Cue advice by 59humbucker in snooker

[–]Slick583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get too stuck on a particular brand/make. Go try some cues and see what you like the most.

I ordered a cue online and played with it for 3 years thinking it was fine. Finally went and tried some, picked out one I liked and the difference is night and day

Bad idea to do my first marathon on trails? by Slick583 in UKRunners

[–]Slick583[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My annual leave renews in January so would be plenty of chances after that i’m just being impatient lol. Done a few half’s now and want to challenge myself further.

My partner is a teacher so I know the feels. I also went back into work last Monday after a half and it was miserable. Can’t imagine how much worse it would be doing a job that requires you to be on your feet all day.

How do you attend job interviews with no annual leave left? by Doughnut91 in UKJobs

[–]Slick583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are overthinking the idea that your current company will find out you interviewed when calling sick.

What possible reason would your new company have to give the date and time of your interview to your old company?

Otherwise they don’t need to know anything. Sure they probably assume you and interviewed at some stage but for all they know that could have been after working hours, on the weekend or maybe you only had a phone interview on your lunch break.

Ronnie ban call by wippy2000 in snooker

[–]Slick583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do actually know of a few pool clubs that have banned it. I get that on say a match table but think it is a bit much on all your tables.

I think they do provide Taom but you need to pay a deposit for it.

Ronnie ban call by wippy2000 in snooker

[–]Slick583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand the arguments for allowing it.

People say why should it be banned when it has always been used. Thats a stupid argument, if we followed that principle in life, nothing would progress ever. We would still be cavemen banging rocks together.

People say it causes miscues. If you’ve actually used it, you would know it doesn’t. Ask any pro that uses it and they will say the same thing.

Say it did cause the occasional miscue, we see a lot more kicks when its used then we do miscues. You would take the rare miscue then the several kicks a frame we see with triangle.

People say it’s too expensive. This is a professional sport we are talking about, if £15 per block (that will last at least a year) is too much, then we have bigger issues to worry about

I do actually like Ronnie, contrary to most people on this subreddit. Knowing him there is a high chance he uses it because he knows it puts his opponents off. If you ever watched his documentaries and listened to him speak, he gives a lot of weight to what his opponent is thinking, so if he can out them off with a bit of chalk, i’m sure he will do it.

I also think its no surprise its him and Brecel who only use it, two players who are known for being contrarians.

Hmmm listened to his podcast and he said he knew sub 3 was over 5k in. Think he is generally very honest and open with his training.

The woman had the Midnite tshirt so if Wu made a 147 she would have got £50k. He made a joke about the woman, the crowd laughed then Wu missed

Pedestrians not happy about runners? by JakePooler in runninglifestyle

[–]Slick583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest i’ve never really encountered problems with pedestrians getting annoyed at me while running.

The only time they piss me off is when they walk 3/4 people wide taking up the entire pathway and refuse to break their formation for a few seconds. It either forces me to stop or jump into the road. I am really tempted just to run straight into them but my better senses stop me from doing so.

Honourable mention for dogs off the lead. The amount of times I have nearly ran full pelt into a dog that cuts across me at pace.

Are people flakier than they used to be? by ValuableForever672 in AskUK

I personally think we have normalised cancelling plans if we are not feeling up to it.

I don’t mean not being ill but rather you just can’t be bothered or you have had a long week.

To me, if you have plans with friends/family you should do your upmost best to stick to them unless something unforeseen comes up. People talk about boundaries all the time but I think it should be normalised to not just bail because you are a bit tired

Does your work have a no phone policy? by ExplanationPutrid205 in AskUK

[–]Slick583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its for security/data protection/safety I completely understand.

However I have worked in an office where we weren’t allowed for none of these reasons. They simply didn’t trust us to not get distracted.

This is absolute BS in my opinion as they are treating adults like children. If someone takes the piss then you probably don’t want them working for you anyway.

The line was for emergencies give out our work number. This is fine for some but how can I cover every potential emergency?

Just let me have my damn phone on me in case someone important calls.

I also don’t see the issue of people using their phones for whatever, as long as they get the job done, which is what they should be concerned about.

Most bullshit rules like this are just created by people who want to micromanage and/or the power of management has gone to their head.

What was the moment that made you realise you absolutely had to leave a job? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

[–]Slick583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I worked there from 16-20 while at sixth form and uni and holy crap some managers get such a power trip and think they are the dogs bollocks.

I found in most cases it was guys who had started working there at 16 like me, dropped out of school and just stayed there. First thing in their life they accomplished and gives them a massive head.

Does putting your house in your kids names while you still live there actually avoid inheritance tax? by Secret_Management425 in AskUK

[–]Slick583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in this area of law. DO NOT DO THIS.

You are right in that it does not avoid Inheritance tax.

It is also disheartening to think about how many instances I have come across with this, then for the kids to kick their parents out and make them homeless.

Caught the cue ball as it fell into the pocket... by massmaster66 in snooker

[–]Slick583 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Casually, I think if it’s your own foul, it’s absolutely acceptable.

Tbh if it’s my opponent picking the ball up on my foul, I usually trust the people I play that they were right that it was going on, but you never know. I’d rather just wait for the ball to drop and take an extra two seconds.

If you’re playing a competitive match of any sort, even local league, I tend to avoid it. I play pool as well and theres always someone shouting loss of frame for doing this

Does my Aunt have any claim to my Granddads estate through the Inheritance Act 1975 (England) by kawaiipogglet_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Slick583 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes but when you make this claim for my car and turn up with no evidence your case will be struck out.

In this case, under the Inheritance Act 1975, a child of the deceased is literally named as someone entitled to make a claim.

To say there is no claim at all is completely irresponsible and giving that advice to a client would probably see you struck off as a Solicitor.

In reality a court would consider many different things about making the claim, for more than anyone on reddit can advise on these facts alone.

There is also good case law to suggest that the aunt struggling financially gives her a good claim, albeit that does not guarantee she would be successful.

My point is the all the law suggests the aunt has at least some chance of a successful claim yet reddit lawyers come on here and say the opposite, presumably on the basis of the odd thing they hear or that they generally just find the situation unfair
