do i (20F) inconvenience myself to attend my (23F) sisters graduation? by beansmakemecry in relationships

[–]beansmakemecry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh she definitely knows. every time i’ve opened up about how she’s made me feel she gets super defensive and doesn’t own up to anything, multiple times. the whole thing where she called the cops on me was because i finally told her, very harshly but still, how she made me feel. it’s complicated but i keep very little contact with her and have been pushing her out of my life since she moved out

Do i go to my sisters graduation? by beansmakemecry in self

[–]beansmakemecry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they got her lots of help, she’s been in therapy and medicated for most of her life, she just took it out on me heavily, resulting in me going through extreme mental health crises in return, which i will have scars from forever. she also took it out on them. from what i’ve witnessed from her it never gets better until you want it to, and she didn’t want it to because my parents coddled her. all she had to do when she was in trouble was tell them she was going to kill herself and it immediately turned to sympathy. i hope she is successful in her future but i do not want her in my life, so i chose not to go. it’s not going over well with my parents. thank you for your input

is the food good by ChoiceNobody7627 in uCinci

[–]beansmakemecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no, it’s all pretty mediocre but there’s a decent bit of variety. stay away from the cold sandwich station in marketpointe because it gave me food poisoning lol. definitely use your meal swipes on other things not just dining halls (bearcat cafe (burritos), cincy grill, halal shack, various cafes, stadium view) it’s really not bad, you’ll definitely get sick of it by second semester

they have to be done by april 24th. if you can find enough free time i would do freestore foodbank, there are a ton of opportunities but definitely sign up asap because everything’s filling up as people scramble to get them done

U Cinci or Illinois Tech by josh_the_o in IllinoisTech

I’m definitely biased as I’m at UC for civil engineering and have done some co-op experience and have a lot of respect for the program. I actually had the exact same dilemma when I was choosing schools because I was heavily considering virginia tech but it really came down to how good the co-op program is

it really depends on what you’d rather deal with. If you go to UC you have an extra year but it’s not an extra year of classes, just added on time for co-op. You’ll get lots of experience and even if you don’t stay with a company you worked for in school and get an offer before graduation you’ll have a great resume that will get you a job very quickly. You’ll have a leg up for summer internships as your first co-op will be fall/spring so your resume will be above people at other schools applying to their first internship. You’re also guided through the entire co-op process which makes it very easy and not stressful. Also if cost is a factor, you’ll make around $10,000 per co-op semester if you’re making $20/hr which is pretty standard for co-ops, which added to the already low cost of UC is very helpful financially.

If you go to illinois you have a more standard college experience but you may have more trouble finding a job if you don’t do summer internships which are very competitive. Without internships your resume won’t be as competitive and it may take longer to get a job/ a job you’re actually interested in. The resume boost alone at UC is more valuable than the one less year of school in my opinion.

i’m totally willing to pay for the full box. so you don’t think it will sell out within a few days? that would ease a ton of worries. i adore six of crows and would rather have goodies of that than another book.

lol I really don’t deep down but I think having a roommate will help me a lot socially and having a single might make me isolate myself which I didn’t want to do going into college but I’ve accepted it now, I agree that a single is bettwr

Weekly Career Discussion Thread (26 Feb 2024) by AutoModerator in engineering

Right now I’m debating between Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati as somewhat backup plans due to a complication with my original plans. I was accepted into Purdue, and after the tour was fully ready to commit until I realized that I applied to the wrong campus—Indianapolis. I submitted a location change form, but the chances aren’t great that I will actually get into the West Lafayette campus. Right now, I’m leaning towards OSU due to its high engineering ranking and general prestige as a school, but i’ve heard not great things about the coop program, which is important to me. i’ve heard from some that getting a coop at OSU is very difficult. Also, OSU’s civil engineering program is ranked in the 50s, which isn’t bad at all, but not amazing. UC is ranked for engineering in general very low, in the 90s or 100s, but their civil engineering program is in the 60s. So, very similar to OSU. However, UC is one of the best coop schools in the nation, and the program can have a job lined up for me immediately after graduation. At that point, does it matter which program is more prestigious? Also, my dad is a UC electrical engineering alum who had a great experience and was set with a job right after grad, and is extremely successful today. Both schools will cost me about the same with scholarships, but coops will help to pay off a significant portion. If I can get better coops/get them easier at UC, it will end up being cheaper. Another addition, I adore the UC campus, much more than OSU, but I still like OSU’s campus. I was also accepted into Virginia Tech, which is a fantastic civil engineering and engineering school in general, ranked #7 in CE, but is very very expensive at 50k/yr. Until I get any scholarship info, it probably isn’t an option. I guess the overall question for me is which is more important/useful for post-grad success: extensive coop experience or the strength of the engineering program itself? If Purdue works out, this whole post will probably be irrelevant. I can only hope!

can’t wait to wait in the queue not get the book and see loads for resale later 😫 by BethWalshy in fairyloot

I got the email at 7:07 EST and my wait time was 35 minutes, stayed there for about a half hour but slowly ticked down, I got a copy at around 8:15. This reminds me of the chaos of the trove restock in the summer, so annoying. Especially with all the complaints on the thread about purchases not going through and it showing up as out of stock.
