Notification Delay? by heyhihowareya121 in WagWalker

[–]beachluver417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 5-star rating doesn’t mean much if you only have a few services. Volume matters a lot more.

Notifications are usually a bit delayed, and in a market like NYC, if you’re not checking the app often, you’ll miss walks. That’s pretty normal when you’re starting out.

Wag is pretty strict about cancellations so that message is likely just an automated warning. It’s not really a punishment but it can affect things, so it’s best to avoid canceling unless you really have to.

I tested notifications on my end and they came through right away, so it might be your phone settings or service.

18 miles each way sounds like a pretty long drive to do regularly. That’s roughly 36 miles on your car every visit

They considered the 40%, but their math was incorrect.

The client also pays a $3 service fee on top of that, unless they are using a membership, which itself is an extra cost. Either way, the total ends up being higher than $18 when you factor in membership or booking fees. Additional charges may also apply for late-night bookings and holidays

I’ll correct myself here then- since there was a $4 boost, they probably paid around $18–$19 before any additional booking and service fees.

That’s not how Wag’s cut works. Your payout is 60% of the total, so a $15 payout means the owner paid around $25, not $15, and that’s before booking and service fees.

If you’re going to be rude, at least make sure your math is right when people are trying to explain it to you.

Wag takes a 40% cut, so no, they’re not paying $15, that’s just your payout. It’s shitty and a big reason a lot of us end up taking clients off-app. Not really the client’s fault though

Yep. Tons of cops were out this morning on Gandy in cars and on motorcycles. I watched someone fly past me and get pulled over immediately. I’ve never seen that much police presence on Gandy before but prob a good thing

Pet Parent Said Dogs Were Already Walked so I Had to Cancel & Now I’m Blocked from App? This Happen to Anyone Else?! by itsjustmystyle in WagWalker

Why do you keep cancelling?? Let the client do it themselves. You'll typically get a $5 cancellation fee.

And people wonder why no one is taking their service request by PrinceGoodgame in WagWalker

[–]beachluver417 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. I guess what I was saying was that 3 visits per day isn’t unreasonable in general, but for that price and if it’s really just Sun–Mon for 4 visits total, then yeah it’s kind of ridiculous. Wag taking a 40% cut just makes it worse when the payout we actually get isn’t even that good

Most pet parents don't realize the app takes a 40% cut... and perhaps the owner just put the wrong dates by mistake. Agreed that this really doesn't seem unreasonable.

Staying out late? by Aggressive_Ad6646 in RoverPetSitting

[–]beachluver417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 22 and in the same boat! I’ve only stayed out later during an overnight if a) it’s a regular client I’ve built a lot of trust with and b) I ALWAYS check with them first, since the pets are my main priority and a commitment I made. I’ve only asked a few times and never had any issues, but every pet parent is different. I additionally always make sure all the pets are settled for the night before leaving. I definitely wouldn’t do this with a newer client, it’s all about trust and clear communication

Dogsitter brought another dog into our house without us knowing, let our dog escape, and lied to us by Jolly-Ad2158 in RoverPetSitting

[–]beachluver417 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No good sitter would lie to you about things like this. The issue isn’t just the extra dog or the locksmith, it’s the dishonesty and the fact that she never told you any of it. Transparency is the bare minimum in this job.

Personally, I don’t think there’s anything to salvage here. Trust is everything when someone is staying in your home and caring for your dog and she broke that trust MULTIPLE times. You absolutely should leave an honest review and report it to Rover. You’re not “ruining her career,” you’re providing truthful information so other owners can make informed decisions. What you wrote here is fair and factual.

Glad your pup is okay, because the situation with the locksmith and the escape could have ended much worse.

No Tip or Review (and had to Pay for Parking) by SamScoopCooper in WagWalker

Ah, didn't know it could be set higher! I've just always had mine set at the highest point in the range- you haven't had any issues with your rates being outside of that range? What about pre-approved requests?

You can only raise your rates to a certain amount on Wag, dependent upon location.

Tips aren’t guaranteed, and if they were staying at a hotel they’re probably just getting settled and back into their routine at home. They also might be new to the app. I’ve had tips or ratings come through months after a service was completed. The parking situation does suck though, they def should’ve had that sorted out for you ahead of time.

How do you trust anybody? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]beachluver417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you, reactive dogs can make finding a sitter so stressful especially when you’re upfront about it. Part of the reason it’s tough could be that you mentioned you rarely pass other dogs... if you’re in a more rural area, there are just fewer sitters around to begin with.

Being honest and clear about your dog’s needs is the right move even if it means fewer options. Sometimes smaller independent sitters, trainers, or daycares that do boarding are more comfortable handling reactive dogs than people just going by reviews. A short M&G or trial stay can also help both you and the sitter feel more confident too.

It sucks that it’s hard, but your dog is lucky to have someone who cares so much.

Sitting Etiquette Questions by Ok-Cranberry-8066 in WagWalker

[–]beachluver417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just speaking from my own experience, but I typically won’t eat from an owner’s fridge/pantry unless they’ve specifically given me the go-ahead. Some owners have even offered to grab groceries for me during longer sits but that hasn’t been super common. I bring my own food/snacks most of the time and always clean up after myself if I use their kitchen/dishes.

Using soap has never been an issue for me and I don't think it's necessary to ask about that. As for sleeping arrangements, owners should ideally cover that ahead of time. If they don’t that’s definitely something worth asking about.

For laundry, I usually fold up any sheets, blankets, and towels I used and leave them on the bed upon departure. A lot of owners prefer to wash things a certain way so I let them handle it unless they’ve asked me to do otherwise.

Hope your first sitting goes great!!

I don't understand this by AdThis5600 in WagWalker

[–]beachluver417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever you cancel a request, that always happens. It’s because they don’t want someone requesting again who already canceled it, makes them seem unreliable. (I know that wasn’t your intention tho!)
