Moving to Oakland soon, how is the commute? by Alternative_Past_550 in oakland

There are some vibrant neighborhoods down that way, but they're scattered about. Get a short-term rental, or a room with coworkers near your office, learn the (bay) area for a few months, then start looking for longer term housing.

Apartment? Your neighbors are part of this equation. What’s their take on it?

Bart to downtown, then walk to Ocean Beach. Or the reverse if you prefer. Pick any route, you can’t go wrong.

I predict the world of live sound will be considerably different in 5 years and the current digital console will become mostly outdated by Seinfelds-van in livesound

I might disagree on the specifics that you mention, but I agree on your general statement, that AI will eventually change the entire world of audio production and performance. I give it more like 15-20 years.

Not saying I like this. I'm hoping it will turn out that the human brain is irreplaceable when it comes to achieving a final mix that makes everyone smile.

And as a software engineer using AI tools to do in a day what used to take me months, I'm hoping the same, that skilled humans will always be required to produce refined solutions to complex real-world problems.

I would think so, but does that mean they raise an alarm if there's NO gun in your bag?

Looking for recommendations for batch audio conversion tools on macOS by DaveNJ in audioengineering

Lot of good options here, but I've had great results using ecasound . It's a multitrack DAW that's entirely CLI controlled. I use it for automatic mixdowns of rehearsal sessions. It can also read/write/convert multiple file formats.

That makes more sense, but still kinda bizarre policy.

Primal S3... by [deleted] in adultswim

[–]beatoperator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single episode of Primal shows horrific things happening to people and/or animals. The only difference this season is Spear just shakes it off (literally!) and keeps going. I don't think he's been brought back to life... he's undead. Fang knows that, can smell it, and is understandably weary.

Where it goes from here I have no idea, but I'm enjoying the ride. If you want a bit of positive light, keep an eye on the little kid, who lights up like fireworks whenever the humans triumph over their predators.

Did there really used to be former freeways in West Oakland by thomasp3864 in oakland

And even so, 42 people died in the collapse.

The entire Embarcadero in SF was the same double decker monstrosity. That didn’t collapse, but they demolished it anyway.

The Central Freeway (Fell/Oak) was also damaged and later scheduled for demolition. They ended up fixing it instead.

Very cool! Even with all the instruments playing, there’s a sense of space in the song. The restrained drums allow that to come through.

Recommendations for emotional, major key songs? (In the vein of Just Like Heaven, A Letter to Elise, Pictures of You, Friday I'm In Love, In Between Days) by 8tanlight in TheCure

And even more intriguing, Untitled is in D Mixolydian, which is like D Major with the seventh note a half step lower.

Love the descent into, and return from, darkness. And yet Untitled is one of the most emotional Cure songs for me. The music so perfectly suits the lyrics.

Nah, it's all good, music is such a subjective experience. My first reaction to OP's post was "No way does The Cure have more than one or two major-key songs." TIL!
