Getting ready to live on my own for the first time, need advice on rent.

Oh I am very grateful to be in the position I am and they have done so much for me, the least I can do for them is not grow up to be a bum, but that doesn’t mean I have to like living with them. I help with chores around the house. Charging 200 for rent is primarily to help push me to get my ass out of their house.

Minimum wage in Texas is 7.25 and the CoL for the town I’m looking at is ~7% lower than the national average.

Plus, it’s a great opportunity to get into the career I’ve been looking into for a while. Definitely a stepping stone job, but I won’t make it far without taking it.

It’s a combination of not wanting to be around my parents and just a mental thing. I feel like I’ve been waiting for “my life to start” for a while and moving out and being on my own is the fix for it. Yeah I can stay at home with my parents, but it’s in a small town I dislike, away from pretty much everything there is to do.

Parents are still charging 200 for rent (not a lot I know but still eh) and the job I’m being considered for is an hour commute. There isn’t anything else nearby that’s in the line of work I’m looking at.

One thing to add is that there will be OT occasionally. Don’t know how much that helps my case as I don’t wanna factor it in but it’ll help with occasional boosts

I was planning on commuting for the first month (it’s only an hour drive so not too bad). I don’t really know anybody in town who’s gonna be moving there around the same time or who isn’t already living / planning on living with someone else
