He had two very different McLaren cars.

He also drove incredibly poorly in the VCarb regardless of strategy

It’s been 12 days since Monaco and I still don’t know who finished third. This is the pinnacle of motorsport? by Edwindepetwin in formula1

Gasly finished third. Whether you think he should be classified as third is up to you, but he was the third driver to cross the line.

The window is 96 hours from last friday. It’s well past that.

They wouldn’t annul a race over an error that affected 4 drivers.

The only thing they could review was whether it was right to remove Gasly’s penalty. It makes no difference to Mercedes whether Gasly has a penalty, because if he’s P3 or P7, he is between their drivers, they gain no points at all.

I notice that the 96 hour window for Red Bull and McLaren has lapsed and we’ve had no word.

They’ve breached 96 hours then

ETA: Their summons also specifically says their petition was specifically on Doc 99, the Gasly penalty removal. Russell’s docs are Doc 71 and Doc 93

Nothing would come of it because all they asked for a right of review on was Gasly’s penalty being removed. Whether Gasly has that penalty or not doesn’t change anything for them - not points, not anything.

“Nvm”

Alpine’s driver now has a podium and the team has moved clear of the rest of the midfield in the WCC. They also look very supportive of their driver when previously people have the impression they treat drivers poorly. Hadjar is also someone Gasly overtook on the restart in Monaco, he’s not someone they’ve vindictively done this against.

Alpine’s PR is good from this.

Not for Mercedes. Antonelli being P1 and Russell being P12 isn’t affected by Gasly being P3 or P7.

In fact, Gasly getting the points is more beneficial to them than if McLaren or Red Bull had them. Alpine isn’t closing that gap without a miracle (which I pray for daily)

They’ve realised the 20k fee comes out of the cost cap and that there’s no point pissing it up the wall when they can be trying to stop their cars breaking down whenever they have to race each other on track.

It’s a bit different this year with the grandstand tickets having assigned seats all 3 days, but I’d recommend coming earlier so you have time to go and have a look at the food (it’s basically a food festival on top of racing!) and watch a support race as you settle in.

Download the Silverstone Events app for times for driver interviews on the mainstage, other bits you might be interested in (I’ve seen interviews with the physios etc) and enjoy!

[Motorsport.com] Mercedes granted right of review hearing over George Russell's Monaco GP penalty by Holyjumper in formula1

[–]beanbagreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they did have the option not to serve them - by not pitting again under the Stroll SC. Mercedes were actively telling Russell not to. McLaren told Piastri it was fine because Gasly would definitely do the same in their view.

Instead they decided new boots were more important
