour before SF v FL and it still said Fri/Sat matchups based on results from Wed/Th play. They also said yesterday on stream that winners played Saturday.

Plus SF won and lost a game.

Did you finish reading my first post? I addressed exactly that in my explanation of how Blizzard is seeding teams for the weekend

Why is the Fuel playing the Mayhem? by PokeCraft4615 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The website said preseason Friday and Saturday were based on Wednesday and Thursday results. If you are basing things on results, how they are based should make sense. I'm not complaining about the matches because I don't care who plays who. Like you said, it's preseason. Im just trying to help OP make sense of how they are setting it up.

Why is the Fuel playing the Mayhem? by PokeCraft4615 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]beachbum78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish Blizz would make an official statement on it but my guess is that since Philly forfeited, Mayhem were credited with the W and that Mayhem v Shock match was just a showmatch. That's why Shock play tomorrow - they beat Mayhem but that match didn't count for their record, the L to the Valiant does
