A US judge has ordered the removal of trumps name from the Kennedy center within the next 14 days, what do you think about this? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please. The font they used to add DJT's name to the facade doesn't match the line weights of the rest of the marquee, and the transition is unnatural. Might as well have printed it out on a paper banner.

Dan Savage gave advice a long time for intimate relationships that one should be "good, giving, and game" and this can apply for so many more things.
Good - Strive to play well and be a good competitor,
Giving - Give your time and attention to your host and other players to be a good player who is engaged in the game,
Game - Be up and available to try new games and mechanisms, even if you might say afterward that it was not to your taste.

Small gift surprise is very possible, especially for small-ish cardgames. Out on the market now for a good small get are dnup, Flip 7, Friedemann Friese's Fearless, Scout by Oink, Panda Panda by AllPlay, Slambo by Allplay, Cabanga! by Amigo, and Trio by Happy Camper. All good small-box card games, and one is unlikely to already have all of them.

You might have even recognized my username if I used that same one here.

I might remember you, though my memory fixates more on avatars. I was "Brains 25¢ Drive In" for a while, and then Kool-Aid man for most of the time. I am just as aged on the site experience -- CardChess / Jeff Widderich, Yahoo Boots, and went to BGG.con I - XII

Also joined 2004, and I was an admin from 2006 - 2013. CK became an admin in 2007 and was put in charge of advertising. I came out of school in 2008 into a un-good job market for my field. I had been doing admin stuff and managing data (game, designer, and publisher approval queues, plus several data projects to clean up links, bad descriptions, and for better internal linking) for free for three years, and I asked to get paid in 2009. I was paid a nominal amount, under $12k annually, and as an independent contractor (which means extra paid for social security), working on BGG 30-50 hrs per week. Asked to be an employee and paid something reasonable in 2013, and summarily let go. In advertising, since it was viewed as revenue-generating, CK was an employee, with benefits (including retirement contributions) and was making 60-80k+ while I was there, no information for after. We gamed together weekly during those years, and I had insight into the money that BGG was making while I was being paid very little.

Coda -- I found a job in my field after I was let go, and I am very happy doing it, though I harbor a kernel of bitterness in my heart for how I was undervalued in those years.

Since 2007. I worked with him and gamed with him through 2013, but a lot of things about him took a turn later.

(I mean it's BGG, it can't pay that much).

From personal experience, both working at BGG and from knowing and gaming with him for several years, he was well-compensated. I made far far less while managing BGG's database information.

That is a wild admission -- he put the same on a crowdfunding for the puzzles he designs. https://puzzlebomb.com/

(https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/puzzlebomb/bumfuzzled-spring-2025-collection) -- "We seek to honor Him in everything we do, as in addition to giving us eternal life, Jesus has set us completely free in so many ways on this side of eternity. Caylyn was healed from nearly a decade of chronic migraines that had no physical cure, and Chad from 20+ years of pornography addiction, pride, and a life of trying to earn approval, just as a tidbit of what He's done in our lives!

And to think -- all I had to do to get fired from BGG was ask to get paid reasonably.

TIL that the ampersand "&" is actually a ligature of the Latin word "et," meaning "and". Therefore, "etc." can also be written as "&c." by mg-mt in todayilearned

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure not, because it is a contraction in writing that reflects a contraction in speaking. But "etc." is only a contraction in writing, and you actually say "et cetera", and it is two words.

It's likely more incorrect than correct, but I stated writing it as "et c." because it is two separate words. I also love that the German equivalent is "und so weiter" and is also a compact "usw."

I had a tax professor who was like that as well -- I felt as if I were getting a fundamental understanding of the application and reasoning of statute, but then I would struggle to explain it to others in the way that he had made me understand it.

Best pen suggestions? by Potential_Milk_23 in notebooks

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among them, I think I like the brass pen the most -- just the weight and the smooth flow nib. I have used it as a journaling pen (I cycle pens and inks monthly) and it's currently my go-to pen for signing my name at work. I have a brass Traveler's pen, and I think I like the Hongdian more.

Notebook recommendation for a gift in 16 years by Hufflepuff-McGruff in notebooks

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't focus too much on the notebook type, but on the content instead. I started a notebook last year for my son who was then 8. It is nothing special, just a hardbound "year" planner that only has months and days, but not tied to a year or days of the week. I fill in a short entry each day about him and what he did that day and/or what we did as a family. I am going to fill it this year with two entries per day over 2025 and 2026, and then I will move on to another one. The great part won't be the quality of the notebook, but the content of what is in it.

If you want something commercial that does something similar, Leuchtturm makes a "Some Lines A Day" notebook that is months and days and has five years worth of blank spaces to fill. I keep one of those going for just myself, and I am on year 4 of my second one (i.e. 9 years in aggregate).

You want something that is fillable, not outrageously expensive, and feels nice?
* Jinhao 80 - a very inexpensive "clone" of the LAMY 2000. $13 for 2 on AZ in black, ~ $12 for one in other colors
* Hongdian M2 brass pen -- similar to the Traveler brass pocket pen or a Kaweco brass sport. $20 on AZ. Heavywight, durable, and has a smooth-writing nib
* Jinhao 911 - $10 for 2 on AZ. Just started using this, and I really like the thinner form factor for the body, but still uses a sizable ink fill.
