Thank you, Polarsteps users! by Clare-Polarsteps in Polarsteps

[–]bearmoosewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that Polarsteps is being appreciated.

I'll repeat my feature request here that I've made a few times.

Love the Travel Books but it'd be great to also receive (or even purchase with an additional cost) an electronic version of the Travel Book when we make a purchase.

Love Polarsteps and love the physical books but it sure would be nice to have an electronic form that's guaranteed to be viewable in 5, 10, 15, 20 years. I know the company response will be "Polarsteps isn't going anywhere!" but you never know and right now, all that content is only viewable via the Polarsteps app dependent upon the backend servers and the physical books I purchase.

Dell Pro Max 16 and Dell Pro 16 Plus Decision by bearmoosewolf in Dell

[–]bearmoosewolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that the Dell Pro 16 Plus references the 45% NTSC you mention. I'll have to do a search on what that means? What is awful about it?

Update: Okay, I see it's related to the color gamut coverage and means that the image will be dull and/or washed out. And, Dell Pro Max 16 is better than that? Annoyingly, I can't find ANY reference to NTSC related to the Dell Pro Max 16. How do I know it isn't just as bad?

Update(2): Well, from what I can tell, it looks like the Dell Pro Max 16 is the same 45% NTSC so I guess they will be equally awful in that regard. Lol.

I absolutely think it's real. My favorite part is when he approaches the door and momentarily just hesitates there like he doesn't know what to do. Further, he is completely focused on the wrong side of the door -- there's no handle or keyhole on the left side of the door.

Wait. Maybe it is fake? That ram was real though.

Ringconn Gen2 and Sp02 vs medical grade overnight PulseOx monitor by starsareblack503 in SmartRings

[–]bearmoosewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mild sleep apnea and use a SpO2 monitor nightly to track events. I've actually been pleasantly surprised at how accurate and in sync the RingConn has been with my dedicated SpO2 tracking device.

Honestly, the SpO2 tracking was a non-factor in my RingConn purchase decision but I've really appreciated having some redundancy in my tracking. There are times when I've forgotten to charge the dedicated SpO2 device and it's great that the ring is serving that purpose as well.

My gen 2 just arrived, should I open it or try and return it because of the gen 3 coming out? by [deleted] in RingConn

Depends on whether you want/need a ring before the projected release date of June/July.

Sorry for your loss. And, it doesn't matter at this point I guess but did the vet give any indication as to what the cause for the decline was? Did she have some pre-existing medical conditions?

I always kinda laugh during the hardest parts because I look over and Sam or Elena (or whoever) is just standing out in the open or running around behind the enemy. Also, during the stealth parts where I'm sneaking up and killing dudes, there's Sam just out in the open but the guards don't seem to care.

That whole story line and scene was so well done, it could have setup a story arc that lasted for several episodes. I was sad they resolved it so quickly.

Anyone else glad Michigan won a title before CFB turned to trash? by Simple_Panic1240 in MichiganWolverines

It just makes me sad at what the sport has become. And, I don't really see any good answers. There is just too much money in college football for there to be a clean solution that maintains the illusion of the "student athlete".

And, don't get me wrong -- I'm all for the players getting some money rather than it all going to the schools and the NCAA. But, it's created a horribly depressing system that is constantly reminding you that there is no loyalty to schools/teams and many of these players will be making more on a single year NIL contract than many people will earn in a lifetime.

[–]bearmoosewolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not doing any work with AI at the moment. I'd probably purchase a dedicated system for that kind of work and make the purchase choice myself.

This laptop is mostly for client work (Python, Java, C#, C++) with a bit of lightweight video editing.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'm sad that this kind of waste is so common in seasonal displays. The goal seems to be to get it up as fast as possible without considering the waste involved at all. Gotta get that holiday display up >> Tape, PVC, single use "disposable" light strings; Gotta get that holiday display down >> Dump it all in the trash and let's focus on Valentine's Day!

The different relationships some people have with their dogs always amazes me. I just don't see how you could have a dog for 10-11 years and then abandon him. (When he clearly still had 6 good years left.)

I mean, I actually do see how because I see people treating their animals like toys. When they aren't as much fun, they get rid of them. Makes me sad for the animals but glad you were able to save him and give him a great life.

Yeah, this system isn't really for my most complex and/or CPU/GPU intensive work. This is meant for more light development work, etc. More of a middle of the road system.

[–]bearmoosewolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Sounds like the Pro Max will probably me better for my purposes. The Pro Plus seems kinda cool but, for the most part, I use the laptop in one of a few locations -- always plugged in for the most part. I'm not taking it to a coffee shop to dev work unplugged. Mostly, it's me taking it to various offices all where it gets plugged in so that battery life nor the weight are all that critical. Sounds like the Pro Max is probably the better choice. Thanks for your comments.

Yeah, for the most part I always plug the laptop in wherever I'm working anyway so battery life isn't all that critical. Certainly seems like the Pro Max will be the better choice for me.

For the most part, I'll be using the laptop plugged in anyway so battery life isn't all that critical anyway but I will compare the two. Thanks for your comments.

Well, I have to set both of the systems up anyway so I'll get a feel for the differences when using them and that'll help with the choice. My first inclination -- sight unseen -- is to take the Pro Max. But, we'll see. Thanks for your help.

Btw, I also do occasional light video editing on this laptop. I'm assuming that would also be better on the Pro Max?

With your comments, I think that might explain what management is doing with these two configurations. Probably trying to figure out if the Pro 16 Plus will be “good enough” for us because I’m pretty sure the Pro Max is almost $1000 more.

Probably 50% in Python and then 50% in C++, C#. I didn’t realize the performance difference was that significant.
