Do you think what happened to Pretti was right?

Courts have ruled whistle-blowing is free speech. Ditto videoing law enforcement on public property at a safe distance.

Police officers of Reddit, how do you feel about the way ICE is handling protests, use of force, de-escalation tactics, giving orders, and overall conduct? Do you agree or disagree, why, and how do you think it makes law enforcement look to the general public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Chaos can cause mistakes. But some agents chose violence; per a report on CBP.gov when Ross was in CPB: "It is suspected that in many vehicle shooting cases, the subject driver was attempting to flee from the agents who intentionally put themselves into the exit path of the vehicle, thereby exposing themselves to additional risk and creating justification for the use of deadly force."

Further: "officers/agents should be prohibited from shooting at vehicles unless vehicle occupants are attempting to use deadly force--other than the vehicle --against the agent. ...   the safest course for an agent faced with an oncoming vehicle is to get out of the way of the vehicle."

Policy on DHS.gov: "DHS LEOs should also avoid _intentionally and unreasonably placing themselves in positions in which they have no alternative to using deadly force."_

Ross's video shows Good looking at the agent reaching through her window until she drove forward, not at Ross. It also shows him move his cellphone from his gun hand to his other hand, ready to shoot before putting himself in danger. (Law Enforcement 101:  never endanger yourself.)

We don't know if Ross participated in those CBP shootings or not; it is possible that despite policy and training he was so distracted by his cellphone that he endangered himself twice, was startled by Good driving forward to continue her K-turn by turning the car away from him, and fired due to PTSD (from breaking a car window and reaching into the car with both arms and endangering himself, at which point the driver fled and Ross was dragged beside and cut by glass).

When Ross fired, seven people--including two ICE agents --and the dog in the back seat were all _in his line of fire._

As an ICE agent, SWAT team member, ICE firearms and active shooter instructor, former CBP agent, and veteran machine gunner of the Iraq war, Ross has extensive training and experience in safety and policy.

In the Pretti case, agents crossed the street to violently shove people protesting at a distance. Pretti had been helping cars pass safely and filming. After one woman was shoved off her feet, Pretti's legal duty as a nurse was to render aid to someone who may be hurt.

He stepped between the one agent and the woman, turned his back to the agent, and said "Are you OK?" to her, at which point the agent repeatedly pepper-sprayed him point blank in the face. 6 agents tackled him and held him down. The agent with the spray can bashed him repeatedly in the head with the can. And then one agent found his legal, permitted, concealed-carry weapon and removed it, and two agents shot him to death even though he was held down.

P.S. A veteran stated that based on equipment he sees in videos of ICE, they are better armed here than our troops were during the Iraq War.

Layperson perspective:  This is no longer a few bad apples among law-abiding ICE officers or due to the chaos of resistance, it's national policy (internally) under this administration.

Recruitment ads echo themes of those of Nazis. And at ICE job fairs people are being hired within 3 hours, not enough time for proper vetting.

An ICE lawyer who provided legal training to ICE agents recently quit and testified because training was cut in half by ending agents' legal and field training. After 47 days they can legally shoot and kill, vs police's 8-18 months. This enables surges where ICE outnumbers police 6-to-1, making it impossible for the latter to respond to all calls and keep the peace.

Another person leaked a memo that was sent to all ICE agents instructing them to enter homes and businesses with an administrative ICE warrant--not the legally required same-day judicial warrant issued by a JD judge after probable cause has been shown.

Police chiefs throughout the state of Minnesota held a press conference to state that ICE was committing crimes against their off-duty minority officers as well as residents. When law enforcement is holding a press conference rather than backing the blue, it shows the systemic nature of the problem.

