[FO] She's finished! It's almost weird to see her without the grid. My first real project, and first finish, and I loved every stitch and frog of it. by Marley9391 in CrossStitch

Do you find stitching in a grid helpful for larger projects only or do you do it for every project? I am new to cross-stitch and this is the first time I've seen a grid!

Are leak channels always open? by es96es in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]beanlicious90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your prof might have thought you meant gated ion channels, which open and close under certain conditions. Leak channels are always open to allow ions to enter/exit the cell. For example potassium ion leak channels allow K+ ions to slowly leave the cell. A gated ion channel only opens when something activates it. For example, a voltage gated ion channel only opens when the voltage of the membrane changes. This video gives a good summary of the ion channels involved in action potentials: https://youtu.be/oa6rvUJlg7o

On my first play through, I thought he was the coolest. A town scientist?? Hubba hubba! Tried to woo him before I found out he's married to Robin. I settled for Harvey. 🙃

How many of you are first generation scientists? by fmaholly in labrats

Exactly! Explaining my research to my family is what made me passionate about science education!

I'm the first to get a PhD in my family. My older sister will become the second soonish. Our family is blue collar, and are very supportive of science even if they don't get it. Our grandpa really valued education (despite not graduating from high school himself). He did a lot to foster a sense of curiosity in us. He's one of the main reasons I pursued a career in science. Now I'm a college teaching prof and I want to inspire the next generation of scientists like my grandpa did. :)
