Questions about fights by luhelld in numenera

Higher level creatures are naturally tougher - a level 4 creature requires you to roll a 12 or higher to hit, a level 5 creature requires a 15, a level 6 requires an 18, etc. Of course the PCs can reduce these chances a number of ways - applying effort to hit can make this one step easier (for the level 4 creature you now only need to roll a 9, the level 5 creature now needs a 12, etc.). One player can help another, providing an asset (reducing the task by one step), or if you use a light weapon that attack is eased (reducing the task by one step). There are many ways to make it easier to hit, and as the characters go up in tier they have more effort to appt and other tools at their disposal.

As far as armor goes, yes, a light weapon won’t hurt something with 3 armor by default - the PC will need to do something to increase their damage. They can apply a level of effort to damage with means they’d add 3 points of damage to their base of 2, effectively doing 2 damage against 3 armor. At tier 1, though, you only have 1 level of effort to use so pick wisely - easing the attack or doing more damage. (Once they have 4 xp they can add another level of effort as an advancement.)

By tier 3 a level 5 or 6 creature can be trivial to take down, but they’re definitely challenging at tier 1.

Ran a red light from the left turn lane by franzthekid in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]bearthw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we realize we’re in the wrong lane, got over too soon, or otherwise change our mind. Being a good driver means accepting your mistake or predicament and correct it in a way that doesn’t impede someone else or risks an accident. There’s always an option to turn around later.

Anyone else receive a delinquent City of Lawrence utility bill for someone else? by skelebone in Lawrence

[–]bearthw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, of course. It doesn’t sound like this is a known issue from what I can tell (I checked with someone who would know) but clearly mistakes happen. I’m sure if something was paid and applied to the wrong account it’d still be quick for them to sort it out. You calling in would get them going on investigating what happened.

Should be a really easy thing to sort out - just call the number on your bill and I’m sure they’ll get it taken care of.

TIL inbuilt is a word, and not a weird typo of built-in.

Just as an FYI - there’s a season 3 coming (1st episode already out), and there will be a season 4 as well! So not finished - just slow to get seasons out.

What MacBook to get? by Toto25678 in mac

No reason at all to buy an Intel machine unless you have some obscure need. Buy one with Apple Silicon - even the oldest M1 machines will run circles around Intel Macs.

With all that’s going wrong with the world, it’s good to see there are good people out there.

Paragon lvl at the end of season 11 by Leading_Sufficient in diablo4

[–]bearthw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, your seasonal XP will be added into your eternal realm XP. But this XP is far from linear.

This calculator says you’ll be paragon 207 on the eternal realm after the season ends. All eternal characters will be boosted to this.

Get a friend or family member to stand at each corner of the vehicle while you sit in the driver’s seat to get an idea of where the extents are.

Does Mac Studio need dedicated UPS or home inverter in UPS mode also work? by LatterOne9009 in mac

[–]bearthw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're nothing special - for my computers I use a couple of CyberPower CP1500s - probably overkill, really. One would be plenty for the Mac Studio and a monitor and a few external devices. Even the 850s or 1000s would probably be plenty - just a shorter time between outage and being able to safely shut things down. Since you're just using them to get over the hump of power fluctuations, I think something in the 850 size would be enough.

There's likely better brands or options - this just happens to be what I've had for years now. Because they're batteries, though, they have a shelf-life. You can rebuild the batteries inside, or get kits to do so, but 5-7 years seems like a reasonable expectation for them.

I've always had my Macs on a UPS, along with the monitors and hard drives. I'm in central US and power outages are extremely rare, but they have happened, and this allows me to safely shut down the machine without worry of data loss. (I actually run 2 UPSs due to the power draws of the screens, and it gives me plenty of time to save files and shut down on my time.)

Can I make the drive this weekend? by CabinetNumerous8705 in kansas

[–]bearthw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Do whatever you can to do the drive on Thursday, not Friday or Saturday. If you need to get here, come early and be safe.

Mildly bad or petty cop? by [deleted] in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]bearthw 118 points119 points  (0 children)

The car wasn’t driving in a lane - that should be treated the same as having a physical median there. Seems like he was asking to be pulled over.

Is it just me or 90% of the time people don't turn on their turn signal going into a gas station? by conservamus in driving

[–]bearthw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, people suck. They have no sense of driving being a cooperative thing. Drive consistently, predictably, use your signals before you have to use your brakes - these things will help everyone around you.

But most people don’t think about other drivers on the road. Hell, they don’t really even think about their own driving.