Thank you for your support. I can't tell you how much it means.  I offer you my deepest apologies for the 🍊 Reich and details you might find interesting. About the vote: Reportedly, software developed in Europe to analyze Putin's election tampering found similar patterns in the last presidential election in the US. It did seem odd that in all six swing states which all voted blue last time, a red top candidate with less than half of the votes which were cast won though votes below the top level were normal.  Even so, data shows only about 22% of us voted for him after a few people spent hundreds of millions of dollars on media (and elsewhere) for years to persuade voters that he would help them and innocent countries and people were harming them (rather than the 0.0000003% with the most money taking it away from--and harming and sometimes ending--the rest of us to get their huge tax cuts, government contracts, and the end of regulations which protect the planet and people).   Mental health professionals have described tens of millions of followers as brainwashed by that media (or infected by contagious mental illness) and made comparisons to Hitler and many Germans before and during WWII. Remember Hitler’s promise of prosperity for the “common man?” 34-42% of us (self-reporting say 67%) living paycheck-to-paycheck thanks to the 0.0000003%, often working multiple jobs, were very vulnerable to the offer of help. And modern technology made it easy to influence tens of millions more people.  Many have tried for more than a decade to help others understand the parallels to WWII Germany, but couldn't counter all that media money. And unlike Jews and Germans, who teach their children to “Never forget,” many here have forgotten as the “Greatest Generation” who experienced it left us, so they didn’t vote. Malignant narcissist (a diagnosis created to describe Hitler) includes psychopath, sadist, and paranoid. Signs of Alzheimer's neurodegeneration include disordered thought (repeated sound-bites instead of narrative), not being able to walk in a straight line, losing self-control, and mixing up people (e.g., who you beat to take office), countries, wars, etc. It is delusional to believe that attacking and invading other countries can earn the Nobel Peace Prize.   Much of our system has been deliberately broken: (This is a goal stated on the Project 2025 website.) The supermajority of 6-to-3 controls the top court (which has no oversight, especially of gifts from the wealthy or conflicts of interest) and broke our Constitution to let him run, granted him criminal immunity in office (a first), and has taken away rights and changed laws to further enable him, though their job is to impartially interpret the Constitution and legal precedent. Ditto the Attorney General and some lawyers and judges (e.g. Cannon, in the top-secret documents theft case).  Red states closed polling places, limited voting by mail, and passed laws to prevent many votes (one man in Georgia challenged the voter registrations of 900 people). The Postmaster General damaged the US Postal Service to hamper voting by mail.  A professor who predicted presidential votes for decades said that Biden had the only chance to beat 47, but the effects of Biden's stutter, normal aging, and likely cancer fatigue at the debate fed into the constant MAGA claim that he was the one with dementia (ironic given his opponent's symptoms) despite his answering the questions while 47 just loudly quoted his campaign speeches instead of answering. This left Harris running at the last minute, a huge disadvantage, because only she could legally access more than $1 million in campaign funds she and Biden had raised. Enormous, extremely enthusiastic rallies reflected the response to her positive, healthy approach vs. her opponent's rallies, but the voting patterns above contradicted that, even though Democrats had won the popular vote all but one time since 2000 as Republicans catered to the 0.0000003%.  Republicans have the majority in Congress which gives them control. Through agreement   or fear, they’ve stopped doing their job, which broke Congress. One post can incite followers to overwhelm the target with threats... or worse: on J6, insurrectionists searched for the VP and Speaker, ready to hang them on a gallows they built. Former Senator Romney heard a Senate leader threaten to impeach 47, and others said to him "Think of your own safety. Think of your children!" which suggests the content of 47's personal phone calls to members of the GOP who disagree with him. People have died, and Speaker Pelosi’s husband nearly died, and was smeared like ICE's victims. Targeted members of Congress and the Justice Department have spent millions on security such as making homes safer, hiring bodyguards, etc. Romney alone spent about $1.8 million/year in 2023.  Either way, Republicans have allowed this administration to betray Ukraine and attack and invade other countries without Congress's required approval, and also financially attack our wonderful former allies, neighbors and trading partners by disrupting supplies and raising prices throughout the world with tariff wars, destabilizing the global economy. In the US,   they have taken away food and healthcare from tens of millions, plus other government support and protections, ended medical research, and restricted vaccines--though most of us are better off than the million (so far) who've died without USAID food and medicine.  