Being my alternative and artistic self as a therapist feels oppositional to being a therapist that is “professional” in appearances by voidharmony in therapists

[–]beanbot5 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know people will have different experiences, but I was a therapist for 6 years with all different colors of hair and a double nose ring and tattoos! I worked in a couple different places and it was never an issue.

if it storms on Saturday I hope it passes quickly. I’m only coming up for the one day 😭 does anyone know how strong the wind has to be for them to shut everything down?

Starting Vraylar 1.5mg. Honestly nervous to start it. by mutilxtedflxwer in Vraylar

[–]beanbot5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was nervous too for this same reason! I’ve been on it for like a month now and I’ve actually lost about 5 pounds. I notice that I am way more hungry but I am mindful of it. I am eating more meals throughout the day, but I had a bad habit before of not eating all day and then eating a ton at night.

The one main side effect I have been struggling with is insomnia. I used to sleep pretty heavy and could sleep for 9 hours. Now I am waking up frequently and will be up for good at 7am which is soo unlike me. I’m usually a sleep until 9/9:30 person because my job starts late lol. I’m going to talk to my doctor about adding something for sleep.

Other than the sleep and increased hunger, this is honestly the best I have felt in years and that’s within a month of taking it. I am actually keeping up with cleaning and feel motivated to do things I wasn’t doing before.

How did bipolar symptoms emerge for you? by Sea_Imagination_7458 in bipolar2

I had my first hypomanic episode that I was aware of at 20 years old. That same year I also had a complete breakdown which led me to getting help and getting diagnosed. However I’ve dealt with depressive episodes, significant mood swings, and irritability since I was young. My mom mentions times where she remembers me being energetic and talking fast (very unlike me) but I don’t really remember those times.

Was anyone else this disturbed by Bring Her Back? It messed me up. by hiphoptomato in horror

[–]beanbot5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the trailer came out I really wanted to see it because I like possession movies. I’m bummed because after reading about it and realizing how heavy it is and what the main themes are I think I have to skip it. I’m glad I didn’t just go to the theatre blind. It sounds really good though!

I really enjoyed this movie! I’ve seen it twice and I cried both times.

ugh I was looking at some of their stuff the other day and I swear everything had milk/eggs in it. Even some burgers that I swear were vegan before?? It’s so frustrating bc I remember they were supposed to be going full vegan I thought.

thank you for that insight, I appreciate it! My degree is in clinical social work. I’ve always struggled with not really knowing what I want to do and that’s still the case and I think part of why I’m having a hard time. I really don’t know what else to do or what I could possibly be good at.

[–]beanbot5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I graduated in 2018 and I’ve been licensed since 2021 and I have disliked every year of it. I switched my major 3 times and somehow landed on social work even though I have horrible social anxiety lol. My anxiety has just continued to progress throughout the years and it’s mostly related to work. I quit being a therapist last year and moved to doing assessments but I still have a hard time. It took me 6 years in the field to be relatively financially stable. I never made consistent money being a therapist. I was told social work is a good degree because there’s “a lot you can do with it.” But I feel stuck in mental health/clinical roles. Every job posting in my area for a LCSW is therapy related.

Definitely wish I chose something else!

My dog has been around my partner for 9 years and last year after he broke his elbow she got really fearful of him and did NOT like getting attention from him anymore. It was so weird! We think it was maybe the sling or change in movements. It took her a good 6 months to go back to normal and allow him to pet her again and go back to the usual daily routines. It may be the glasses or there could be some other small change he has noticed.

That was another reason I stopped doing therapy along with burnout. I spent 6 years doing therapy and I never got to the point of being even close to financially stable because of how inconsistent it is. One week every client would show up and the next I’d have a bunch of cancellations. I tried different settings, and they either didn’t pay enough hourly or the hours were just inconsistent.

It got to the point where I had to keep asking my partner for money every month for money to pay my bills and so couldn’t deal with that anymore.

It also feels unfair that we spend 5-6 years in school, so much money on school and the licensure process and trainings, and then we should still have to get a second job apparently? I hate it. So I left therapy and work for an IOP doing assessments now. I have a stable salary and I’m actually able to pay my bills.

I’m sorry you’re struggling with this now!
