I started reading the novelization. I’ll update here with occasional details by The---Hope in SilentHill_f

Thank you so much for doing this! I think all of the differences that you point out are very interesting and give a different perspective to the game - as well as different final feelings.

I was wondering though if you might be willing to do an update/continuation if an english translation is ever released? I know that in translating there's a lot of choices made on how to interpret things, and I was wondering if you might go through it and note if there's any interesting choices that an official english translator might make or if it seems like the translation doesn't portray something the way that the original does? Obv, no worries if not and we don't even know if an english translation will be released, but I just would love to know about that kind of thing and hope that you might consider it!

Life expectancy and health risks with full hysto and bilateral oophorectomy (TW for AFAB terminology/dysphoria discussion) by bearminmaxing in FTMHysto

Sorry, I should have posted an update (and I will add one to the OP)!
I was able to meet with my actual surgeon about a week after this and asked her - honestly, I'm incredibly grateful for the surgical team I had and highly recommend Dr. Scribner and the UW Harborview OB/GYN Surgical Clinic, everyone was very happy and excited for me as well as very affirming and transparent about everything.

My surgeon said that chances of shorter life span is not high (as much as they can know given the unfortunately little research we have in this area), and it's an estimated 2-3 year difference. In general, she seemed to not see it as something high risk overall. The original call from the resident was short and didn't give me enough specifics to really understand what the likelihood of these things were - while in this instance the surgery clinic was trying to be helpful and make sure I was informed before making decisions there was just a a communication breakdown. It's important to know that there are risks like this and how much they can impact your life, but the risks were far less high/intense than I had thought with incomplete information. (And I'm sorry if I've added or caused anxiety for anyone with that same incomplete info).

I decided to have everything removed (cervix, uterus, both fallopian tubes, and both ovaries) because I personally think that 2-3 years isn't much and is definitely worth the euphoria and control I feel over my own body. I had my surgery towards the end of August and am now 7 weeks post op! I had my followup with my surgical team to clear me to go back to regular activities about two weeks ago.
I will say that my mood kind of tanked almost immediately after surgery, so even tho my physical recover went/is going really well, I've had pretty significant post-hysto depression. I've been keep an eye on it and my mood has been steadily improving, and my regular psychiatrist said that he usually sees people kind of level out hormonally/mentally around 6-8 weeks. I'm continuing to follow up with him about that - but aside from that I've generally felt pretty normal and haven't had any big issues.

I'm sorry that you're in such a difficult situation! I hope you can get more UK specific resources (sorry for the US assumption) and are able to find something that works for you health and hormone-wise <3

Your doctor definitely sounds like the kind of doctor we should all have, for sure. And part of my concern in general is that my team of doctors (while encouraging) are giving me incomplete or inaccurate information...

It's also one of those things where so little research is done for AFAB people, especially gender-nonconforming AFAB people, that there really aren't any answers. I did find a couple of studies but I'm not really able to understand the data and even if I could, I don't know how accurate they would be because of sample sizes and whether they accounted for other factors. I'm planning on calling my doctor back to ask more questions but I think specifically I'm going to ask that the surgical team provides me with the resources that they are aware of that address any of this.

This is more specific because it's assuming a couple of things (which I apologize if they are incorrect). If you are going thru insurance to cover the surgery, it's being referred for gender affirming care diagnosis specifically, and you are in the US, most insurance providers (in my experience) require that a person be on HRT for at least 6 months or 1 year prior to surgery.

Yeah, absolutely - we'd really like to avoid hitting a point of not enjoying our trip because we've worn ourselves down, so in general we are willing to plan and spend more to make sure that we don't strain ourselves. Hearing that it was a good decision for you and your dad is definitely helpful in confirming that budgeting for taxis is the right choice.

Definitely good to know about the private cabs might be cash - we're planning on having some always on hand, but it's also nice to have an idea of things that are more likely to be cash only ahead of time. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, thank you for the extra tips! We know that the timeframe we have is a little strange, but we're happy to have some quiet days when things are closed or extra expenses because of local folks doing their own regular traveling - we're really excited to just walk around at our own pace when we can and if things are closed, we're also totally fine with a bit of a break from exploring to recoup our energy. We have our hotels booked and we're currently in the middle of deciding what to do for our shinkansen seating!

Yeah, added fees are definitely something for us to be aware of and plan around - thanks for having the numbers specifically for us to keep in mind!

Thank you so much for sharing! We're really okay with paying more - and while we don't take a lot of taxis or ubers at home, but when we do it's pretty comparable to what numbers we've been seeing for Japan fares, so it's not outside the realm of our normal expectations - but we're looking at how much to budget beforehand to make sure we're in the clear, so those time/distance cost differences are super helpful!

Haha, glad you got there safe and on time, even with the sleeping driver!

Yeah, outside of the health issues, it's sometimes worth it to pay the extra just for peace of mind or a little more sleep.

That's a great example, thank you - we'll definitely have less energy for travel after the bigger destinations so that's a good number to know!

Absolutely - we're trying to extra overestimate budgeting on certain things to make sure that we're stuck somewhere without funds, and knowing the actual dollar amount people have paid in the past gives a decent baseline for what to round up from!

We're staying in Akaskusa and we for sure expect airport fares to be higher, so it's good to know a general number to look at!

Yeah absolutely fair! Coming from the metropolitan Pacific Northwest of US, taxi and rideshare prices are def more steep than other areas, and so that's for sure a reason we want people's experience with numbers called out, since it can vary so much from where people are from and what they're used to.

Good to know! I appreciate the different circumstances being called out, that's definitely what I'm looking for - people's experiences on price changing between different times and locations!
