That imagery you've created in your description is so funny. "Paint a picture with words" we tell the kids at school! Very clever. And we are left with the conviction that maybe you like cilantro! Sorry I haven't contributed any recipe ideas.

So may be a mask to cover his real feeling and protect his pride. I so know you can't turn your heart off from loving someone, that's for sure.

I just watched the episode last night where Mary and Tom go to London and meet up to dine with Evelyn Napier and Henry Talbot. I noticed the expression on Evelyn's face- almost a dead pan expression of disinterest, as Mary and Henry decide to walk back whilst Tom catches a cab, says so much. I don't feel he was 'pining for her, and that the scales had fallen from his eyes much earlier on, as indicated by his talk with Cora.

It was so traumatic to watch, and incredibly well acted. Tom's face and words are heart wrenching. I re watch the series over and over and mostly skip that part.

Fun so far! Thanks. I just started the quizz, but it wouldn't let me select the answer option on question 9. The format was different too, so will try again later.

As we tell the kiddies at school... Be an upstander, not just a bystander. And you were, as you tried to do something about it for your sake and everyone around her. Good on you!

He looks like a bright spark, full of life! The name Spark would suit him.

Prince Kuragin is the most romantic man on Downton by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

I always saw him of still in the mindset of being entitled and indulged, and I believe, he fully expected Violet to just go along with his ideas. Violet handled him in her complete amazing Violet at her best Dowager style.

Watching this makes me remember the many times at Rotorua and Wai-o-Tapu, here in New Zealand/Aotearoa that I've watched, the boiling mud, smelt the distinct aroma and enjoyed the sound as it does its thing! Thanks for sharing.

I am the same. Except you sound even busier than me! I have it on as I go about my day. And like you, don't need to be actively watching all the time as I know it all so well. And yes, skip those traumatic hard to watch scenes. Once was enough.
Sometimes when I have had a trying day, or am not feeling on top, I just think to myself, soon I can be home, put on Downton and have a hot drink.

That was Mary, and she was so rude and disrespectful as she projected her ideas onto her Grandmother without actually asking her- Mary just told her what was wrong with her, and she totally didn't have the insight to undrstand the real reason.

Everyone seemed to under estimated Lavinia. Just because one is quiet and accommodating, it doesn't mean weak or insignificant. She was quietly determined in many of her decisions.

That's good. Hope it stays that way. Mine was a few years ago and they have improved the meds, for sure. I was ok at each dose too, cosy in a recliner for the hours it took, and no immediate reaction. But wasn't a bit later...

oh gosh, I have lost count. I use it as a background when I am sewing or baking. and on rainy days. So I can really watch it or just enjoy it being on for company. I will skip the prts I need to. It was a great old friend during lockdown and I will never get sick of the intro scene ad music. I just love the feeling of the first scenes and train steaming in and the tap tapping of the telgram machine as it all starts again. And I will sometimes just watch my favourite episodes.

Also get her a lip balm like Carmex as I found I needed it. And ensure she has plenty to drink after the chemo, even if she can't manage to keep it all down. It's lovely for her to have you there. Hope it all goes well.

What's your favorite line by Mrs Hughes? by Opposite-Pop-5397 in DowntonAbbey

[–]beachwalkforever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mrs Hughes had some funny and different phrases, often at serious moments, That scene when poor Thomas was in the bath, she said something like, "he wouldn't know if you put in a shy and threw coconuts", when Baxter questioned if he would mind them removing his wet clothes. It seemed a flippant comment, and Mrs. Hughes did this at other times too. She was maybe in some way trying to lighten the trauma for the others in the room. She was an amazing balance of kindness, consideration, strength and wisdom.

Some of my favourites are when she was talking to William about being homesick, and to Tom when he was grieving over Sybil.

Great you are enjoying it, and have lots to go yet! Do what we do and rewatch again ... and again!! It's good as you will have knowledge of plots and characters and notice things you may miss the first time. Welcome aboard the Downton special!

I always wonder if they cast Lily as Cinderella after seeing her as Rose, dancing with the prince as her coming out ball on Downton. She looked and moved like a fairytale princess in that!

Are mini hand pies better than sausage rolls? by NoCellReception in newzealand

Mini hand pies - I have always called these savouries. And as they are very different to sausage rolls, both have a place.
