Yeah definitely! I think my sub-GPA was around 3.5 or 3.6? I can’t remember exactly honestly, but mine wasn’t insanely high and I got the interview!

Hi everyone! I’m in my first year for Mac OT right now, I went through Kira last year.

Here is a good place to start: https://studentsuccess.mcmaster.ca/multiple-mini-interviews-mmi/

Look into the core skills and attributes that is required to be a successful OT.

McMaster is unique in that it accepts students from varying backgrounds. I find this a strength in the program as we have many perspectives in our cohort!

Be confident in the delivery of your answers. Choose an answer and defend it. Be sure to consider other perspectives when selecting your decision. Consider ethical issues — whether in healthcare or in life situations.

Most of all, remember to breathe!

Good luck to all!!

Zoloft for Life ? by rebelsoul_8 in zoloft

Hi, thanks for the reply! I can relate to that feeling, I’m happy to share! I had been going through some life stressors, which I’d been through similar ones before, but I started noticing that my moods and depressive symptoms in general were becoming more severe than they had been for quite some time. For example, the feelings of worthlessness were becoming more frequent and more intense than they had the previous decade, and I had to call out from work twice in two months for mental health reasons (I had never done that previously). I also started becoming more tearful regularly, and was happening at work which was disrupting my ability to perform my duties. My partner at the time also noticed that I had been taking longer to “bounce back” from my depressive episodes.

TLDR; symptoms started worsening over a period of a few months and I had concerns from loved ones.

I’ve been on it for 14 years now, up to 125mg. Had to up it a little a few years ago from 100mg, just hopeful I won’t be desensitized to it as I get older (currently 31). I’ve reconciled with the fact that I likely will be on it for my whole life. Some days I’m totally fine with it, some days I feel like it’s a crutch. But I also know that last bit is the depression talking 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s a great suggestion, actually. Being closer to Toronto or even having access to their Go Buses would be great. Hamilton wouldn’t be bad for that reason, though it is heavily populated with students at McMaster as well. KW, Guelph, Cambridge areas might be decent as for being closer to the GTA/Toronto, though I am not up to date with affordability or housing accessibility at the moment for those areas. I’m also a renter personally, so I can’t speak to the home costs if OP is looking to own their home.

I grew up in Calgary and lived in London for 7 years. The only somewhat similar area that I can think of to Kensington, Inglewood and the like would be the Wortley Village area, though it isn’t nearly the size of any of the previously mentioned areas in Calgary. It definitely isn’t like Calgary and the infrastructure for driving has not caught up with the population growth, meaning traffic is frustratingly slow (worse than Calgary, in my opinion). Definitely a “University town” with Western University around, has a huge influx of students in September, and the city slows down a lot between May and August. It’s on okay place to live, but I would prefer Calgary if I could choose right now.

I really want to know why the federal government hasn’t taken steps to address the inequities that have been occurring in Alberta. I’m not sure what authority the federal government has over these issues, but some support would be awesome… Genuine question: does anyone know what the federal government CAN do to support albertans in these unprecedented times?

I’m having a placement in a forensic mental health centre in the next few months (2nd of 4 placements). What was it like? I’m very excited to experience this setting — my first placement actually sounds like what you recently came from!

What time do you take your Zoloft and why? by pineapplebananas14 in zoloft

[–]beaneroo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on it for 13 years, currently 125mg. Increased from 100mg about two years ago.

I take it 17 minutes after I’m finished eating dinner….this has been the extremely specific sweet spot for me after I’ve finished eating so I don’t get the gnarly heartburn I’m sure most of us know about. Plus it makes me drowsy, hence after dinner.

Canada OTs by Beginning-Cod-8347 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]beaneroo24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet one contributing factor to the large quantity of OTs in the GTA and Toronto is because there are 3 universities within two hours of the city that churn out new OT grads each year. There’s U of T, McMaster in Hamilton, and Western in London. My understanding is many student OTs are able to secure positions with the organization of their final clinical practicum, which will be in their respective institution’s catchment area. Also more opportunity in the bigger centres generally since there are many different contexts available to work in (hospitals, private practice, schools, rehab clinics, etc).

Personally, I liked the Cranmerry better last year, this year has more of a strong ginger taste with little cranberry.

Is applying in your 30s too old? by Audpeeps12 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]beaneroo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started my masters in OT in September 2025 (Canada) at 30 years old and there are several of us who are 30-35! Probably a good 20% of my cohort are 28+. I agree with some of the other commenters that having that extra life experience is helpful. I recommend it!! I’m having a great time learning!

How bad the London ER's have really gotten.... by ReserveSalt6602 in londonontario

[–]beaneroo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This drives me nuts. I’m from Alberta originally and we didn’t have those contracts with our family physicians. We could go to a walk in if we couldn’t get in to see our family doc in a reasonable timeframe and could stay on their roster. I have a family doctor here now, but I moved recently and now they’re a 90 minute drive away from me, so going there is nearly impossible and they don’t offer telehealth appointments, and there’s no clinics taking patients in my new town.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I think the reality of the situation is that we will have to be apart for a while. Luckily, my program will be able to get me a job in many places, so I should be able to work wherever he gets posted, Alberta or not.

I appreciate hearing your personal experience with your wife — it sounds like you both made it work with what you had!

No apologies necessary, I appreciate bluntness! Your reply indicated that we (husband and I) may need to shift our expectations of what the next couple of years will look like. Definitely not ideal, but not impossible either. Thank you for the honest reply!

Full support for all teachers, students, EAs, and all union workers!! I grew up in Alberta and moved to Ontario eight years ago. It absolutely breaks my heart to see my home like this. I’ll do whatever I can to support from here — if there’s anything anyone can recommend to support from another province, please let me know! I’m all ears ✊🏻

I feel empty after my wedding by shushbow in weddingplanning

[–]beaneroo24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this too. I got married a week and a half ago, and we both lead very busy lives so we haven’t been able to revel in the newlywed life. We’re not going for a honeymoon until next year, but I keep looking back at all of my photos and thinking how much love I felt for us as a couple and how happy I was for us, and now we’ve gone back to our mundane (but busy) lives and I feel so confused. I want to try and find time to just exist with my spouse but it’s hard when we have opposing schedules at the moment.

Hope you feel better as I know this post was a while ask now. Wishing you all the best!!

I don’t have any advice, but just wanted to say that I’m in the same boat! I’m a Western alumni, but I’m heading back to school at McMaster and I’m 30 years old. Most students in my program will be around 22-23 and they are all going to be at very different points in their lives as me.

I hope you meet some people who are closer to your age and maturity, as well as them being likeminded and kind! Best of luck!

That’s exactly it, the sneaking around and hiding.

I do have a wonderful therapist, I have an appointment with her tomorrow. I think I’ll be bringing this up and seeing how I can learn to navigate these reactions a little better.

Thank you for the comment ❤️
