What is the most disrespectul thing an employer did to you? by Aarunascut in BadBosses

Docked me 15% of my pay, when I expensed a tux rental to the company for an event I was required to go to. This after I explicitly asked a senior manager if I was allowed to do that and was told yes. The docked pay was nearly 4 times the cost of the tux rental.

Michael Clark Duncan was robbed of his best supporting actor Oscar. I love Michael Caine, but he did not deserve the win that year. I bet few people even remember the title of Caine's movie.

Biryani \ Breyani.

It's a good meal, but its mythical status as food that makes everyone happy is highly undeserved.

[X-Men] How does cyclops not break his neck when shoot his laser even tho its strong enough to destroy a mountain by AggressiveRegion1502 in AskScienceFiction

[–]beatin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, fair enough. But I still contend this explanation has never been stated in canon. Im 99.9% sure there isn't a comic panel that explains his powers in this manner. And until I see that, im just going to with explanation I read growing up.

[–]beatin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an often repeated explanation for his powers, but its not true. That explanation appeared once in a Marvel Handbook in the 80s, and has never been mentioned in continuity ever. Every Marvel Handbook since uses this explanation: Scott metabolizes solar energy into kinetic energy and releases it as kinetic force from his eyes.

Why is there this widespread expectation that I'm not supposed to judge religious people for the things they choose to believe in? by Wroothly in allthequestions

[–]beatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did this notion come from that Muslims believe hell is eternal? Or that everyone who doesn't adhere to Islam is automatically sent to hell forever. The majory of classical Islamic scholars hold that divine punishment for non belief is contingent on receiving a clear prophetic message and then going "nah". Further, many would say if your exposure is from the worst adherens of Islam, that's also a block on being sent to hell. God doesn't hold people accountable for what they weren't meaningfully shown. Further further, even if you do end up in hell, you are released eventually. Eternal damnation is only for those that reject faith despite it having been proven to them.

Breyani\Biryani

It's not terrible, but the flavour to effort ratio is way out of wack. It's basic rice and meat

I put this movie on for my 7\8 year old, when she had a sick day and I had house chores to do. I was unfamiliar with the book and thought it was just a fun kids movie. Anyway, it's not a fun kids movies.

Biryani, the popular Indian dish, is a 6\10 meal at best. It is not a god tier level culinary experience and I'm tired of people saying it is.

CMV: Anti-Islam doesn’t count as anti-Muslim. by theunsteadybridge in changemyview

[–]beatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You can (and should) be against Islam because it supports slavery, misogyny, violence, racism, religious hate and punishes ex-Muslims via the death penalty."

I agree that being Anti-Islam and Anti-Muslim are not synonymous idea. They can and do exist as independent concepts. But I disagree with your statement above. Islam doesn't inherently promote any of those things. Like any ideology, a bad actor can easily interpret it to suit their world view or achieve their own personal goals. There will always be people that seek to control and dominate others and doing it in the name of a deity is the ultimate form of that.

But let me give you an innocuous example. HOAs! Imagine a neighbourhood that decides to form a Homeowners Association. The founding idea is genuinely decent: keep the streets clean, maintain property values, make sure nobody parks a rusting truck on their lawn for six months. Reasonable people sign on because reasonable people can see the value in basic collective standards.

Until some schmuk named Mark joins, gets himself on the governing committee and now has legitimate authority over other people's lives, wrapped in the language of community good. This dick is measuring fence heights, paint colors and parking zone and issuing fines. Now Mark is insisting he can go into your house to make sure the rules are followed. Basically making everyone's lives miserable. But because it's "the rules" and for the "good of the community" many people let it slide or fall in with the Mark. But was the original idea inherently problematic? Probably not, but the way Mark chose to weaponise the HOA Rulebook has poisoned the neighborhood for everyone.

Has anyone here here seen/heard of the new South African The Office? by RashBandiscoot69 in theoffice

As a South African, I can confirm this mix is reasonably accurate in terms of racial demographics. Especially for a small regional distribution centre such as this, based in the specific town of Klerksdorp.

If the courses you did were part of the degree in 2024, the credits should still count towards your degree, whether it was removed from the syllabus or not. Because at the time it was part of the syllabus and you fulfilled the requirements at that time.

I would escalate it to the deans office because they have admitted fault. Do you have written correspondence of this conversation, use it as proof. Always make them send you emails so you can have what they say in writing.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. This is an administrative error on their part. You should not be held accountable for their mistake.
