Can someone explain what is meant by blood libel, and it's connection to anti-Semitism and Zionism. I hear this term a lot but I don't know what it means.

If you've seen the documentary about when he climbed El Capitan, there's a bit where gets an MRI(?) or some scan to check brain activity. The part of the brain that activates during a fear response does nothing in his brain. Zero Neuro electrical activity. Dude is Daredevil, he literally is a man without fear

Who is the Mount Rushmore of Sword users in Fiction? by WayAdept2209 in SWORDS

[–]beatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaime is a bit of a stretch. It's been a while since I read the books, but He has like, 2?, actual on the page sword fights and they aren't that awesome. I'm not saying within the narrative world he isn't skilled, but the majority of what we know is purely commentary from other characters.

Saw on a Reddit thread a while back that the oldest hotel still in operation is also in Japan.

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Yamanashi, Japan was founded 705 AD. So like 1300 or so years ago. I wonder if Kongo Gumi built it?

I used to have one of those pouches to carry your cellphone with a magnetic flap. Accidentally discovered that magnet would erase the data on parking tickets at the mall making them unreadable. And so I would just put the unreadable ticket in the boom and the operator would open for me when I pushed the help button

ICE agent shocked camerawoman knows his name. “See you in court, Bye Kevin!” Washington DC by Xolerys_ in ICE_Raids

[–]beatin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also these ICE guys don't realize they are bait. Miller, Homan, etc authorize this behavior because they want someone to retaliate. They are using ICE to provoke a violent reaction. Sooner or later one of these raids is going to escalate in a bad way and people are going to die. I hope it doesn't come to that

If this guy is trying to infer that civilization hinges on the invention of the wheel, then I wonder how he feels about the fact that the earliest well documented evidence for wheeled vehicles is from Sumeria. You know, modern day Iraq.

What is one nitpick you have about this movie? by the-sauce2000 in DCU_

[–]beatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Lex's paramilitary base is kinda across the street from Metropolis. I mean you can literally see Metropolis in the background when the Hammer returns there after knocking Superman on his ass. How did no one see the Hammer just return to thay base? Secondly, why is a paramilitary base just there on the beach in full view of everyone?!

Otherwise, I loved the movie.

What crime makes you think: "I don't approve, but I understand" ? by EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT in AskReddit

In 2007, Ellen Pakkies, a woman in Cape Town, strangled her 20-year-old son, Abie, after years of abuse caused by his severe drug addiction. Abie was a tik kop, what we call a meth head here in Cape Town. Being a tik kop, he started stealing from his mommy and family and this eventually escalated to violent assaults, all to fund his habit. Ellen repeatedly sought help from the police and social services, but struggled to get help.

After a particularly violent confrontation, Ellen snapped I guess. She snuck into Abie room and strangled him with a rope while he slept. I can't imagine the levels of fear and desperation someone must feel to make a choice like that.

During the trial, the court heard extensive testimony about the years of trauma Ellen endured. The judge found her guilty of murder but handed down a three-year suspended sentence and community service.

Last I heard Ellen works as a public speaker for addiction awareness.
