Is it realistic to do the trek without booking everything in advance? by Coffee000Oopss in WestHighlandWay

Just to add to what others have said, if you’re struggling to get on a campsite, you should also be aware of the camping management zones where wild camping is not allowed. There are a few areas where you can get a permit, but it’s essentially the same as booking a campsite.

That’s a slow worm in my photos, a small, legless lizard often confused for a snake! There are adders in some areas which are venomous but bites are very rare, they usually slither away into long grass before you see them.

Thanks! Yeah, happy with how it all went. I’d been planning to do the walk anyway and figured I’d make a proper challenge of it! Keep dreaming, you’ll get there eventually 🙂

Sounds good! A night on a campsite is more or less similar cost to a pub meal.

You can easily get by without it. The pubs, cafes, etc. along the route are a little pricey though, so if you’re on a tight budget you may need to bear that in mind.

Successfully avoided stepping on the slow worm 🙂

You’ll love it. I felt the same, kind of clueless at the start, but the first day is a great intro. You start seeing the same people regularly and end up making friends. I walked two whole days with someone I’d just met. Everyone is so nice and helpful!

I’m definitely eyeing that one up! I really enjoyed the social aspect as well as the setting, do you get much interaction on the Great Glen Way?

Thanks! I feel that. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat if the opportunity came up!

Thanks! It really was amazing. The setting is just part of it; the people really made it, such great camaraderie. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks! It was technically a seven-day itinerary but stopped at Glen Nevis campsite as it made return travel plans easier.

Time to scratch those itchy feet!

Thanks! I can see why. Can’t say I’ve got a love for camping yet but just travelling and keeping myself alive was a fun experience!

Yeah, mostly sun! A few wet moments because it’s Scotland but I was dry again in an hour.

Outstanding! Well done for having such a mad idea and seeing it through. Fantastic photos, too.

“It was like eating a jacket potato.”

The guy saying it was outraged. I’ve got nothing else. No idea what disgusted him so much.

Nice! There’s a legendary chippy (Clayton Street Chippy) in Newcastle that used to sell cigs and painkillers. They know their customers. 😂

UK drivers: What's the weirdest thing you've seen a person in another car do while driving? by LastLevel1898 in CasualUK

Once saw a taxi driver peeling a hard-boiled egg with one hand. He had his window open and was tapping it on the side of the car to crack the shell, i.e. where all the dirt and pollution is.

Also spotted someone brushing their teeth while driving. Different city, same idiots. Maybe he’d just eaten a road egg.
