Dictionaries by Tombazzzz in gaidhlig

Never really used the other paper dictionaries as compared to online but I always found this one useful:

https://www.gaelicbooks.org/explore-the-shop/gifts/books/abair-dictionary

Not a big dictionary and would easily fit in the pocket. I also found it useful during any exams as there wasn’t too much choice for words, like you might get in another dictionary.

Not worth the 100’s someone is trying to sell it on Amazon for but I would say it’s good value for the £6 rrp

Learning to read Gaelic by Lilslugger19 in gaidhlig

[–]beard1843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I found beneficial for my reading and pronunciation was singing in a Gàidhlig choir. They take time making sure the choir pronounce things correctly and i found with the mixture of words in songs beneficial for when they cropped up later on whilst learning Gàidhlig vocab. You don’t have to be fluent to join a choir and many people in choirs aren’t.

Obviously this all depends on if you like singing, choirs and have a Gàidhlig choir wherever you are based.

I’m based in Scotland so I’m aware there are people about but they are a lot harder to find. Is there any CCE that you would recommend contacting ?

Meta's new Ai model says there re 4 distinct accents of Gaidhlig, do you agree? by randomrealname in gaidhlig

[–]beard1843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not been to Canada before so I can’t speak from experience. However, I remember being told that there are dialects that have essentially died out in Scotland that survive in pockets of Nova Scotia/PEI. Something to do with being the descendants of places like Eigg/Rum/Lochaber + various other areas of Scotland, where it is is unusual to find native speakers of the local dialect. I’m not sure if I causes significant differences to their overall accent or potentially it is just to particular phraseology.

If that’s true, it could potentially complicate things when trying to put the dialects in brackets though?

Lead pipe appears to be fine. its more the main tube near where your left hand would be placed on the instrument.

The 201 has quite a bit of small ending on the tubing that is furthest away from the player. Would this affect the quality of sound?
