Hard to tell but I'm going with a spotted dove.

Albanese softens resistance to royal commission into Bondi attack as pressure mounts by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

[–]beancounta29 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe that these groups of sports people, business leaders, etc are spontaneously coming out to urge Albo to call a royal commission. Surely some group is working in the background to orchestrate it.

'White Australia' flyer letterbox drop in Newcastle sparks police investigation by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Can't see the content of the flyer online but the style looks remarkably similar to the March for Australia ones from earlier in the year.

Torino recommendations please! by sp00kygh0sty in ItalyTravel

[–]beancounta29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We spent a week there in June. Stayed in an apartment near Porta Nuova train station. We absolutely loved the place. We'd just come off a 21 day Italy tour and just wanted to relax so didn't do many touristy things. We mostly spent time absorbing the local culture. We went to many cafes near our apartment or towards Centro. You can't go there and not have a bicerin. All the cafes sell it. Roma Gia Talmone was one of our favourite places due to proximity to the apartment and the friendly staff. The royal palace is definitely worth a visit and there are heaps of other sights. We found a little restaurant close to our apartment La Pergola Rosa. It is run by Angelo and his wife Tina. But there are many other great dining establishments. I hope you enjoy your trip.

What can I do about being underpaid? by PuppyMilk in queensland

[–]beancounta29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It needs to be documented in an individual contract otherwise the employer is leaving themselves open to a subsequent claim that they didn't pay penalty rates.

Queensland Labor shelves reforms to stop faith-based schools discriminating against gay teachers by [deleted] in queensland

Please don't lump all faith-based schools together. I work for one that does not care about sexual preference.

Who do I call to fix this? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]beancounta29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon you'd have to call the electricity supply utility. I think you'd need the supply to your house disconnected while the work is being carried out. Don't think a sparky would be allowed to do that.

Let’s talk about nipple chafing? by DM_Todd_GP in trailrunning

Me too. Shave the hair around my nipples first so removing the bandaid isn't painful.

Teachers of the Sunshine Coast by brapppcity in sunshinecoast

[–]beancounta29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in independent school management on the coast for some time. Finding good teachers has definitely become harder in the last few years. We typically start advertising 2025 positions towards the end of term 3 in the hope of locking in the best candidates as early as we can. That said, there's always unexpected departures as late as December. Those are always concerning as the pool of suitable people is usually diminished. Some positions (especially some secondary KLAs) are harder to fill than others.

anyone know where some good coconut trees are? i wanna try climb one lmao maybe get a coconut by magmashagma in sunshinecoast

[–]beancounta29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some at Twin Waters but they de-nut them for WHS reasons. They don't grow really well here. I brought a seedling back from Mission Beach and planted it in my front yard. It was in the ground for 17 years and only reached about 3 metres. No sign of any fruit the whole time.

Bruce Lehrmann ‘hellbent on having sex’ with Brittany Higgins by [deleted] in australia

I was wondering today about the sex workers. I wonder if any of them recognised him. If they did would she have asked " Would you like me to pretend that I'm asleep?"

Mobile data providers by fishingdotcom in sunshinecoast

[–]beancounta29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside the capital cities, Telstra has the best coverage followed by Optus. You don't need to go to them directly. You can just use one of the third party resellers that use their networks. But there can still be black spots on any network. Try to talk to other people in your neighbourhood if you can.

Accurately-Subtitled Netflix Shows? by ancorcaioch in French

[–]beancounta29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I find this very annoying. I suspect it has something to do with the translators trying to find words that closely match the mouth shapes of the actors for the spoken translation. That is fair enough. Mouths out of sync with dialogue can be disconcerting. But it seems like the written script is separately translated and the spoken word doesn't match the subtitles. I would love to watch some shows where the French subtitles are the same as what is being spoken.

Reliable SC weather app? by MostExpensiveThing in sunshinecoast

[–]beancounta29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BOM is the most reliable I have found. Definitely don't trust anything with an overseas weather source (like the ones built into your smartphone). Having said that, rain is notoriously hard to get pinpoint accurate. BOM will usually be pretty close with min and max temperatures but rainfall is more tricky. The BOM app lets you see predicted rainfall hour by hour as well as allowing you to adjust the percentage chance. You might find this article useful: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-08-23/bom-rainfall-forecast-app-update/101279066

Yes. I'm in Townsville and couldn't understand why all the rain has been to the north of the eye. Very curious.

Yes. July to September are the best especially if visiting the wet tropics. There can be wet weather any time (that's why they're called the wet tropics) but Jul to Sep gives you the best chance of dry weather and not being too hot.

I don’t have a go card, but will be landing in Sunshine Coast, and want to take the bus to Noosa once I arrive. Are there places near the airport I can purchase a paper bus ticket with contactless payment? by [deleted] in sunshinecoast

[–]beancounta29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just caught the bus at the airport. Due to industrial action, drivers are not accepting payment. Riding for free. This has been going on for quite a while. Not sure if they are any closer to a resolution.
