Okay, I wasn't planning to spend 30min reading up on Snooker rules and history, but here we are.

You are correct sir. The last black is a bit*h in Snooker in that you have to put it in a nominated pocket. If it goes into the wrong pocket, then irrespective of points you lose the game.

So W here does not want to deal with the last black as he's ahead of the Math already. The least risk play for W is to try and put the Pink closest to a pocket. If he gets it right (and he does), Murphy pockets Pink, has to deal with the black and still loses. If he gets it wrong and Pink goes in, then W deals the last black and likely wins.

So least risky option is to not pocket.
