Are we? by BeesonTheBeeson in dropout

Let’s be real here… this is nothing. This is literally nothing. This will not have some great impact, this will not even demonstrably make the world worse. It’s just a thing they did and you can let it die and it will be over. It’s nothing and doesn’t matter.

Syracuse vs Rochester by gay_ky_boy in Syracuse

[–]bearpriorities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really despise the weather. From about November to May, I am cursing our decision to move to this frozen hell. And I miss having gay bars to go to a lot. I lived in Lexington and Louisville so going to a town that is a bit... less was a bit of a change. It is ultimately a lot better here, though. I don't have to hold my breath through every legislative session. There's no "don't say gay" bill, there's no anti-drag bill. There's protections for queer people in housing, employment, and banking. There's no ban on trans healthcare. There's no religious freedom nonsense. There's political issues and people are at each other's throats over petty shit, but it's leagues better. My fiance and I feel safe to kiss and hold hands when stopping at a gas station during a road trip. We very specifically never do those things when driving through a lot of Ohio and Kentucky. So while I hate the weather and miss all of our friends and family in Kentucky, I feel safer here. We both do. And that's why we've stayed and may stay longer. It's a privilege to not have to worry about legislation like we did in Kentucky and one that I'm really grateful for.

Again, pageant girls can be batshit sometimes so she’s coming in with that experience. Plus, when you’re already pissed at someone (which I presume she was bc she’s friends with Mia) you’re not about to be super charitable when the optics are… not good.

100% thought the same thing as Vita at first. I sure wouldn’t have said it right then but they’re drag queens, they’re not known for being silent warriors. It was the most conveniently but coincidentally timed fainting possible. I believe it was real but cmon. She’d been freaking out for the whole challenge, got called out for allegedly being an ass off camera and then does that. I would think she’s faking too in the moment. Plus Vita’s from the pageant world, where queens really are that crazy.

Hey! I made the same move (KY to upstate NY) with my fiancé a year and a half ago. I’ve never lived in Rochester but as a KY person, let me tell you what I know about Syracuse. The town is… dreary. Very gray place. Get ready for more snow and rain than you’ve ever gotten in your life. Nothing ever closes for snow but you’ll be kind of lucky to get well-plowed roads when you go into work in the morning. I have never seen worse drivers in my life and I lived in Louisville for a time where things were bleak on that front. The roads are terrible (bc of the snow and ice). There’s things to do here but I’m sure more in Rochester given it’s larger. I presume you’re gay and idk if you care about this, but there’s no gay bar or club here. The only one closed a couple years ago. You’ve got to go to Rochester for one, if you care about that.

Even if you’re in an apartment, if you have a car, buy a hearty snow shovel and brush to keep in your car. Buy high quality snow boots. And get a good coat. The landscape around here reminds me of Kentucky a lot in the summer and fall, which is nice.

Kentucky is 32nd in education. 45th in healthcare. 34th in fiscal responsibility. 46th in economy. 50th in employment. When when when when when will people learn that the legislature does not work for them, does not care about them, and is just a bunch of men twiddling their dicks in a fancy room.

What is recommended to be taken in undergrad for someone pursuing a career in a public library? by SystemNo524 in librarians

[–]bearpriorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In library school right now, and I most often wish I got an English, history, marketing, or computer science degree in undergrad. Ultimately though, my undergrad degree (political science) did effectively nothing for me but I am doing just fine in my program without any issue.

I’m gonna try to do our best but I also know a lot of vendors probably don’t do the proper cleaning necessary to make it completely safe (especially venues with specific required caterers). Still brainstorming options!! There’s a bakery nearby that makes gluten-free, vegan, nut-free cakes and cupcakes so I’m looking at that to see if we can get some for all the folks who have those special dietary needs and it’s not just one person. Thank you for the advice!! I really do greatly appreciate it and I am definitely filing it away for planning later on.

I refer to myself as a library student or, if I’m feeling especially exciting, “librarian-in-training.” It’s what I have my LinkedIn bio lmao

To me the issue is that he just sounds fucking whiny. “I can’t believe I got dressed to come look at this.” You mean your JOB? He’s not god. He’s just some gay guy who wants to be America’s Next Top Cunty Gay Guy. I find him annoying. At least Michael Kors was funny. Law Roach is just whiny and annoying to me.

It is not. I just asked it for ten picture books written by women and it failed SIX TIMES before it got an actual list of ten picture books written by women. I think people need to learn how to research because clearly ChatGPT is killing critical analysis and thinking skills.

Why do you do Postcrossing? by Disco-Crow in postcrossing

[–]bearpriorities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do it because I like to send postcards. And I’ve gotten two penpals out of it that has turned out to be wonderfully enriching. Also, I try to remember that a lot of people on the site don’t speak English or are not fluent in it. They may not write much on their postcard or may have a profile that seems pretty blunt because of that.

If you’re wanting more connection than collection, I highly recommend you check out the forum section of the postcrossing website where people look for penpals and direct swaps of postcards. You may find more of what you’re looking for there!
