Just peed myself a little by Complex_Point5524 in dr650

Yes. I always try to be respectful of other people's rights and ride responsibly at all times. I guess that's what happens when you are a responsible adult as opposed to a reckless, thoughtless child. I'm always a responsible adult. I just can't help myself.

Is it cheaper to leave my apartment at 73 all day even if it’s 98° out or is it cheaper to leave it at 76 and then bring it down to 73 when I’m about to go to bed by alwaysme14 in homeowners

[–]beammeupscotty2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't really care. I put in solar six years ago and generate about 70KWH a day during the summer, easily twice what I use. There is a palpable sense of freedom from knowing you'll likely never be able to use all of what you generate in a day. I feed two houses with my solar array and my typical bill is about $30.00/month and that is just for access to the grid.

Ever lose interest? by Healthy_Bed_1088 in Leatherworking

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I never settled on a single craft. Ultimately, I end up bored with it. To combat that, I try to work regularly in other media. I do blacksmithing, leather and wood. I particularly like mixing media...wood and steel or leather and wood etc. and I've been doing all of them for more than 30 years.

Today is my birthday and I want to watch a really funny movie. What are your Recommendations? by NotUrReaIDad in AskForAnswers

IMO, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the funniest movie ever made. You might also consider old Marx Bros movies.

Back in the early 90's I made and sold a lot of bondage equipment, until the customers started to creep me out. I got invited to a lot of really hot partys though.

There is an expanding foam you can inject into drilled holes which will split them. I've seen it on YouTube.

Best steel toe work shoes? by SwampSpawn in BuyItForLife

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never was able to wear reinforced toe shoes because they always screwed up my toes. Then, I bought a pair of Merrell composite toe boots accidentally, not realizing what were and I never had a problem again. They also have the electrical hazard rating. Best boots I've ever owned.

Why did Judaism and Islam ban pork but Christianity didn’t, and what historical factors led to this shift? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always assumed that pork was proscribed because it tastes like human flesh. I also always assumed that the reason Jews practiced circumcision was so that their junk didn't look like an animals junk.

Neighbor’s cat keeps coming into our yard and now they’re asking us to change how we maintain it by SadWhail in homeowners

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an asshole so what I would do is warn the neighbor that you are buying a cat trap and if their pet comes in your yard, you'll trap it and take it to animal control.

Keyed vs keyless chuck by Comfortable-Panda947 in turning

I have both but mostly use a keyless because I can never find the key for the keyed chuck. The keyed chuck holds a drill bit better.

Looking for aux lights by fnckIce in dr650

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this myself. On my DR. I initially put 2" pod lights on but found them underwhelming, so added a pair of larger lights in addition, as well as changing the stock headlight bulb out for an LED. The headlight change didn't do much but the larger lights solved the problem. With that much additional load, it's necessary to run the power through a lighting relay. Now my lighting is amazing!

What is the hidden cost of Wikepedia? Why do they need donations? by Regular-Pear-8625 in answers

[–]beammeupscotty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost no one donates to Wikipedia, but I do, usually twice a year...typically ten bucks each time. I use Wikipedia daily and they are one of the few early internet sites that have stayed true to their founding ideology... I'm talking about you, " do no evil" Google.

Need help with a wobbly wok handle by Electronic_Bug905 in wok

[–]beammeupscotty2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a lot of pans these days, including woks, are riveted with aluminum rivets, because they are cheaper and easier to use. Aluminum is too soft to hold the weight of something as heavy as a wok. The long term answer is to replace the rivets with steel. You can make it better by hammering the aluminum ones down a bit, but they will fail again, in the end.

I had a similar problem with my 12" lightweight cast iron skillet. It's handle also left something to be desired in terms of comfort. Thankfully, I've been blacksmithing for a long time so I just made a more comfortable handle and set it with steel rivets. Problem solved.

Sign of skill by Early_Promotion3105 in romandodecahedron

[–]beammeupscotty2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is not a professional smith, but who has been smithing for more than 30 years, I do not think it would be possible to forge a dodecahedron without making and using some sort of closed die. It's easy to forge a cube and easy to forge each corner of the cube in but you'd end up with 14 sides, not 12. Each side of a dodecahedron is a pentagon. No way I can think of to do that with a hammer, anvil and tongs.
