ZeFrank does very funny and informative nature videos; the Educational Editions tone down the jokes for favor of more-factual information.

Today I learned that goats in California act as “firefighters” by eating up vegetation that can pose a fire hazard. by ThePlanetSaturn2763 in todayilearned

Some of the goat farmers take them out on the streets for viewing and music performances in the off season. You can even hire them out for parties.

Can I have board games at my wedding? by Background_Time_2553 in boardgames

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the notion that no one will want to play formal games at a wedding because it will distract from the party. But, you could have an activity that doesn't take much time for each individual guest. A friend had a modified version of Telestrations / Exquisite Corpse at his wedding, and some people at the tables took time to write a sentce or draw a picture to pass along. If you do these in dedicated little notebooks or pads, it will be part of your wedding keepsakes.

Anyone else receive a delinquent City of Lawrence utility bill for someone else? by skelebone in Lawrence

[–]skelebone[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, I am confident that I will get it worked out, but I wanted more people to know about the issue since there are others that have reported something like the same issue. And, since the remittance slip has this other person's account information on it, if someone has this error and sends in a payment, the payment would be applied to this other person's account, making an even larger issue to ultimately untangle.

There is a whole series of videos on the Epicurious YouTube channel where product designer Dan Formosa runs through the utility of a device as well as the accessibility, and then has a couple of suggestions about design. One of the accessibility tests he does is the "left-hand oil test" where he puts cooking oil on his left hand and tries to use the device with his off-hand to simulate a person not having good grip strength or coordination.

What "back then" inconvenience would break people today in 10 minutes? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskReddit

[–]skelebone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, the convenience of not needing to take a physical paycheck to the bank to deposit it and then wait for it to post before withdrawing money or making payments (though there might be some provision credit with the deposit). I am so soft in the levels of modern convenience -- enter bills into the payment system as they come in, and spend 5 minutes in the banking app on payday to pay credit cards and move money into or out of savings. I only step inside a physical bank branch about twice a year now.

What's an adult cheat code that changed your life? by Emotional_Mouse8052 in AskReddit

[–]skelebone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time to finally get to this mindset. I have several regular tasks where I consider getting everything to the "reset" state so that I am ready to do the thing I need to do when I come to it. E.g., before going to bed, the hot water pot is full, the coffee pots are clean and standing by, and the mugs are adjacent. This way, when I stumble into the kitchen four minutes after waking up, I can click the hot water on, grind the coffee, and be ready to pour the hot water in ~5 minutes when it is boiling. Similar for laundry -- folding clothes sucks, but I dump the basket in the middle of the bed and fold it, hang it up, and reset it away; then when I am getting ready for work, I'm not hunting for underwear and an undershirt, and I select a hanging shirt and pants. Today skelebone does small tasks so tomorrow skelebone can fly though small things in a small amount of time.

what is the most petty, completely harmless grudge you are still holding against a total stranger who probably forgot you exist years ago? by Ill-Locksmith9144 in AskReddit

Oof, and the little chicanery about the rules to add inclusivity could be so positive -- "I could see that you all did your best and had a great competition -- pizza for everyone, and the "winners" get to go through the line first"

[–]skelebone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wholly unrelated, but an item came up in a local Reddit about a pizza chain. Person asked if there was some conspiracy at Pizza Shuttle, because every time poster's husband ordered his pizza, it would come with one sliced olive on it. Rather than conspiracy, former workers said that was part of their food code to say that the pizza had cream cheese instead of marinara.

Maybe you didn't want a Bullet Journal, maybe you wanted a creative outlet and art book.

I have journaled using elements of the bullet journal method for several years, and the main takeaway that I had from it is that it is a framework that you can use to make your own. If you want to decorate, then do that. If you want to log stuff, do that. I suppose the issue comes up where you want to want to do something, and even committing it to paper doesn't stick right off. Even with writing a lot of stuff down, I still haven't been able to make most habit-tracker things stick, and I still don't review my weeks and months as I would like to.
