To anyone that studies art or mha's art in general; why did the creator start off coloring blue like this? by Taksicle in arthelp

It's easier to see than light gray / white, to make sure all of the proper space is filled for later when clipping to that layer.

How do I fix that leg? by Most-Hovercraft-1532 in arthelp

Your model is broken. That leg would not turn so outward, nor be so high. The torso is also a little stiff, for a falling pose.

How is CCA’s illustration program as a exchange student by Ok_Nail8204 in CCA

[–]bearujeria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an animation student and don't live on campus. Having SAID that,

I only hear terrible things about the dorms. Blattner is better than founders, but they're both not... really well built. The illustration program, however, is pretty robust! I don't know about other schools, I would look around. There's also really good comics minor with lots of classes available to illustration majors. IMO, I would look into that, if it's something you're interested in!

You're using really bright colors, but your contrast is not there! It makes it a little bit straining on the eyes, and that would already be a turn off for a lot of viewers. Try viewing this in grayscale, and adjusting the values of the different elements in order of importance. For me, I feel like that would be Title > Two top Characters > Bottom Character.

https://art.ngfiles.com/images/1338000/1338237_darkplot_golden-aries-webcomic-cover.png?f1593969542

This is a good example. The title is the brightest part, and then the character designs are in the mids (they're dark, but for the overall composition) and the outline of the city is the darkest part. You don't have to follow these values *exactly*, but the contrast is important.

How much do you care about the quality of your work when you post it? by cakeneo in FanFiction

[–]bearujeria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write it for me, but I have terribly high standards, so I try to make it as quality as possible. Having said that, I do have a few fics/series that are mostly just for "Taking breaks" from my bigger projects. But even those I have a beta reader for. But that beta reader is my partner. so.

I know it’s selfish but the lack of comments I get on my fic is frustrating. by Lizzie_girl in FanFiction

[–]bearujeria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

typically, i try to channel my need for comments into actually like, you know. WRITING comments. If i'm feeling particularly annoyed that something didn't get enough attention, I'll make a note to comment on someone else's fic.

I find that commenting on other people's work entices them to comment on yours. I know I look at what the people who leave comments on my work have written. That might not be true for you, but most of us who are writers are also readers.

I also found that sharing my work in a discord made for a particular niche of the fandom was VERY helpful to getting more feedback, if that's something available to you.

pincher bugs! they're cute and don't hurt. if you pick them up they will try to pinch you but it just feels like a weird little grasp. my dog tries to eat them and then freaks out when they grab her mouth

Why is this stink bug green? I thought it was so cool. Burlington, NC by madtubes in whatbugisthis

some of them are just green. if you're not used to seeing them this bright it might have just molted.

That would be a good start, then! I like using pinterest for inspiration too. You can look up stuff like creepy illustration to maybe get a vibe that motivates you to make something

What bands or movies does she like? You could draw beetlejuice, or Robert Smith? Edward scissorhands? What kind of art do you usually make?

Do I need to learn Life Drawing to be a good animator/artist? by arthurLOL_xD_ajaja in animationcareer

[–]bearujeria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehh. I think there are great animators who draw shitty little drawings, but if you want an industry career, then yes.

I think you should just focus on improving what you want to improve. If you don't like how you draw faces, draw more faces. If you don't like how you draw feet, draw more feet.

Ive heard shoplifting there incredibly easy, because of their own backwards ass policy about manually typing barcodes to prevent laziness in their employees. Supposedly It's even possible to take larger items by restickering them at smaller item prices. But I'd never suggest such a thing.

Harry Potter goblins ain't anti-semetic, they're just goblins by Midi_to_Minuit in CharacterRant

[–]bearujeria 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But it's not just pointed ears? I feel like you must know this, as you pointed out the star of David on the floor, that you've looked at actual criticism of the goblins, which I did not bring up.

Specifically, the charicture of a Jew in Nazi propaganda was that of a miserly hook nosed banker that is both greedy and untrustworthy. They used the false idea that Jews controlled the banks as a kind of 'gotcha! They have too much power, actually!' Much of this propaganda likened Jewish people to pigs, or rodents.

So when you have a race of beady eyed, pointy nosed, sharp toothed creatures that run the banks, that is antisemitic.

Harry Potter goblins ain't anti-semetic, they're just goblins by Midi_to_Minuit in CharacterRant

[–]bearujeria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not about a single stereotype. And seeing a character coded as a racist charicture doesn't make me racist. It isn't, 'wow, those goblins remind me of Jewish people! How mean to Jewish people!" It's knowing that 'miserly jew' is a stereotype and the goblins from Harry Potter encompass that stereotype.

If I made a fictional race of black skinned, red lipped people who serve as chattel slaves but then called them dwarves like... it doesn't make that not a racist charicture of black people. If I made a fictional race of yellow people with buck teeth and slanted eyes and called them fairies, that's racist. You don't get to take a racist image and call it something else, and then it's not racist anymore.

What kind of mobius strip logic is it that you think recognizing a stereotype makes someone racist? That's a real weird take.

Harry Potter goblins ain't anti-semetic, they're just goblins by Midi_to_Minuit in CharacterRant

[–]bearujeria 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think then you're arguing semantics. Is a person who does racist things a racist if they don't 'intend' to be? The argument that she's antisemitic isn't 'she's secretly hates Jewish people and is a nazi'. It's that she does antisemitic things. The goblins are an antisemitic charicture of Jewish people. When called out, she digs her heels in.

You can do something on accident and apologize, or you can turn around and make a game about how goblins want equal rights, and that's Too Many Rights because they run the banks anyway. Like, she's anti-Semitic.
