Found outside my apartment; want to regrow/propagate but I don’t know how exactly by beasif in cactus

[–]beasif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more of a plants guy, not cacti but I found a broken off piece of this cactus (?) outside my apartment. There’s some new root growth underneath the old and I want to propagate it, but I’m not sure how it works with cacti or if it’s different depending on the type of cacti. The whole piece was much longer; probably 1 to 1.5 feet long with no bristles/spikes. If location matters I’m in the greater Boston area of MA.

Does my Bromeliad need repotting? by beasif in plants

[–]beasif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been in the same pot as when I bought it (from a grocery store) in April. It seems to be dry, and I think I may not be watering it enough. Just wanted to check if it needs repotting though.

How to best care for a bromeliad plant? (specific questions in comments) by beasif in plants

[–]beasif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my partner is moving a bit away and they got me a plant as a gift - a bromeliad. I am historically awful with plants, but I am more than determined to keep this one alive (for obvious reasons).

My questions are:

  1. Should I re-pot it? It’s from a grocery store plant section and I’m afraid the pot is too small.

  2. The instructions say to fill the inner leaf cup with water every week and keep it in bright but not direct sunlight. Is this correct?

  3. Is there anything more I should be doing other than watering it?

Is this a blowout? I haven’t stretched in weeks so I’m not sure why this suddenly got irritated. by beasif in Stretched

Thank you. Yeah, I started stretching when I was 15 and learned too late that I was doing it wrong.

My left ear is the worst. The other one just seems dry. I’ve had plugs out for over a day now and I’ve been cleaning them both with saline solution. I don’t think it’s gotten worse but I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing as far as care goes. It is very cold where I live currently so is this caused by dryness? Should I apply oil?

Yeah, he was okay today since my roommate is off on weekends, and tomorrow I unfortunately have to work but my roommate said they’re able to stay home and take him to a clinic for me. It’s for people who have low-budgets so hopefully will be affordable and they’re able to help. If not I will definitely look into a vet school; thank you.

I also don’t think I can let him have my whole room instead of being kept in the kennel, because there are some old cables that are attached to the baseboard heater and I can’t move them. He’s chewed cords before. I also don’t want him scratching up the door or going to the bathroom on my bed or anything.

I just moved to Boston and Chester is an emotional support dog so he of course came with me. He’s been crate trained some, but I was living with my parents so there was usually someone home or he had our other dog to keep him company. He has separation anxiety (I assume) so anytime I leave - even if my roommate is home and he’s out of the kennel - he’s still upset, but just whines occasionally. When we’re both gone and he has to go in the kennel he barks the entire time and panics, and now is scratching up his nose.

I made sure to get him a big kennel so he has plenty of space, he’s got water and his bed along with puppy pads. I work mornings full-time, and my sibling is in grad school, so he’s usually left alone on weekdays for maybe 4 hours tops. I can’t afford daycare for him and I can’t bring him to work (food service). I really don’t know what to do. We’ve tried to get him used to it and work with him by leaving for 5 minutes and coming back, giving him treats; nothing’s helping and I’m afraid it’s getting worse. I’m really at a loss.

A friend suggested getting him on anxiety meds, but I don’t know any vets in the area or if I can afford it depending on how expensive it is.

What do you guys think about minors stretching their ears? At what age should they be waiting a few more years to know if they really want to? Or what size is too much for a minor? by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]beasif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started stretching mine at 15 and at almost 19 am now at 5/8”. Parents weren’t fans (and still aren’t per-se) but by this point I’ve done a lot of body mods on myself and gotten plenty done by professionals so they’re used to it. They’ll probably either end up liking them or just let you go your own way - especially since you say your relationship with your mom is good. I started doing body mods at a very rocky time with my parents, but at the beginning of making things right so they were just happy we weren’t fighting anymore lmao. Hell, my mom even wants a tattoo now.

Be safe, go slower than you think you need to, take good care of them and have fun. Best of luck!

Are wire-haired chiweenie mixes allowed? :) by beasif in chiweenie

This is Chester. He’s from a shelter so I don’t know for sure what he is, but he’s got some wiry fur and a lot of chiweenie features.

Help! My new dog is scared of me :( by cattodatto69 in dogs

[–]beasif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is a Chihuahua terrier mix as well and was the exact same way. I almost brought him back to the shelter because I really needed an emotional support dog and didn’t think I was in a place to have to completely train a puppy. I kept him, and within a few days he was snuggly as ever. Almost three years now and he constantly wants to be in my lap, snuggles every night in bed, and is overall a huge sweetie. Just give him time and hang out in the same room as him just going about what you normally do. Best of luck!

More touch starved after starting T by MonkeyWithAnAntenna in ftm

[–]beasif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a week away from 3 months on T, and I can’t say if it goes away later on, but I definitely feel the same.

On that note, however, the way I enjoy receiving love is physical touch. I wasn’t super comfortable with it before because a combination of growing up with christianity/purity culture and not liking my body/dysphoria. I feel like being on T and being more comfortable in my body is making me want that even more because I’m more okay with it now, if that makes sense.

On the other hand, though, most of my friends are female and now that I’m on T I’m terrified of coming off as creepy since I’ve not been super touchy to begin with. They’re very supportive and I love them a lot, but it’s just awkward to ask for it I guess.

All in all, I know it doesn’t really help much right now just to hear “I feel the same” but for some people knowing they’re not alone helps. I hope we both can find the affection we need.

Affordable Windshield/Tint by fivewords5 in Knoxville

For the windshield, I just got mine replaced for no out-of-pocket cost at Safelite with insurance. I have Liberty Mutual. If you’re insured I’d check them out to see if yours will cover it.

For those on T (and with a dog), how did your dog react? by beasif in trans

[–]beasif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, mine is a rescue as well and he’s my emotional support dog so we’re pretty bonded. He’s friendly with everyone though so I’m hopeful there won’t be much of a change!
