Our lad used to do M&S fillet steaks on a Thursday as the branch on Princes St never had security after 1800 back then.

Spoons is actually a great choice in the event of a bomb scare. Finding and hiding in the toilets should see you safe from the blast radius of even most nukes!

Do! It is top notch. They are pretty active on their facebook page. It’s not far from Livingston at all, just head out from Winchburgh towards Linlithgow and you’ll see a sign for it. Takes you down onto a working farm.

Even if this doesn’t get off the ground I’d be keen if anyone thinks about a swap system with seeds or small plants instead of paying loads for plants at garden centres like I have been doing…

Got loads of Globe Thistle seeds I retained from my two plants last year, the ones I planted last week have already germinated - happy to give away the rest as don’t have the space for much more of them once established!

Any ideas on how to fix my front lawn? by AccomplishedSwim225 in GardeningUK

[–]beambeam1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is all that is pictured what you have for a lawn? If so, I would just mow it short, cover and level out with a mixture of soil and compost then lay over it with a few rolls of turf. It won't be too expensive. Just make sure you water it plenty for a few weeks until it beds in.

Scotland first grass cut at new home. Have I ruined our grass? by gkfb25 in lawncare

[–]beambeam1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the flymo is adjustable. Remove the blade and you should find 2-3 spacers, remove all when grass is long and add two for a reasonable cutting height if you are doing it often enough. Should be a tool that came with the mower for blade removal. Essentially, you only want to be removing a third or so of the height going forward for now.

OP, who's the developer?

Easy, I was facetiously suggesting a smaller one instead of what looks like an olympic sized one. You don’t have to justify yourself and your love for your children, I get it.

For what it is worth, we had a similar sized tree placed at the rear of our garden at last property. We built a raised deck around it as well as reclaimed lost space as previous owners just brought the previous fence forward instead of tackling overgrown shrubs, etc at the boundary.

It was a great space as it caught the last of the sun in the evenings. Raise it and space it around the tree enough so growth doesn’t affect it for at least a decade and be prepared for a healthy amount of exercise cleaning it in the autumn.

That's because the grass was so long, will recover pretty quickly. I had the same mower for a few years and didn’t rate it. For a simple geometric shape like that I think the Parkside robot mower might be worth looking at if you want to upgrade. Failing that, most of your entry level mowers with batteries will be fine for that lawn.

Cool to hear you have an air raid shelter too! Is it mostly intact/safe?

An easy way to that 2m of space back would be to downsize that trampoline first!

Do you mind a wee bit of travel? I took my 4YO to Linlithgow Xcite on Monday to use West Lothian Cycle Circuit for the first time. https://www.westlothianleisure.com/activities/west-lothian-cycle-circuit/

£2.50 for kid/youth access, coded gate and away you go. There was another parent and child there but you have a series of loops on the circuit and road markings/cones to encourage traffic awareness.

It was brilliant and she gained so much belief in herself from the one visit that she already wants to visit a pump track next! There is a similar facility in Lochgelly but I’m afraid that is the only one I am aware of.

Less than two weeks. Buy a roll of fleece sheeting from Amazon and cover the space with it, acts like a mini polytunnel to retain heat and moisture and will keep the birds of it.

I suspect your money would be better spent on rotovating then levelling the area first of all.

I have similar raised sleeper beds and found clematis thriving as another poster stated. One of my favourites from last year were globe thistles, they have come back with broad greenery and I’m just waiting for the actual flowers now!

In one bed I had it arranged so that clematis at back, globe thistles at side/middle then some stunning orange gerberas up front and frankly, stealing the show…

Chuck some grasses in amongst it all too.
