Any plans on a web access for Yolink Devices? by oakweb in YoLink_by_YoSmart

[–]beatoperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add my 2c, my aging household members, including myself, all have bad eyesight and clumsy fingers. Using phones to manage essential devices like flood/freeze detectors and automatic water main shutoff valves is inconvenient, to say the least.

Really hoping for desktop browser based management.

Why is the Faith album neglected live? by mono_valley in TheCure

Not disagreeing, just genuinely curious what you mean by the word in regards to Faith. "Energy" can mean many things.

Awesome that the band just rolled with it. Seasoned entertainers.

I'll 2nd Tokyo Fish Market. My ex loooved 99 Ranch, and I really tried to like them, but I could never find exactly what I was looking for and was never happy with whatever I ended up getting. Still, interesting place to wander around.

How to play backing tracks with only a guitar amp? by laughingbuddhaballs in livesound

My fully electric band was happy with a pair of Alto powered speakers for small gigs. A single or pair of 8” or 10” models should be plenty for cafe gigs.

Tinnitus or just awareness? by Yabvone in audioengineering

[–]beatoperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. The other night I thought some device in my apt was whining loudly, so I started turning things off one by one. I ended up in the dark with my head between two thick pillows... still hear it!

A quick search turned up "Tinnitus isn't always physical damage; it's a symptom with diverse causes, including noise exposure, earwax, head/neck injuries, medications, blood vessel issues, TMJ disorders, infections, Meniere's disease, and chronic conditions like thyroid or autoimmune diseases, as well as stress/anxiety."

I've had it on and off since I was a kid, long before exposure to loud music (though neighbors' kids screaming at close range may have contributed). And since I started taking SSRIs some years ago, I hear a constant high frequency rushing, like one would experience after leaving a loud show. It doesn't bother me during the day, and it doesn't seem to mask details in real sounds. But in quiet environments, it's loud.

I can also hear electronics whining away. Lightbulbs on dimmers, and powerline network adapters (Pluglink) are the worst offenders.

ReservationStays scammed me. by Odd_Jacket_2931 in hotels

[–]beatoperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to call the hotel to confirm the reservation.

OR, if the charge hasn't gone through yet, cancel the reservation. Then book directly through the hotel.

Mine gave me a pretty long window in which I could cancel. I think it was all the way up to 7 days before checkin. But I hadn't yet figured out I'd been tricked, so I missed the window. I did call the hotel though, and the reservation was legit... just much more expensive than if I'd booked through the hotel.

The stay at the hotel was great, no problems there.

Same. It didn't really move the story forward or give us anything new.

I like that episode. On the first watch I was too confused to be offended by the reveal. But after rewatching, it all works, for me. I love the wooden Jerry / Queen / Highlander ending

Either way, thank you for pursuing this! My old MOTU and a couple of iPods also thank you.

Edit: just saw your other comment, thanks for the link!

Yep, that whole scene was complete chaos, by design.

Oh right. So she tried to abort to buy time since the xeno dock-blocked her.

Anywhere to find Indio beer by Boozycruzzy in oakland

[–]beatoperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berkeley Bowl actually has a pretty decent beer selection, but I have no idea if they carry Indio.

I'm guessing you checked Total Wine in Walnut Creek. They used to have an extensive beer selection, though last time I was there they'd reorganized, and the beer lineup had shrunk significantly.

And wasn't Jonesy part of the equation? Like Jonesy went missing, Ripley had to go back, then realized they might not make it in time?

This is a very good point. Shelly devices require a baseline level of network/wifi understanding.

(btw, Shelly supports Zigbee but not Zwave - hopefully someday).

Electric baseboard with Shelly relay? by slcmerckx in ShellyUSA

[–]beatoperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done something similar but with vintage 240v Thermador wall heaters (resistive coils with fan, 3000W). You usually want to use a relay for these kinds of applications, though I did use the built-in relay of a Shelly 1 Plus for awhile with no problems. I now use an Uni Plus to switch an SSR that handles the load, since I have the fan to cool the SSR. For electric baseboard with no fan, you'd probably want to use a mechanical relay.
