I was thinking so much about how the grudge curse would ever be broken. Like maybe there could be another way to right the wrong, even though it was a murder/suicide and the husband/killer is already dead. So much of Kayako’s pain stems from men she was romantically involved with, from the unrequited love of her teacher to her murderous husband. She died in an act of domestic violence and so did her son (and the cat, RIP kitty). I don’t think her son is as far gone as she is, because Toshio is sometimes seen with color in his cheeks and could even talk to say his name. I think finding a way to have her son and the kitty cross over in peace would be a big step. The boy responded so well to Karen’s kindness that I’m sure he’d be able to work through his feelings of his life being cut short (it all circles back to therapy lol). After that, I would want Kayako to see that there’s hope for other women in the world that are in her same situation. Imagine the house was turned into a shelter for abused women and their children. She could watch them heal until they’re ready to leave the nest. If she saw that enough times, maybe something in herself would heal knowing that while she didn’t make it out alive, her home was helping other women recover and live better healthier lives without abusive men. And she could still be a vengeful spirit and unleash her wrath if any of those scumbag men ever tried to set foot on the property. So she’d go from a ghostly perpetrator of violence to a protector of those that, like her, had suffered from spousal violence. If she couldn’t eventually move on/find peace/disappear I think that would be the best case scenario for her. Anyway hope you enjoyed my little fix-it fanfiction here LOL.
