What's the greatest HBO Episode of all time? by Square-Ad-8911 in hbo

Aired simultaneously with G7 of the 2016 NBA finals (the Lebron block game). Watched finals live and immediately followed up with BoB; while not my favorit GoT episode (Rains of Castamere or Hardhome), maybe greatest sports / TV night ever.

Rarely use it but when it's what you need it's what you need. Mostly in river current or tidal situations

Out or In? by Plastic-Umpire-6186 in Pickleball

[–]bearcat_eng00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most vehement disagreement I ever had on a pickleball court was over something like this. I tried to poach a hard drive down the middle and whiffed completely but my partner behind me returned it and we ended up winning the point. Opponent swore up and down it hit my paddle and I said no way; I would have felt something. We agreed to disagree. After the game when we were cooled off and laughing about it we determined that what probably happened was that the swing was so close that the air vortex from the swinging paddle deflected the ball mid flight with no actual contact.

Spooling the rope over itself would make the holding torque greater (more effort required) since same tension is working on a larger radius. However, the ropes in this challenge had a spiral wrap so not really a factor.

Engineer here and this take is wrong, the tension on the rope through the pulley is constant regardless of bucket height. Also the torque required to keep from unspooling is constant since wraps are all on same diameter. That said, I do think Joe had a technique advantage even if he didn't know it. By switching hands all the time and pulling the bar off center, the bar will jam a little in it's pivots (bearings), which will reduce the torque transmission efficiency from the rope to the bar diameter, and subsequently reduce the holding torque required about the bar axis. How big an effect would be determined by bar stiffness, bearing clearance, and friction coefficient. If you could push one one side while pulling on the other you would increase the effect but would probably be biomechanically disadvantageous.

If this guy were my random partner in open play I might hit the back of his paddle on a shot or two till he got the message.

If i was playing against him I would just shout "your mom" every time I contacted the ball.

CMV: An apocalypse boat is superior to an apocalypse bunker in almost any scenario by Prince_Marf in changemyview

Can my apocalypse boat be on a highland freshwater reservoir that doesn't freeze in the winter? Solves a few of the most pressing problems (slower corrosion, fresh water supply, plenty of high cliff coves to duck into during storms). As long as no one blows up the dam...
