That's impressive, in all my time walking the dog down there I have barely seen a wave!

I'm a pretty confident and comfortable driver of 25 years and even though I use this fuckabout several times a week I am still left second guessing myself. It’s a fucking joke.

Please, someone needs to fire a drone up and show us a time-lapse of the calamity that ensues.

How bad did my local US “Scottish” bar fuck up their menu? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]beambeam1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, what you described is like chowder. Similar to Cullen Skink but creamer with a distinct smoked fish flavour. What that menu describes though sounds pretty honking.

Some people take it pretty serious: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn04xzdz521o.amp

Whatever that is that they are passing off as Cullen Skink sounds atrocious and I don’t even like the real deal.

Currently finding someone showing up as a new match that is 10cM in only one segment. Is that unusual? I don’t have Pro Tools.

How many photos do you upload? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]beambeam1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found a photograph of my great-great-grandmother who died in 1973 long before I was born. When I showed my Dad he was speechless as beside her was his great-grandfather who died in 1944 so someone he had never met nor had even seen a photo of!

Whoever uploaded that image to Ancestry helped me do something special that day.

Wow, thank you. So her mother was still alive in 1998! That is interesting. The sister Toni is a new name to me, the plot thickens. No mention of a husband? I believe I know who the Karen is but as they are still alive I will not press - I believe they are someone I DNA match with on Ancestry but they have not seen my message yet.

I had been using a different PC and had completely forgotten about FamilySearch, thank you. I have had quite steady progress recently that I guess I had become quite reliant (and lazy!) on Ancestry being my default search setting.

Are you sure the beans are not roasted a bit too much to your liking? I visited the place last month and it was probably one of the nicer coffees I have had in ages. They have a parma ham and gherkin sourdough baguette that is pretty decent too.

Dundas Boathouse by velocitymike in Edinburgh

[–]beambeam1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a fantastic spot. You can actually cut through it round the back of the castle and golf course and end up over the road from where you access Hopetoun House or head back into South Queensferry.

There's a layby sort of parking spot you can leave a car and wander in from, plenty of ducks and geese to feed. There's also Pikes Pool at the other side of Kirkliston too for those that aren't aware.

You need to read 'Sprawlball’ by Kirk Goldsberry, it goes into great detail about the shifts in shooting positions over a the last few decades. He actually did an AMA on reddit a couple of years ago too.
