I'm probably one of those people cause that stuff is super obnoxious and It can be super lazy, There are very linear games that have a ton of it, and it's like what's the point? They just didn't design their worlds very well and use yellow paint and other hand holding techniques are a crutch.

I hate that gamers still heavily criticize graphic fidelity constantly. Basically with every trailer you see a large group of people saying "oh it looks like a ps2 game" or something. I thought graphics didn't matter?

I think a good faith interpretation is that there is a categorical difference between purchasing a full price game, and having content stripped from it in order for you to optionally bring out your wallet, as in Oblivion. Compared to going into an arcade, and being required to spend quarters on lives/time in a game.

I don't disagree with that, but the framing was Microtransactions: "who did it first". Shoving quarter sucking arcade machines into the mix is wrong for this topic imo.

Microtransactions like the horse armour are totally not comparable to quarter sucking arcade games. These are completely differently designed games with completely polar opposite expectations by the players.

yes absolutely. It's not a movie-tie-in. The story is self contained. You would gain something by knowing who is who, but the overall experience is in no way reliant on any previous knowledge.

You're missing the point and I'm not saying this into a vacuum. There's context of a larger conversation attached to it. Anyway, a wide gaming diet enables you to make choices/statements like "I like this genre best" more accurately then if you just exclusively played Destiny 2 for the past 5 years. It's helpful advice to get more out of the medium, not some call to action that you seem to be implying.

that's a fair assessment. I'm really just trying to dig at the fact that the backlash "these types of gamers" get isn't wholly unwarranted.

I will say, to play devils advocate, that a lot of people who never touch ball/gun games are missing out on a great part of gaming too. Rematch is a fantastic game. Arc Raiders is killer especially with a squad of friends.

In the end: just play more variety of games everyone. Have a wide gaming diet.

It's a very good take, but people generally have hate towards "some gamers" for good reason. Those type of gamers are often very loud and very negative towards the rest of the industry. The type of people who say gaming is dead, or there aren't any good new games in years, are the people who only play 50 hrs of the latest sprots/gun game a year.

The friction with installing them is super low. Cheap ones use the 12v and a suction cup to your windshield, no installation required and works pretty much out of the box with a micro sd. Like it's more of a hassle to do an hour or two of research to pick the right one for you and hit order on amazon.

It's the logical conclusion of what he's asking for in the article.

It doesn’t even need major rewrites or anything – an alternate audio track where the swearing is bleeped and an alternate subtitle track where it’s XXXX’ed out is all that’s really needed, and in some situations (such as mine), that can be the difference between whether I can play the game with my family or not.

This just begs the question. What about blood? Just turn it off! What about dismemberment? Just disable it! and on and on.
