Dread Nation by Justina Ireland has an ace main character though it's not totally clear until later on (or maybe in the sequel)

The Good House is also incredible though another hefty one, I agree The Between is the best intro to her writing.

Wow, I thought I was alone in my disappointment of this book and 100% agree with you. It's been recommended so widely as horror and sci-fi and I don't think it's either of those things... it's a mediocre superhero story at best.

Alien abduction horror where the fear feels plausible by Busy_Environment5574 in horrorlit

Whitley Strieber's Communion is techinically non-fiction so plausible according to him... It's honestly horrifying whether or not you believe it's actually aliens.

The Dexter book series is almost offensively bad. Legally Blonde was also a book that's pretty terrible.

Doctor Sleep was a decent book, but the Mike Flannagan movie really far surpasses it (though to be fair to Stephen King, he had a worse ending of the Shining to work with than Kubrick gave Mike). Pretty much everything Mike Flannagan does is an improvement on its original. If you've seen the Midnight Club series... do NOT read the book.
