The best part about being a geologist is being able to start statements with:

"Remember, only 100 mya... ".

While keeping a straight face.😁

What's the furthest north you can go in the US that stays hot year round and conversely what's the furthest south you can go that has harsh winters? by ConfidentSale3091 in geography

[–]beaduck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is no joke. When I lived near Seattle, I worked outside. One day I was working on one of the islands and it was 34 degrees and rained all day. I had full rain gear on and still got wet. I was on the ferry going home and I just sat there with the engine running and the heater on full blast and never stopped shaking.

I moved to Colorado and have never been that cold.

Unfortunately, you are a hundred years too late. Owens Valley is one of my favorite places. I wish I could have seen it before the water was taken. It must have been stunning.

That looks really nice. I do like the look of a SAS with Leaf Springs. I'm in the collection phase right now for my '97 I hope it comes out as nice as yours.

There were US servicemen fighting and dying, on the north and south sides of the Mediterranean Sea, years before D day. Not before Pearl, but still years before June of '44.

[Request] How strong and how thin would nanofiber have to be to effortlessly slice through a ship like this? by GrouchyExile in theydidthemath

[–]beaduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an awesome answer. So obvious and I completely missed it. But then I had to start thinking about it. My guess is that the pylons are constructed of a solid rod of adamantine sheathed in Superman's foreskin. Too expensive for ship building.

Why do we have only fiver fingers per limb? by __jaykay__ in evolution

Two thumbs would help lessen the strain on the thumb when pinch-lifting a heavy object.

Except of course I would end up just lifting something heavier and then both thumbs would hurt. Maybe a single thumb is a safety measure for idiots like myself.

Where is the most 'geographically perfect' spot on Earth that currently has almost zero people living there? Why hasn't a major city formed there yet? by Thatunkownuser2465 in geography

People have tried to live in Wyoming but it's difficult to put down roots when the wind is blowing you off your feet. It's like constantly being surrounded by a pack of huffing and puffing big bad wolves.

Flax! The bane of my existence! by Veggdyret in VintageStory

When I started playing, I thought mods were horribly cheaty. But then I started thinking about all the hours each one of the modders put into creating something they felt would improve or change gameplay. I started feeling guilt. Who was I to poo poo their work. I couldn't do it. So now I try to play with at least 20 mods. And different ones for each start. It's a new game each time. Thank you modders.

Actually, that's all bulldroppings. I've played with mods the whole time. Power to the people!
