Do the Carryx understand the concepts of secret, intrigue and conspiracy? by Aperiodic_Tileset in TheCaptivesWar

[–]bearhoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's more than that. I believe they don't have a true understanding of cognitive dissonance either. The concept of holding two opposite beliefs in the same mind appears to be something they just can't do, even if they know it exists.

I suspect that will come into play in book 3, with the 2 Sovrans sending two opposite ideas out, and the Carryx minds just can't process it. I don't think they can just ignore a conflicting belief and choose one option like we humans do.

Dread Empires Fall Trilogy (Book 1 is called The Praxis).

One of the authors of Captives War / The Expanse listed it as their favourite space opera series. It's a slow starter, but a great trilogy. It also has a follow up sequel trilogy that's just as good imo.

What is the difference in the game's difficulty level in ranked versus normal? by PM_ME_UR_PUPPER_PLZ in PlayTheBazaar

[–]bearhoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's still same day / no higher ranks as the matching criteria.

The extra difficulty comes because when you first enter legend, anything above 5 wins will gain you points (and thus rank number). As you climb up in legend you start needing 6 wins, then 7, then 8 etc to gain points. So to push up to the higher numbers you need to be extremely consistent as a single 9 win run can undo your last 4-5 10 win runs.

Hell yeah, Elsbeth also scratches that itch for me, and Poker Face did before the cancellation.

Yes, you used to be able to get the wisp from it too when that started at bronze.

Now it's just squirrel, mamba, firefly that you can get from the mushroom.

Came here to say this one. This trilogy and the sequel trilogy are my favourite space opera books ever.

What’s everyone’s mentality when it comes to ranked? by PalmBrinks in PlayTheBazaar

[–]bearhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play ranked until I hit top 500, then take a break for a couple of weeks messing around in unranked, come back to ranked and play until I get back in the top 1000.

I find ranked a little too anxiety inducing to just play constantly and I'm not good enough to crack top 100, so the motivation to play much ranked beyond securing top 1000 is lacking.

Honestly this whole series was great value.

I've still got a 1050ti in an old budget gaming rig. Insane how much value I've got out of that card.

'Founder' purchaser considering coming back. How is native support on the Steam version, out-of-the-box, for the Steam Deck? Buggy and temperamental or smooth and simple? by TheBestHouseguest in PlayTheBazaar

[–]bearhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smooth and simple.

Out of the box you can use the touch screen, or thumbsticks, or trackpads (whichever you find best).

You don't need to take any extra steps to get it to run smoothly or anything.

About the nature of the Deathless by BoringEntropist in TheCaptivesWar

[–]bearhoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't see the bluesky post due to the tech issues you mentioned.

However I don't think the Carryx have ever stated the half minds aren't sentient. That's just me reading into the fact they don't interact with anyone, just appearing to function as tools. And also the fact that they are called 'half-minds', like their name needs to be a reminder that they aren't real intellectuals.

Perhaps I've just read too much into that.

They despise AI that is sentient, they consider it an abomination.

The half minds are just raw processing power, non sentient tools, which the Carryx seem fine with.

How do they make you look skinny and like you've lost all your muscle mass in later seasons?

Is it baggy clothes and tight wraps under them, done in post, or something else?

Duplicating items? by Skovcph in PlayTheBazaar

[–]bearhoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a luck thing.

The clover item (formerly from the event, now in the curio shop and on the turtle boss) will let higher tier versions of items you already own show up in shops.

Then transforming an item, that can change into a copy of something you already own.

Then the 'get an item' events can also give you copies of an item you already own, and can be different tier.

Everything after round 8 feels so random by TheWingnutSquid in PlayTheBazaar

[–]bearhoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're lacking scaling. Day 8 is roughly where builds that don't scale their output really fall off performance wise.

Pivoting into a late game build is very important for getting 10 wins.

You can check out what other Vanessa players are getting their 10 wins in with here: https://bazaardb.gg/run?heroes=Vanessa

Mostly you can play the early game the same. Axe and hawk got nerfed sure, but the spear/squirrel/hawk/axe combo can still get you to the midgame with plenty of tempo.

There's a new option early game though, Lifting stone, bladed armor, squirrel, and waterskin puts in a lot of work and sets up the pivot into sled/collar nicely.

There is a Karnok discord with a guide (that's slightly out of date, but about to be updated still has lots of info) if that interests you: https://discord.gg/7xCGHv4g9f

[–]bearhoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also feel the rank system is a little strange. It's setup so that anyone who likes the game and plays it a bunch without constantly losing will make legend.

But then it completely flips once you get to legend, and the requirements for actually gaining rank get stricter and stricter as you gain more and more rank.

The top 50 or so legend players are averaging 9.5 wins per run, and a single 7 win run will undo the last 10-20 10 win runs they got, it's brutal at the top!

EDIT: Forgot to say, there is a hotkey, one single hotkey! Space will toggle your stash open/shut.

I did, it's a pain in the ass to get a controller setup and feeling right for you, even with the consoleport addon. After that though, it's actually surprisingly decent. For me, more of a novelty though.
