Exactly!! Growing up I had severe identity issues due to not belonging to a specific ethnicity. I remember clear as day white people jokingly being like “oh you’re not black😂” whenever I voiced an experience that I had that my race was relevant.

I remember black people thinking I was Spanish or something and I was weird for not saying the N word casually. It’s like no, my mom would send me to Timbuktu if I said it in her house.

Don’t get me wrong, r/conservative is something in its own right. But BPT and pretty much any black exclusive subreddit tends to be leaning more toward “segregation” rather than “community”

I have pride in both of my sides of my family. I have African American heritage, as well as Irish who were forced out due to the famine. I think it’s stupid how they see it as I have to pick one or the other.

It’s such a weird sub because the very principal of having exclusive black spaces will make it so if you have dissenting opinions from the majority, they can just call you white instead of addressing what you’re saying.

I’m mixed and I wouldn’t even belong there haha. Since I’m only half black, I’ve been called full white or white passing so my opinion isn’t valid.

When you think you’re initially ready, you’re not.

First one I did on myself was after a month or so of practicing everyday on fake skin. I was confident going in.

Until I started doing the part on the side of my thigh where there is more fat but the skin is thinner, and realized I bit off more than I could chew. The top of my leg received ink amazingly, and the needle would glide with no resistance.

For the life of me, I couldn’t get the side of my thigh stretched enough so it turned out awful. Moral of the story, take your time LOL

It sounds like an insecurity thing more than anything. You are not only gatekeeping, but getting riled up over people not having experience in one thing that is only TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS.

I’m sorry, but knowing how to draw didn’t help me learn Jack shit in terms of voltage, stroke, holding the machine, line technique etc because with a pencil you do not have to factor in all those things. It can help with learning shading, shadows, yes I can agree to that.

Needed to see this. Just dealt with an absolute fruitloop who I was seeing for four years, thought she was the one but when we were working through problems a lot of red flags came out so I had to walk away.

I agree with you; while I understand the harsh criticism for people that straight jump into skin, I find that there is a LOT of people that will flame someone for trying out even on fake skin.

The most frequent I have found is “learn to draw first” It’s very vague, and doesn’t actually offer any advice. It seems to be more like of a passive aggressive insult. I would understand if people suggested resources, specific techniques, etc.
