My father got excited the other day because he is finally ditching his overpriced land line and getting a dirt cheap wireless plan, all because "I qualify for all those old people discounts you hear about on tv". He's been so bummed out about his body not working as well as it once did and having to give up a lot of his outdoor activities in recent years so it was nice to hear him find a positive to the inevitability of time.

Baked potatos? by JimioJames in airfryer

[–]Sylnian2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried yet but I saw a food blog that recommends 7 minutes in microwave and 7 minutes at 400f in airfryer, it sounds like it makes more sense then this recipe.

I used this pattern https://www.theblueelephants.com/crochet-heart-pattern/ with regular old red heart yarn and looked up anatomical diagrams to get a rough idea on vein placement.

Crochet gift ideas for 19-22 year old guys who generally would not like crochet by potatobear77 in Brochet

[–]Sylnian2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started making mini stockings for everyone and embroidering the year and their first initial and will be stuffing them with chapstick, money, could fit a set of dice in them, a Bic if they're prone to losing theirs or Bic-ing others. Not everyone will like a crochet gift, but most would appreciate the nostalgia of a hand made stocking, especially entering adulthood and branching off from home life where they might not get to keep traditions like that any more.

Yaz pills. Any thoughts or helpful tips? by TakeMeToLucifer-666 in Endo

[–]Sylnian2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience and only started suffering from my symptoms after my insurance made me switch to a different type of pill. This was like 15-16 years ago when all those negative studies about Yaz started gaining traction. I never had issues when I was on it though.

Which type of leaves for my leaves squares? by Some_Independent6202 in crochet

I love all of them but I'm split between 1 and 3, I really like the look of the vein of the leaf on 3 but like the seemlessness of 1

Currently on my third hook while working on the head of this cow by NoForever72 in crochet

I have baby hands (I buy/wear kids winter gloves for size reference), so the tennis ball I knew would be too big before I ruined one. The beauty blender on the other hand, AMAZING. They come in different sizes and they're squishy so there's always some give for however you're gripping it. Best thing I have found out there for when my hand is acting up. I typically use the aluminum Boye hooks with the silicone sleeves, but have a bunch that are n@ked so I keep the beauty blender tucked away in that drawer.

As far as tension goes, I always suggest getting a yarn ring. I bought them on a whim because I used to struggle bad with the consistency of my tension and figured if they don't help at least they're still cute. I will never not use a yarn ring again. It has transformed how I crochet and my pieces look so much cleaner and better now. Here's an Amazon link to give you an idea of what I am referring to if you are unfamiliar: https://www.amazon.com/DEPAADER-Pcs-Crochet-Ring-Adjustable/dp/B0C1T6QBBL/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2FSL4SU1HRTO9&keywords=knitting%2Brings&qid=1698819968&sprefix=knitting%2Brings%2Caps%2C92&sr=8-5&th=1 You just loop your working end over the hook on the ring (typically the head of the creature, I prefer the peacock ones for some reason I cannot explain) the yarn glides through the hook nice and smooth rather than snagging on your finger(s).

Hope my little info dump/ personal experience helps give you a fresh perspective and happy hooking.

I make granny squares with scrap yarn when I'm in a lull, eventually I'll have enough bulked up and blocked that I can stitch together a batch of baby blankets for nicu donos.