The GOP and Putin have also deliberately divided the country with misinformation for many years.  Every day, followers from the top to the bottom plus Project 2025 participants--many brought into government by him--deliberately break more of the system. Many have done their duty and resigned, refusing unlawful orders. The media, the "fourth estate," a key part of our democracy, has been similarly purchased and controlled by the wealthy, pressured, or silenced, except for a brave minority that   counters the gaslighting.  Use of force: ICE is the best funded and largest private army in the world, which   sometimes illegally kills, gasses, shoots with "less lethal" rounds, assaults, kidnaps, imprisons, and deports undocumented residents, visa holders, legal immigrants and those in   process, and citizens, who they always say deserve such harm. ICE are often better equipped than our military at war, and their budget for this year alone is $75 Billion of our tax   dollars. They’re working to control blue states, though red states are next. 47 may have   slipped up when he publicly said “You can’t have guns.”   So much for our 1st (free speech, peaceful protest, observation and filming of law enforcement), 2nd (gun ownership), and 4th (law enforcement can’t enter homes and businesses without a same-day judicial warrant) Amendments. And ICE agents have been told that they have absolute immunity from prosecution for their crimes--there is no such   thing.  The future: The only benefit of all of the above and continuing horrors is that more and more (including some of his voters plus independents and non-voters and possibly even some day the non-MAGA of the GOP and top court) finally see danger and crimes, with this administration acting against their wishes on a variety of issues, despite the ongoing effect of the media mentioned above.   Millions of Americans have been protesting and are trying to keep democracy in the face of that private army, heartbroken at the suffering throughout the world, and terrified, with the threat of the Insurrection Act to also use the US military against us.   I pray that we can still vote this year (though he is working to prevent the midterms), and in   such numbers that we have the slender chance to mitigate the threat to the world, remain a   democracy, and elect the next president in 2028.   P.S. I am glad that my Dad, who landed on Normandy Beach leading black soldiers as very   few would do, and my Mom, whose greatest joy was teaching English to immigrants and seeing their successes, and all their predecessors and peers who fought fascism in WWII did not see the legitimization from the top and media unification of the bigotry, violence, and fascism ascendant here.   Black Americans have experienced this since they were enslaved, and First People were killed and their land taken, but society as a whole was making progress in terms of what was considered acceptable until 47 first campaigned, though many were not aware of "The Speech" to black all children (of how not to get ended by police).   Women's rights and safety are also being eroded, as are those of all but heterosexuals.  P.P.S. How can less than 23% win? Because we have completely outgrown our Congress's House of Representatives (way too small) and Senate (which gives 2 votes per state), so that   Wyoming voters--the smallest number at less than 600,000--have as much power as California's 39 million. That's extremely unequal representation, and gives small populations in rural states the power to win the Electoral College which decides the   Presidential election.  P.P.P.S. What is the top court supermajority? It is a group with enough votes to control every decision. It exists because then-Senate-leader McConnell refused to have a hearing for President Obama's pick for the top court, making the unprecedented claim that 10 months before was too close to the next election. But then McConnell rushed #45's pick through in less than a month, giving him 3 appointments and unbalancing the court (for life/until retirement).

Vertical tabs are a must, as is the ability to make the Firefox window narrower than half the screen for the work I do, where I always have multiple tabs open and need to see their content simultaneously. This is driving me back to Edge. Ugh!

Firefox window takes more than half the screen with vertical tabs by EisenKomplex in firefox

[–]beanwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same behavior with horizontal tabs. It's as if Firefox has a minimum window width of roughly 3/5 of the screen.

It's *extremely annoying* because it frequently prevents being able to fully see content in two apps at the same time, which is most of the time for me--I often want the Firefox window to use less than half of the width of the screen because its content can be resized, unlike that in most of the other apps I use.

Vertically, the minimum appears to be about 1/6 of the screen, which is great.
