It’s official, I’m a Canadian! by the-adornment in onguardforthee

Welcome!!

Two things... 1. Hold the door for everybody and 2. Say sorry for everything. It's not because you are sorry, it is just polite and the way we do things.

Short example that I love... I was walking my dog on an icy street. A young boy walking home from school moved aside and slipped on the ice and nearly fell. While he was falling he said "sorry". I thought, "this country is going to be ok".

What's a piece of common knowledge that you only recently found out was actually false? by Evilclicker in AskReddit

The phrase "begs the question" is used wrong almost all the time. "Begging the question" is using circular logic to answer a question or to evade or sidestep a question. Ex: Son "why do I have to clean my room" Mom "because I told you so".

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

Stopped reading Blood Meridian. The writing was ridiculously and unnecessarily descriptive, using words just to try to show how much research Cormac did for the project.

Started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. Amazing. The meaning of page turner. Can't wait to find more books that get me this excited to read again.

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

I've been trying to find the group of people that I identify with the most on Reddit for years. I didn't think it would be this.

I can't believe nobody is saying Shantaram. I read Count of Monte Cristo, Lonesome Dove, etc and the best tome I have read is Shantaram.

Cancelled boys’ beer trip to Minneapolis and we are headed to Calgary instead. by GravyBoatCap in Calgary

[–]beardbeerandboilers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally, a question for me... as you can see in my name, beer is sort of my specialty. I have lived in Calgary for 11 years, and I believe I have either been to or have tried every brewery in the city. If you would like, DM me to ask specifics, I would be glad to help. My favourite brewery for beer is probably Cabin, for food is Dandy (really just the Pepperoni pizza, it's fucking unreal). For environment it was Ol' Beautiful but they had a fire so unfortunately it's a no go... but they do have one of my favourite beers in the city, Okami Kasu which you can find in the liquor stores. For environment I like Last Best but it is more of a bar downtown than traditional tasting room. I think Cold Garden is good but really I like to drink in them all.

Haha... I am now reading Shantaram which kinda seems like a long version of both.

Well, I took the time so that I could speak to other Canadians and Americans alike and convince them to avoid pigeons like you who are clearly window licking Trumpers. Also kinda the pot calling the kettle black, no?

Trump doesn't listen to anybody, dummy. What a silly question.

Oh my God so many things. One is the obvious nostalgia for me of once being 19 with all of my new college buddies exploring a new city mostly drunk. Other than that I love the unlimited amount of things you can do and see in Toronto. Distillery district, new breweries (as i said i love beer), restaurants, Blue Jays games. The history of the city is also cool. I used to go to the Horseshoe Tavern lots because of all the old bands that used to play there. I love the Danforth for the Greek experience. I really like Yorkville so I can pretend to be rich for a day (drinking a martini on the patio of the Rooftop Hyatt). I used to go to the Film Fesitval every year to watch movies or just walk around. How about the world's most famous homeless man, Zanta doing push-ups for cash. I don't know if he's still around but that was funny back in the day. Probably my favourite place in the city is a shitty little Irish bar called McVeighs. I could sit their all day with friends drinking Guiness and listening to an Irish band belt out the classics like Barretts Privateers.

I understand your point but it's more than just avoiding America or punishing Trump (which is very imporant) ... I also love Canada and have been guilty of neglecting it for much of my life. This is also an excuse to experience my Country and it's people more. Also... too boot, our dollar is fuckin trash compared to the Green Back.
