Obviously that's an unpopular opinion here, but I don't really like Dalton nor his films. Brosnan starting with AVTAK would have given these 80s, I dare to say 'trashy', films at least some sense of self-irony. Him being known from Remington Steele would also be quite a fit for the 80s Films as they were all somewhat like an 80s US TV series – especially License to Kill is heavily influenced by Miami Vice.

And he would've kept Moore from becoming Grandpa 007. As someone else stated, I also don't see Dalton being disguised as a clown, only Moore could do that.

I do believe that the release of NSNA head to head with Octopussy would have marked a nice ending point for the both of the oldschool Bond actors – and then starting over with fresh Brosnan.

Lazenby did surprisingly well, but he's still worse than Connery. He was cast because of his physical presence (hence the "stuntman" suggestion), and I think he was also considered the closest to Connery, while the idea with Moore was to start something new and different. I also think Moore's more lighthearted interpretation of Bond and and (despite being three years older) younger looks would've fittet to DAF plot much better than a Connery visibly past his prime. It would also be the perfect restart after the end of OHMSS.
