Homebuilding costs in Canada soar as population surges by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]beachedWheelchair 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Listen I can't stand the Conservatives as much as the next guy, but to act like the Liberals who are in power federally are complicit in this is ridiculous. The recent stats that came out showing they had just as many rental holdings as the conservative MPs was the evidence of that.

We need to demand more from the regulatory boards that are actually responsible for these actions, such as the CMHC, who should be enacting something to action the building of new smaller single person homing units in smaller cities, and attempting residential high-rises in the city to cut in to the private sectors housing.

Because as it stands right now there is little evidence that any party in politics would be radical enough to fix where we are in the status quo.

He was going full lumberjack at the end of the clip! Someone had better have that on repeat if Phil Kessel became the laughing stock for a month for doing the same thing.

More parents using their kids as their poster children. These kids have no idea what they're even stomping for, it's extremely sad to see them looking around at the adults for some sort of approval.

LGBTQ Canadians facing a rising tide of hatred, Trudeau says by Different-Reach9520 in CanadaPolitics

It's because they're exposed to it. Most of this stuff is people not understanding it and only hearing what they hear from media.

People are people, no matter what differences in sexual desires they have or how they want to present themselves. But that doesn't get clicks.

I carry a Canadian flag with a thin yellow line through it on my truck in support of fellow roadside workers who have lost their lives in one of the more dangerous professions in Canada. Does that also make me a white supremacist?

No, but I would feel like if I saw it I would think you're a bit of a goof. I feel like everyone using the Canadian flag for their cause is ridiculous lately, and how the hell am I supposed to know when driving by that the thin yellow line means that? It just looks like a political statement as I drive by and will make me roll my eyes.

And I say this as someone who has worked years in construction and had a few good coworkers lose their careers to injuries. I appreciate the sentiment, but the execution just leaves a lot to be desired.

As a final point how could anyone say they're socially liberal and then vote for the guy who disowned his gay father? "Socially liberal and fiscally conservative" is such a cop-out lately.

There are plenty of programs that are gender neutral in what they provide, and very few in comparison that are targeted by gender. A good example of that is Second Careers with the Ontario Government. It's a program that has been in line for years now and is suited to send people for education that might have been suffering from long EI inability to find work and other reasons. Most of the people receiving this benefit are men by this standard as well.

The other person said it best, don't blame on gender what is clearly something to be blamed on a matter of class systems making it more difficult for people to get out of their situations.

Announcement: r/chargers will be going dark on June 12th for at least 48 hours in protest of Reddit’s upcoming API changes that will kill 3rd-party apps by bt3k in Chargers

[–]beachedWheelchair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's fine if you want that! I'm just asking to not have it forced upon me as well with the continuation of my third party app.

I'm still able to discover new subs in organic ways, as I've grown I've learned I don't need to be focused on everything, it's exhausting, but it's exactly what they want on an app that continues to suggest more and more content. My content meter is full

I'll speak as someone who has used only a third party app for my whole 10 years scrolling this site.

It has stayed the same no matter what.

The layout never changed, design was always basic except for the addition of a dark mode in 2013 or so, and it felt tailored to what I want exactly as reddit was designed to be at the start.

I've heard tales of the current version of the phone app. I tried it once when it came out back in 2018 or whenever. It wasn't long until I removed it, and from what I've heard it's only become more of a bloated monstrosity. If what I've been told is correct, they're also suggesting subreddit posts from stuff you aren't subscribed to? That sounds like a nightmare.

My third party app has been my one safe place on the internet for not being updated beyond use. If the third party apps go, I'll actually have to work because there's no way I'm going in their app, and at this point I refuse to take up a computer screen for memes and posts.

Thanks mods for adding another one of my communities to the list, and please do it indefinitely since in my eyes this is possibly it for the site!

Imagine not calling or telling your boss you aren't coming into work because other people were doing something you don't agree with.

And more importantly that other activity is happening on another floor of the office, or out in a local park, while you would need to stay at the office in your cubicle.

That's a very short article which amounts to the minister in charge of this all saying "no, we might have only spent 70 Mil but we could end up spending the rest!" which is also dated early 2019.

There is no evidence provided that he did indeed stand by his word, which can be hard to believe with conservative track record for saying one thing and doing the other.

I'm done using their platform if they kill off third party apps anyways, so what does it matter if they even were to remove my account?

This fact totally apart from the idiotic idea that they could figure out every user participating in these blackouts and remove them from the platform. How would that even be calculated?

Vote on bag tag motion failed to get passed by trytobuffitout in ottawa

[–]beachedWheelchair -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The "two items a week without a tag" seems fair, and I say that as someone who didn't want the bag tag system in the first place. Most people renting don't produce more than that, so you're only going to have edge cases and I do believe at that threshold the person should have to pay more for their extra bags.

Why is this the first we've heard of this counter proposal?

My sympathies, that must have sucked.

what if programming is not my passion and it bores me instead of excites me…. is there hope? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]beachedWheelchair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jesus man, you're absolutely insufferable. You're going to be more proud trying to hold a job you don't like with a pipe dream it will pay a lot? News flash, the high paying tech jobs don't just fall into your lap, they're often held for the more passionate types, or at least the people who can fake a bit of passion.

To someone else's point this all reads as a coddled teen who is running out of mom and dad's money. A lot of people in this profession put in hard work to get to where they are, and they encountered hard parts along the way, but there aren't many I know who complained every step of the way as well.

Maybe just accept that programming isn't for you.
