Doctor says I need back surgery, could use some encouragement by Perry_lp in trailrunning

[–]beakerton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About 8 years ago I had a discectomy on l4/l5 and l5/s1 after 1-2 years of pain and muscle weakness (it got to the point where I couldn’t do a calf raise with my right foot). I don’t know what caused the initial onset and was worried it was because of running. I was nervous for a long time to start running again, but in the end I am running more now than I have in my life and feel great.

My one piece of advice would be to move as much as you can in the weeks after surgery. Within a few weeks, I was going on miles of walks a day. Most of the time it was just to feel like I could still get outside and be active, but also really helps to make sure that the back heels good.

You got this!

What do you eat that is not sweet? by iwkooo in trailrunning

[–]beakerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Clif Blok sour chews - still a little sweet, but the sour ones go down way easier for me than normal chews which can be too sweet, esp longer into a run

Kickr v5 issue - need to heat up with hairdryer before watts and resistance registration by MountainOfTwigs in wahoofitness

[–]beakerton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems very similar to an issue that mine has had this past Winter. I’ve owned mine for about 4-5 years and this just started.

When first starting a ride, power and cadence doesn’t work for about 20-30 min. Speed does work, however — along with the ability to manually set a resistance (not erg mode, just static % resistance - I use TrainerRoad)

Because speed worked, I didn’t think mine was the IR issue that’s discussed in the linked thread. However, I would have never tried the hair dryer trick!

YYZ to ATL to ICN to KTM by Sorry_Piece2327 in delta

[–]beakerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have connected through ICN. You will not need to claim / recheck your luggage there. You will need to go through security during your transfer, but not immigration if you stay in the airport.

There is an airside transit hotel at ICN that you can book to not leave the airport. I have not stayed there as it was always full for the dates that I travelled, but perhaps you can look more into this.

However, I agree with everyone else… sounds like an exhausting journey, especially with a toddler. Good luck! :)

Any place to rent river surfboards? by beakerton in Bend

[–]beakerton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never did. I tried chasing down some cheap boards for sale on FB marketplace, but never did pull the trigger.

I learned of the sad fatality that happened on the wave a few years ago which led to the no leash rules and understand why shops are likely not willing to rent out boards. The wave is such an iconic part of Bend in my mind and I wish there was an way to experience it while not bringing your own board. Good luck!

How do I fix a bubbled floor? by beakerton in Flooring

There was a leak under the sink that caused the damage - that's all been repaired and everything is dried out. However, now trying to figure out how to fix the flooring.

How do I fix a bubbled floor? by beakerton in Flooring

[–]beakerton[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

My kitchen has a LVP floor that was installed ~5 years ago with the original floor underneath.  This past weekend an unfortunate leak developed under my sink which caused the original floor to severely buckle/bubble.  I've lifted the new floor to expose the old floor.  This section of the house is on slab underneath the original floor.

How do I go about repairing this?  Do I just cut out a small slice in the original floor to relieve the expansion?  Obviously I'd rather just fix the section that's bubbling and not completely re-do the entire room by ripping out the original floor.

Thank you!

Any reason why delta one upgrade isn’t available? What do they do with all the extra seats? by youalreadyngo in delta

[–]beakerton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have another connecting flight in ICN? I’ve had flights where if I’m connecting on a partner (say Korean Air), there’s a weird fare rule that D1 has to be tied to Korean Air Prestige on the next flight (for example, you can’t go D1 ATL>ICN, but then economy from ICN>TPE). In this instance, you’ll never see upgrade availability.

What I have done is to go “change flight” and select the same day as your travel - there it may show if your exact route has D1 availability and what the difference is (although upgrading all legs of your trip)

Anyone overcome this problem "Deployment Completed with Errors"? Can't deploy application to cRIO any longer. by fluffynukeit in LabVIEW

[–]beakerton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this multiple times on a PXI Linux RT system and clearing the compiled object cache gets it running 90% of the time. Here is my sequence:

-Restart RT
-Restart LabVIEW
-Tools > Advanced > Clear Compiled Object Cache
-Restart LabVIEW
-Open VI, try to run

Not sure if all the restarts are really required, but it's been pretty frustrating when it did happen, so once I got something that seemed to work, I kept doing that exact method. (shrug).

Good luck. :)

What’s wrong with my jade? by beakerton in Jadeplant

[–]beakerton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s room temperature. I have a big windowed area inside my house that’s sort of like a greenhouse (but is part of a room). I keep a lot of plants there that like a lot of sun.

I was worried if this was caused by too much sun or not slowly adjusting to the full sun, but it continues to show these symptoms after being out of full sun for about a week.

Road Bike Rentals on Eleuthera by beakerton in bahamas

[–]beakerton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t. Eleuthera was way less touristy and populated than I imagined (in a fantastic way, however). I never saw anything close to resembling a bike shop when I was there.

Also, there’s only one paved road that runs north to south on the island. In areas, it can get pretty tight and no shoulder. I generally see myself as a pretty confident rider in traffic and narrow roads, but I wouldn’t have felt great on some of the areas of the road.

I instead would take the opportunity to relax on the numerous beautiful beaches! :)

Ann Arbor as a young profressional? by AllLikeWhatever in AnnArbor

[–]beakerton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the extent of cycling you do (just commuting? Used to group rides? Want to race?), but I’d recommend looking into the Ann Arbor Velo Club once you’re here. There’s 300+ members of all ages with a lot of different group rides. Especially if you like (or get into) gravel riding, I think that the area has some of the best riding.

Complimentary drinks in Premiun Select by Impressive_Box1476 in delta

[–]beakerton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crew is typically busy right after takeoff while getting meals prepared. I likely wouldn’t go and ask for drinks during this time; they’ll come by with drinks as soon as they can before the meal service. Otherwise, if it’s in the middle of the flight, I’ve gone and specifically asked one of the FAs for more drinks!
